Highlights from Round 1 of the Women's 4 x 100m Relay during the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men.

Classy move by USA T&F to let Lauryn Williams anchor after their disaster races in 2004 & 2008. I knew the record would come down after the B team turned it out in 41.65. during a semi-final.
If not for the first exchange, the may have challenged the (then) Olympic record, and gotten very close to the (then) world record.
In the final, the US would have three 100m finalist, in which all ran under 10.9

I loved Verena Sailer of GER (anchor). She always looked like she was giving it her all. She once beat Fraser-Price in an indoor meet. No doubt a highlight of her career. But In the post race interview, she said it was great to win, but she let it be know she was realistic about it, and KNEW who the better runner was.

+Frederick Grimes there is a lot of young talent coming up throught the ranks. I think USTAF felt obligated to her because of the Olympic Tials 100m debacle. But she has proven to be an unreliable relay runner. Only one time can I remember her running a good leg.
