Thanks for posting. Retired ground supervisor from ATL. One of the things I miss is in the evening hours during the busy pushes just watching the blinking lights as far as you could see all lining up for their approach in intervals of about 30 seconds. At the same time 50 to 60 aircraft lining up on the parallel taxiways taking off in 30 second intervals. It really is a beautiful sight to watch. It never got old for me. There’s a lot of things I don’t miss in my years at that airport but that is one thing I do.

I totally agree with you, sir. I marvel at the line-up and watch the sky in awe, whenever I am at the red light at GA-279 exit off of I-285. Just stunning!

Agree 100%. And so easy to get to and from using MARTA train, I jump on three blocks from my house and 20 mins later I'm in the terminal. Wish the rest of the city ran anywhere near as well 😆

    I live outside of Atlanta.
I love this video. Shows just how scenic and green Atlanta is. Someone I know made the comment that Atlanta is the largest city built in a forest. This video pretty much completely proves his statement correct.
The scenery is beautiful, the music ia beautiful, calm, and relaxing, and the added info is a great touch.
    Informative and relaxing.
It wasn't until the view of 285 in relation to the runway became clear, that I realized the approach was from the east side of the city. Then, when 27L was shown, it confirmed what I already knew.
    Great video, well done.
    Thanks!

Been living here for more than 40 years, I still don't recognize landmarks, coming in from the West! As for the trees, the forests have been decimated since we arrived in the early '80s, and there are still an awful lot of them. ATL remains one of the best airports on the planet to fly into and out of. Security can get slow and sloppy, but otherwise the the efficiency of going from check in to your gate on any of the 7 concourses, and F International is a good mile from the check in counter, is a breeze. Pity we don't have people movers, but Hartsfield is just a great airport to use.

This was pretty neat to see I-285 & I-75 from the air. I always found it fascinating to watch airplanes flying so low when traveling on those interstates. We traveled to Norway a lot and I remember when Hartsfield became international. Before that, we had to fly to NY, then to Amsterdam and then Norway.

I first flew into ATL on a Delta DC-3 from SAV. The terminal was a wooden building. Captain brought me up to the cockpit before takeoff and pinned some wings on me. I was 12 years old - about 1951. Many visits since then and I have navigated all of the ensuing terminals. Things have really changed in 70 years.
    Thanks for the video.

Atlanta's greenery is truly awesome to see from the air! One would never know you're in a metropolis of over 7 million people. I live in Los Angeles and I wish we had just a fraction of those trees here in Southern California to look at when landing instead of wall-to-wall concrete. Great video. P.S. -- I enjoyed the music in the background. It lends a mood to the video as one gazes out the cockpit window watching the scenery pass by. Good job!

I could only dream that flying into KATL in the 80s as a young 25 yr old pilot was so peaceful!! I flew banking documents/light freight into Hartsfield late night in Mu-2s/Commanders/404s when all the big birds were coming home to roost. Non stop atc Speed talking, keep your speed up, no deviations +- 100ft or miss a call 2x and you were thrown to the back of the line. Maybe a L-1011/747 close in trail "keep your speed up" atc stresses. "Make your 1st right." Not really a option or get ran over. Right over the numbers your throw out full flaps, force the nose down, carrier landing and then make the turn only to see these massive lights bathe you and then watch those beast roar past. Some times I spent the night sleeping on conveyor belts eating out of vending machines. Ah the glamour of being a freight dog.

I fly in and out of ATL a lot and I am always amazed at how well things are run there. Awesome View, ATL is the Airport I travel from and I've been on flights landing there hundreds of times but never with a view lke this. I am constantly amazed at the Efficiency of ATL. They move maybe thousands of people per hour, but the Terminal is very clearly marked and navigable. I rarely feel like it's extremely crowded or inconvienient except maybe before major holidays and even then it's not that bad because they staff for those. I would actually pick it as my favorite large Airport even if I didn't live in the Atlanta area.

  • @fairalbion
    @fairalbion 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

ATL is very well run. My only niggle is a corollary of the airport's layout: the centralized TSA security checks for domestic passengers. Everyone is funneled through one or two bottlenecks (North or South) feeding all the concourses. Other airports are decentralized with separate terminals, each with its own security.

Another excellent video. Love the moving magenta dot. Would it be possible to overlay (text only is fine) ATC chatter too so that we can understand the "operations" that occur (e.g. Potomac scenic drive)? American commercial pilots love VFR landings, unlike overseas counterparts. Perhaps some textbook cases could be served in your channel. Thanks.

For years the airport was called, 'Hartsfield' after former mayor William B Hartsfield who was responsible for an expansion of the field.
In 2003, they added the name 'Jackson' after another former mayor, Maynard Jackson, who oversaw a huge expansion/redesign of the airport, including the 'midfield' terminal, which placed the terminals and gates between the (at the time) 4 runways.
The 5th runway was added later, and is on the other side of the multi-lane highway (I-285) the plane flies over just prior to landing.

Back in the 60's, me and my kid friend would ride our bikes on the runway until the guards ran us off. They never did catch us. The good old days.
