  • The volcanic eruption next to Litli - Hrútur erupted on July 10th 2023. As soon as I heard the news I packed my camera gear and headed to the volcano. I was there approximately between three and four hours after the eruption started.
The total hiking distance was approx. 20 km and it took me around 4,5 hrs to hike both ways.

Hello Hermann, I think it's good that apart from the well-known live webcams there are also private people like you who deliver completely different pictures. And then share these pictures - thanks for that!

Hermann, As always, a heartfelt thank you for posting. Your video shots are so very expressive and your commentary about the ruggedness of the terrain, your need to get in shape, the heat of the area, your concerns about air quality, and the many hours you traveled to capture the moment helped me understand what it must have been like to be there. I was fortunate to have seen a previous "volcano" video of yours in a presentation on our Road Scholar Cruise this past May. The music you choose to accompany the flyovers add power and majesty to the experience. I know you will continue to share your wonderful videos with us, but please remember to keep a safe distance from the dangers.

Thanks for taking the effort to report from the eruption site. 4,5 hours of walking must be quite exhausting...
For my unexperienced eyes you seemed to be dangerously close to the lava. Please stay safe and don't take any risk just for a good "shot".

@@prebenviggofejr1414 The road leading up to Keilir is closed but you could walk from the main road. However, then you would be walking through lava field which takes a long time! I recommend walking from the south.
