As a Filipino it saddens me to hear foreigners complaining about the cleanliness here. Its true and that's the reason I made this comment is to make my fellow Filipinos to be more aware of cleanliness and tidiness specially when it comes to throwing cigarette butts, papers, food packaging, tissues on the streets and keeping public toilets tidy. I beg my fellow Filipinos to be more conscious of keeping the soroundings clean. I also urge local officials specially Manila to implement stricter rules in making the city clean and presentable. Please lang nakakahiya tayo !!!😢
Corporations have to do their part, too. Bulk of the plastic wastes comes MNCs like Coca Cola, Nestle, P&G, Philip Morris, fast food etc. These corporations leave it to LGUs and consumers to take care of the wastes and that's not enough. I see fellow Filipinos try to clean up as best as they can but they can only do so much. Landfills are easily filled up an opening more is not sustainable. Public Markets and stores also use a lot of plastics. Of course we also have individuals who do not care about cleanliness but I think the younger ones are more conscious.
I wish somebody makes a program for that. It's one of my pet peeves but I can understand a lot are not aware and just follow what they see from other people. So i wish more LOCAL governments make it their project

We still struggle with trash from consumer goods manufacturers. I lived in Ph for six years and I'm from a so called third world county 🇯🇲 I've seen nice areas in the country and some not so nice, but I would never comment negatively on how poor the people live because I'm used to seeing the same in my own little island, slowly but surely the standard of living is improving even if it may take decades, but it's on the right track for improvement and there are more pros than cons that's why many expats especially Americans leave their " well developed country" to come and settle in Ph.😊
Speaking about poor people, this young man from, U.S.A. was surprised, about the poor people in the Philippines. To be honest, I think where ever you go in the world 🌎, there's gonna be a poor people 😔 some country, hides their own homeless people 😞 at least, Philippines they're in the open 😺
True, but if you live most of your life in an affluent area and are young and haven't traveled to many places; it's understandable. Also, I think he was comparing it to Japan specifically since he's staying there now.
He must be referring to the gap in inequality. There are places in the country that look comparable, even richer, to some of the most expensive cities in the world, like Makati or BGC. Meanwhile, there are ghetto-like parts of extreme poverty that they were not aware of.
@Topmoda..yes..May mga Super Expensive na Lugar dito sa Pinas ang dami namang mahihirap..Bongga naman kasi sa Japan at mas madaling hanapin ang Trabaho doon kisa dito.
The slums of Manila are the number one that shocks people that come from a rich country. Many family living in a tiny home with a bunch of kids that are suffering from starvation. In the rich Country like USA and Canada they have shelters and kids have allowance from the government. About homeless that you see along the street specially California, New York and some other states. Many of them have mental issues and drug addicts. People in a rich country will suffer too if they have a bunch of kids like the third world country or developing country. As a Filipino living in the USA there are cultures that i appreciate here and the are cultures that i don't specially when we are talking about the old people. Same foreigners going to our country, they have positive and negative views about our country.
All the responses are expected. Having been in Phillipines and SE Asia much I would caution anyone who hasn’t been there to go slow because things aren’t always the way they seem and things can get dramatic and chaotic very fast. This is well very well said. I will add it's kind of like living surrounded by bubble wrap your entire life, and then not so much. You are responsible for your safety in the Philippines. Civil suits are incredibly uncommon....No one is going to save you. Make smart decisions with your personal safety and money. If you make a bad business deal, there really is no way to get restitution. Japan is my second favorite place after PH along with Singapore, my biggest shock in PH was the poverty, BUT not in the way people try to make that a spectacle, it was a surprise the first time I came, then I got over it, it seems so amazing the poverty situation to alot of people simply because the government has strategically waited for now to start its modernization and building of new infrastructure, while other countries hurried and rushed that decades ago, but the downside to that was many areas of the country have experienced massive amounts of deterioration, and now along with the building of new infrastructures and what not, they now have to tear down mountains upon mountains of old structures that have accumulated in the cities to make sure everything is uniform, not just pretty stuff here, and ugly stuff there, but I think the bigger shock to me, is how shocked people are at the poverty, I mean, the country is the most disaster-prone country on earth, many of the most talented people in the country leave and turn on the nation completely when they could bring their talents back home to improve the place alot, and the population growth is insane, it isnt a surprise to me at all the country has gotten the way it is, but it is improving at a very fast rate, so much stuff in development right now, people wont be "surprised" anymore, no doubt.
Hahahaha, , most pilipino is humble down to earth, specially on the rural areas, ,,they own fishing vessels and and others but still living simple and will still say poor , , but true many live in Kubo and light houses due to typhoon and storm that always tore houses
This poverty thing is what makes politicians rich. They capitalize on them. They ask for budget for the projects, for their area's development and for the people support their plans, but they pocket the money instead. So mostly go abroad to have a better pay.
How can that guy who mentioned about poor people be shocked yet he's from the US who has a lot of homeless and extremely poor.Every country have an unfortunate life so he shouldn't be surprise.
Rather he should be shocked that the poor Filipinos can still afford to share their smiles and hospitality despite inadequacies and misfortunes while very resilient people and still functional in the society. Indeed it is very shocking in The Philippines that people from different socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds can thrive and coexist in peace and harmony.
You are inexperienced and just going by TH-cam videos. Most of the US is organized, clean and developed. The Philippines is slum after slum with pockets of developed areas.
@@JackJones7556I'm not sure where you from. I am a filipino and I can assure that your comment is not entirely true. There may be slum area but there are more develop areas.
Cleanliness issue? It hurts me as a Filipino, but that is the reality. If you judt came from Japan and landed in the Philippines, then you will see the very big difference between the two countries when comes to Cleanliness.
Advice for the house hunters. Best time is during rainy season or right after heavy storm.makes you realize how hard or easy to go around during heavy rain.shows hidden roof leaks and drain clogs
I thought these People gave some good answers Alex work vacation life here in the Philippines can be really good surprising in some ways but mostly very good. Take care Alex 👍👍🆒🆒😎😎
Traffic is always a negative especially in Manila. When I first visiited from living in Canada, I asked the driver, "Is this normal?" as we drove from the airport.
Japan is Japan.. Philippines is no way to compare to the most progressive and high discipline of their people in terms of cleanliness and respect and love to their nature and even the whole country itself.
Being a filipino that went to school and worked in Dallas, Texas for 35 years and retired now back in the philippines, I think i might have a solution to the negative side of the philippines like Poverty, Cleanliness and dirty people and dirty places. You can avoid all the ungodly sights by staying at a modern area of the Philippines like some comments from some viewers and avoid all the unpleasant sights 😇! Why for the life of me people come to the philippines and focus on trash, dirty people ragged out places and ragged out houses in the philippines. It's like me going to San Francisco where there's a lot of homeless people, trash, drugs and drugged out people out on the streets or even going to Detroit, The Bronx, compton and other places in america that's trashed out 😇. I wouldn't go to those places and be depressed 😇! Be happy and avoid depressing places 😇!
I agree. I watch everyday on TH-cam about the breaking of America's people to homelessness, crimes, drug addictions, zombies of fentanyl, etc. Seems state governments do not care.
Poverty is the biggest problem in the Philippines especially those having lots of kids that’s why you see street children. That cleanliness was obvious, they are clean as themselves (body) but outside their house 😉, also lots of scammers and people they can fool around. I’m a Filipino but now permanently based in London.
The last Interview was PLAIN TRUTH when he said he sees a lot of Poor..as a Filipino, I can only blame the policy makers in my Country for the mess that most poor people are experiencing..
Yes he Speaks The Truth, That Happen To me When I Left the Philippines I Was 18 Years Old I Came back To My Province For A Vacation AFTER 15 Years, I STARTED CRYING COZ It’s LOOKS LIKE MY PLACE Hasn’t CHANGE Just LIKE THe Way it Was …WHEN I Left OFF I Don’t Realize That Too Much Poverty I Don’t Know WHAT THE GOVERNMENTS DOING A Lot Of Corruption…. ✌️✌️✌️
Not really true the problem is also to be blaned on people who can not follow the law. and also over population. Imagine Philippines have over 100 million population not including the foriegners. that is a number population of a 12 States of US. while Philippines is just as big as Arizona which is one state of America. Arizona only have over 7 million population. imagine how can the government support its populatiion. there is bo control.
Thanks for the video. They were all resent arrivals so the answers were as expected..I think only one was retired and planning on settling here. I highly recommend NOT retiring here unless you can afford expensive expat health insurance because medicare, and medicare private plans, do not cover you except MAYBE an emergency room visit. And hospitals here will NOT admit you if you don't pay a deposit of about one third the estimated cost up front, before you get any medical attention at all. There is so so much more but there is not enough space here to write it all.
True, but healthcare is much cheaper here, so I think if you have a pension/passive income, plus about $10k USD in the bank for emergencies, you will be fine. Unless your health is not good, and in that case you shouldn't be in the Phil in the first place.
I agree. That's why I mentioned the ability to afford healthcare. But I would still advise against planning on being here for the rest of your life. Eventually the vast majority will need quality healthcare and the advantages of their country of origin. Again, I said plan. That doesn't mean one can't live out their life here.
@@orlandodizon4755 You might be correct, in part. Also, I want to say that I do love the Philippines very much. However, the large number of smoking vehicles on the road and the wide spread practice of burning ones own trash, certainly does not help.
@@timgeist1574 You'd have better air quality and fresher food outside the big cities, but the best private healthcare providers are there (big cities). It's a trade-off. You'd have a lot more options if you are reasonably healthy and do not need specialized care. Many communities, especially in the cities, no longer burn trash. I usually see that in the slums. I think there's already a law against that. Trash is collected by the city governments but we produce a lot of trash and the collection system can get overwhelmed. Backyard trash burning is more prevalent in the provinces but the air is so much better that it does not have much impact. I'm lucky that my community is a bit far from our city's main roads so traffic and air pollution is considerably lighter. But it is still noticeable in the morning and afternoon light. Many locals, those who can afford to, are moving out of the cities to live in the suburbs.
I'm no racist but foreigners who comes here in the Philippines especially the white men.... they think their so entitled and superior to us they always demand respect but they themselves doesn't respect!!! Not all of them at least. To all KAREN'S/KEN'S remember you are not in your country no more your in the Philippines!!!!! Show some RESPECT!!! But the PASSPORT BRO'S their the ones who are cool, respectful and most enjoyable and fun to talk too and to be with... for real for real no cap!!!
Hey Alex, have you been to Ilo-Ilo and Guimaras island? If you have time, it would be a good place to visit; specially Guimaras island(by the way, all of the "Phillipine Mangoes" that are sold in the supermarkets in the U. S. all come from from this little island), also check out the beaches at Jordan(in Guimaras).
@@Livingabroadalex i'll be looking forward to one day seeing a vlog of yours from there. Ilo-ilo is actually just one of 4 provinces that make up Panay Island. There's Ilo-Ilo(which is where my mom is from- and then my mom traces 1/2 of her roots from Guimaras Island); then there's Capiz(where my dad is from) - Capiz is also home to the largest solid silver church bell in Asia; then there's Antique(pronounced An - ti - ke) ; and finally Aklan, which is quite famous for Boracay island. You can actually do a Panay island vlog series, if you're up for it. If you'll go visit all those 4 provinces and really do some serious exploring, you might actually have at least 2 to even 3 months worth of content. ...By the way, if and when you do find yourself in Ilo-Ilo, make sure to have meal at Tatoy's Manokan- at their original place in Sto. Ni;ño Sur, Arevalo. They are considered the pioneer in seaside restaurants in Ilo-Ilo. Also, check out why many have dubbed the beaches of Guimaras Island as a "Hidden Gem".

So many things you can comment in the Philippines, nevertheless i love my country despite of imperfection, there is always two sides of the story. I like your content sir, hope one day you can visit Davao and enjoy most of your journey.
Lol, it's just editing. I cut out the dead air or when I use filler words like "oh ok, very interesting, wow really " oe whatever. It's polite to hear the guests. However, for the viewer, it can get redundant since I show cache many interviews within the same video
Ex-patriates and retirees should not rush into long-term commitments (marriage, purchasing properties...) if they're not familiar with the persons or communities. There are so many options. Do your due diligence and research. We have scammers and gold diggers, too but not as bad as many countries. They will enjoy their stay here if they are reasonably healthy because they can move around. If they are health-challenged, they have to make sure they have access to their meds and private healthcare. The best hospitals are in the big cities. Some med they will have to order from abroad. Good thing is private healthcare is much cheaper here and the doctors and nurses are pretty good.
There is not a lot of money here in the Philippines. There are many poor people, the man said and was shocked. I think the reality is, there are a lot of money here in the Philippines, only the money are possesed by the few, mostly politicians and oligarchs allied with the politicians who are in top government offices. So, most of the people are poor.
The gentleman at 6:00. Find an optometrist office with a cute lady working the eye-glasses section and have her fix your frames to square up on your face. She'll get you looking sharp and maybe you could parlay that into a date.
in short its helping each other, called ‘bayanihan’. in point “ your money helps a lot, and in return you live cheap here, if you stay in your country your money gone by the wind😊. its a win win situation. vice versa, and thank you for choosing PH😊
The shock I got once in the Philippines, was the food. Not the same food as in the usa, Even the fast food like jollibee and McDonald's tasted so different. It literally made me sick just from the taste. Then the street vendors selling fish, chicken, pork uncooked that's been out in the heat all day. Different cuts of meat. Talking about not for human consumption type cuts. Explain chicken feet? Hardly any meat on the bones. My fiance would literally suck the meat from the bones then spit out the bones. I basically lived off spam, rice, cookies, chicken breast, Dominos pizza, hell even the spaghetti, pizza was sweet. Everything is sweet. So my time in the Philippines was me getting sick from eatting/trying street food. Travelers diarrhea, vomiting nonstop. 🤢
Yes the trash was a major problem also. Literally at night they would sweep all the trash in piles on the side of the road, then homeless people would pick through it. Trucks would come by and pick it up. Imagine downtown New York but 50% worse on the trash, urine, feces.
@ImagineOnward thank you. Sure, I d9 1on1 consultation for 100 bucks. I wish I knew what I know now when I first started. I've grown 100 000 k in a year with just my phone
I’m a FilAm living in the US and if you ask me where to stay or retire, I’ll choose USA than my birth place Philippines. They say PH is cheap but that’s what you paid for example crowded place, traffic, smoke belchers, petty crimes, no Walmart, inconvenience, lack of job, typhoon country, expensive electricity, lack of trees rivers lakes, missing squirrels, not a 4 season country, can’t pay bills online, not quite, dogs cats everywhere. It's interesting how some are quick to dismiss Western concerns when it comes to driving. Hopefully you can understand the consequences of an accident for us (Westerner, anyone who is perceived to have more ) can be much more substantial than a local? Whether at fault or not, you will be pressured to pay. Taking a ride by the local police is not my idea of a fun. One of the quickest ways to the police station is through driving. Back home we are taught to contact police, we are told to abide by traffic laws, and if in a accident not to drive off. These things are not on the top of peoples concerns on Filipino roads. I know of a very close Filipino friend who didn't know what the sound of a turn signal was, when they heard it because it is not often used in the Philippines. I have been in one traffic accident in Manila, the Taxi driver simply drove off...I was his passenger. He didn't even look at me say sorry or acknowledge that we hit something. That is the normal for a local.

Hahahaha, , most pilipino is humble down to earth, specially on the rural areas, ,,they own fishing vessels and and others but still living simple and will still say poor , , but true many live in Kubo and light houses due to typhoon and storm that always tore houses
@@Livingabroadalex I am the gummy bear, I cant wait either.
@gangstagummybear3432 🤣💪

Most of the Filipinos would say "rice is life" with chicken adobo.
Living in the province is the best for retirement. Fresh air, fruits and vegetables. Nice people (mostly).
Cleanliness issue? It hurts me as a Filipino, but that is the reality. If you judt came from Japan and landed in the Philippines, then you will see the very big difference between the two countries when comes to Cleanliness.

I think so too. I always enjoy hearing different people's experiences

Good answer.Your not passport bro.Just a a individual enjoying the country!
Bingo!
Well said ...
I agree. I watch everyday on TH-cam about the breaking of America's people to homelessness, crimes, drug addictions, zombies of fentanyl, etc. Seems state governments do not care.
What a good analogy...you are 100% on the money..

Anywhere else in the world there are some young women scammers. Be forewarned though with the 'signs'. Stay smart.
Poverty is the biggest problem in the Philippines especially those having lots of kids that’s why you see street children. That cleanliness was obvious, they are clean as themselves (body) but outside their house 😉, also lots of scammers and people they can fool around. I’m a Filipino but now permanently based in London.

Yes! Absolutely

The orange t shirt guy looks like Bruno Mars😮
Your doing Amazing...
I'll be in the Philippines next year in Cebu 😁😁😁😁
Awesome!! Enjoy
Not surprising especially of the Filipino kindness.
For sure!
Thank you for your entertaining vlog, I really enjoyed it
Try to visit Cebu International Academy, there are a lot of foreigners studying there.
Thank you for the tip!
Well said. I have to do a video on health care for sure
True, but healthcare is much cheaper here, so I think if you have a pension/passive income, plus about $10k USD in the bank for emergencies, you will be fine. Unless your health is not good, and in that case you shouldn't be in the Phil in the first place.
@redpillsatori3020 great point!
I agree. That's why I mentioned the ability to afford healthcare. But I would still advise against planning on being here for the rest of your life. Eventually the vast majority will need quality healthcare and the advantages of their country of origin. Again, I said plan. That doesn't mean one can't live out their life here.
thank you for this😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic people, beautiful natural scenery, but the air quality in Cebu City, Manila, etc. is rather poor, especially during the dry season.
You're absolutely right
Too many cars... we were influenced by the US's car-centric planning.
@@orlandodizon4755 Thank you.

Wow!! Sounds like a dream for me lol I love mangoes. Very interesting
Thank you, I'll definitely make time for it
@@Livingabroadalex i'll be looking forward to one day seeing a vlog of yours from there.

Does anyone notice the blue guy popped out at 0:50🤔 or it’s just because of the distorted signal🤔
Excellent advice. Thank you for sharing.

8:29 - WHY THIS GOT THE MOST REPLAYED PART OF THE VIDEO?
Why they dont try Iloilo City?
There is not a lot of money here in the Philippines. There are many poor people, the man said and was shocked. I think the reality is, there are a lot of money here in the Philippines, only the money are possesed by the few, mostly politicians and oligarchs allied with the politicians who are in top government offices. So, most of the people are poor.
Sadly true for many countries around the world
Bingo!

in short its helping each other, called ‘bayanihan’. in point “ your money helps a lot, and in return you live cheap here, if you stay in your country your money gone by the wind😊. its a win win situation. vice versa, and thank you for choosing PH😊
Yes, you're right! I absolutely agree 😊
Nice

3:33 The driving wahahahhaahah. He's afraid to bump another car. And of course a motorcycle in between😂😂😂😂
It's interesting how some are quick to dismiss Western concerns when it comes to driving.

You cannot solve the poverty in the Philippines not until the Philippine economy improves. They said that the US is the richest country on earth but they still have plenty of homeless and poor people in that country.
