No one forces you thus the gates are open and not locked, it's free to leave. No need to for you to be here if that's what you think of my country. After all, every countries has pros and cons. When we moved to the Philippines in the mid 2000s, the number of security guards surprised me. It's very different in the US and the other countries we lived in. I was told it was because in the 90s and 2000's there were a lot of shootings at the malls and bombings. But honestly I never felt in danger when we lived there or when we visit unlike in Latin America and Africa we needed armed guards just to bring in medical supplies. But in the Philippines people are always so happy despite their unfortunate situations. It was the first place that opened my eyes about the inequalities in the world and just how privilege I was. My folks worked for an international organization and often visited the slums in Metro Manila as well as small villages. We would accompany them during a community feeding or medical work along with missionaries from the US and Korea. I was just 8 then but I played with the kids with no problem despite the language barrier we made a lot of friends. I finally get to visit after 5 years to go to Happy land to see our friends 🙂
