I was a little timid doing this procedure but IT WORKS. I am a writer and my palm hitting the touchpad was always screwing things up. So annoying! Of course you'll need to plug in a mouse, but no problem there.
I was playing online piano when I hit these specific keys by accident until now it was not showing my cursor and when I found this vid and tried it it worked thanks TechJunkie
Lol same here i was doing a essay and accidentally did some type of command and the tochpad stop working it happens like 3 months ago and i finally fix it i been using a mouse since but not anymore let's goo🎉

Click on your serch then use your arrows keys and go to settings, if it doesn't work/move press on your tab key then press Enter then navigate with your Tab key click on devices then navigate again with your tab key to the TouchPad then click to off it, if it doesn't work scroll down to the last option ( Reset ) and press on enter. My entire mouse pad does not work at all. I can plug in a mouse and then my mouse icon will appear. I tried search shift p didn't work. Search shift t disabled my touch screen I was able to toggle back on by doing again. Touchpad isn't showing in my device settings either. Any advice??

@@JacobHaddad Nope. I factory reset it and it fixed it for a day and went back to having issues. I have just accepted it as a touch screen or use an external mouse :/
the same thing happened to me as well. and it believe its because either the wiring in the touchpad is messed up or i dropped my chromebook so many times in the past. and my chromebook randomly shut off the other day, and when it turned back on, my cursor wasnt showing and the touchpad wasnt working. even tried doing factor reset but didnt help

You HAVE TO push the shift, search and P button in consecutive order, NOT all at once, as it sounds like they want you to. For success, push the 3 buttons ONE AT A TIME. I now forget which order I did it, but I finally WAS able to disable that dang touchpad. Ahhh. but because no one tells you to touch the 3 keys one at a time? I thought we had to push them all at once. who knew?

for some reason my Chromebook's touchpad setting does not appear in system settings and now my cursor doesn't work.
I just tried this on a Chromebook 315, and it turned off my touch pad just fine. I was wondering why the debug hotkeys weren't turning it off at first. They should just provide an option to deactivate the touch pad in the device settings menu instead of going through these unnecessary steps.
How do I fix my chromebook if the touchpad is enable tap to click? I cant even go to settings anymore since everytime I click nothing happens since its disabled

Will this also work in reactivating it? There's something wrong with mine.
Another approach is to tape a piece of cardboard over the entire touchpad. This should work on any laptop, regardless of make or age.

For the sake of clarity. I just did this on my ACER 516GE Chromebook plus and it works still.

Please one of you tech savvy people help me out ! please reply! we right brained Literature, history, philosopher creative but tech dummy types have value to the world too you know. 0:24 making the switch from windows to Chromebook is not surprisingly easy ! I liked touchpad on older windows laptops . But this one is so big i keep hitting it with my palms & does an unintended by me left or right click or for example goes to another tab or video .I'd trying to use a peripheral mouse but the touch pad is also on and screws things up . tried the search + shift + p and it doesn't turn off off the touch pad on this Lenovo Chromebook which i wish i would have never bought !
when i did this there was two mouse pointers, and i don't know how to take them off. can someone help?

I bought a Chromebook on amazon and I feel like I got scammed.. only because the touchpad didn’t even work when it booted, and I tried resetting it and it still didn’t work.. I followed the rules and instead in the settings of it saying touchpad, it says mouse when I plug in my mouse, it doesn’t say touchpad in device settings.. someone please help me
