    Congratulations Thomas! Taking on the entire seven movement orchestral suite was a Herculean task and wonderfully executed. Thanks You!

      And now I'm taking on a Herculean task myself, composing an orchestral suite, also about the planets. But I'm taking the Astronomy perspective with my suite instead of Astrology/Mythology. So some will be similar in ways, some will be opposite Holst, and I'm including 2 that Holst didn't include in his, Earth and Pluto.

    Really enjoyed this series! Maybe after pictures, can you analyse death and transfiguration? I really like that piece and I'm sure there's a thing or two to learn from it. Keep up the good work!

    Thanks for this! I'm planning on making a cover of this track in my band and this analysis has been perfect to understand it more! I'd also like to say John Williams for sure was inspired by this piece for the approach to Otoh Gunga in The Phantom Menace!

    Note! The "cymbal" strike at rehearsal number VII is in fact to be played on a tam-tam (written as "gong" in the score).

    17:20 From my highschool choral experience (Diocesan Boys' School which won World Choir Games couple of times), stagger breathing is mandatory to keep intonation and texture stable.

    16:56 Would they not stagger-breathe this as a matter of course?

    Should the third trombone be a tenor trombone, or can it be reasonably played on bass trom without offending the purists?

      Usually this is left up to the discretion of the player. Purism is rarely an issue - rather, it's a question of power and the way the bottom octave is scored.

      OrchestrationOnline thanks for the reply. I was thinking about this when the 2nd trombone had the low Bb earlier in the movement. This was an impossible note on the bass G trombones of one hundred years ago. It hit a harmonic gap at C#.

    Was the 2piano version the first one or this orchestral one?

    • @caterscarrots3407
      @caterscarrots3407 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 2 piano version was first and the orchestral one came second.
