Damn dude, are you just taking a look at my profile and building all my commanders? Lol. Second video in a row where I’ve got this one. Love the build! Will definitely take some ideas from here.

A solid deck, but not running an offer you can't refuse is a flavor fail.
Also people can replace see double with right of replication for a combo win. It will trigger his second ability 25 times for a total of 150 damage.

I think you're thinking about devils. Belakor doesnt make deals just just kills people.

I have a Lord Xander deck so I already have a lot of that manna base (my local playgroup is ok with proxies for pricy cards that are already in another deck) I always trip up when it comes to making the tough call and having more manna and ramp in my decks. I get too greedy over wanting more fun spells and just don’t make those hard decisions to cut. I tend to go for 30 lands telling myself that I can get away with it! Lord Xander is an exception because it’s 7 cmc!

I have a very strict rule for myself: 38 Lands and 5 rocks before anything else.
After that, if I find that my deck is running a very low average CMC (15), I might cut a few of them.
I use the formula publicised by Frank Karsten to figure out a ballpark, and then overshoot it; some decks when put into the formula come out saying I should run about 34 Lands, so I run maybe 34 and 2-4 MDFCs.
Since I don't play cEDH, I don't think I could ever justify going so low as 30 Lands. While 30 is workable in extremely tighly-tuned decks that are crammed full of fast mana and aim to assemble a combo within a handful of turns, I reckon that anything below the top of cEDH needs somewhere between 35-40 unless it has some extenuating circumstances (Landfall wants more, for example).
Remember: Lands aren't a necessary evil you sacrifice deck slots to; they're the foundation your entire deck relies on. It's better to play 30 core cards and have 70 thing dedicated to making those 30 work than it is to have 70 cards all fighting for the limited support the remaining 30 can offer!

@@Carwinley Thank you. It’s these hard decisions that will make my decks run more consistently. I know it’s daft but, say, in my human tribal deck, it’s a case of… noooo I like all of these guys! I don’t want to take any out! Ooohh I like this one here, maybe I can squeeze him in if I drop just one more land… then I get stuck turn after turn with no lands getting drawn! But if I want to level up, I need to rip the bandage off! Question though - I am building a Tergrid God of Fright deck for tournament play (I want my playgroup to suffer! Mwahahaha!) what manna rocks would you run for mono colours? (Infinite combos are not allowed. One potential game ended is Possesed Portal to just lock the game down)

@@richardharrison4762 For mono colour it's a bit tougher, but for a generalist package I'd say Sol Ring (1 mana for CC), Arcane Signet (2 mana for B), Mind Stone (2 mana for C, can trade in for a draw later), Thought Stone (2 mana for C), and the appropriate Medallion for your colour (2 mana for -C on every [Colour] spell).
That alongside like... 30 Swamps and 8 Lands with nice effects should be a decent starting point.
It's also worth noting though that you might have particularly handy cards that fulfil the same purpose (Rampant Growth in Green, for example). In that case it's up to you whether to replace one of the generic rocks, or to supplement them.
Similarly, Throne of Eldraine is a card I adore; it's a good high-end rock as it is, and can also be an amazing draw engine?! Probably not as ground-shattering as it is in my mono-White Angels, but it's worth calling out.

Where Gyruda says "Your starting deck only contains cards with even converted mana costs", does it count the total mana cost as in 2 blues and 2 neutral, or does it only count one of these?

    • @Carwinley
      @Carwinley 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

"Converted mana cost" (also termed "mana value") means that you just find the total, treating coloured mana the same as generic.
For example, Avacyn, Angel of Hope is 5WWW; her MV/CMC is 8, because 5 Generic + 3 White = 8.
For another example, Sigarda, Font of Blessings costs 2GW, so her MV/CMC is 2 Generic + 1 Green + 1 White = 4.

Love that you look at commanders of yesteryear and point out newer stuff that comes out for them
