    14:10 Is what you came here to see. Although you'll be disappointed because there's no gross footage of a gnarly leg break. Mitchell said after the race he broke his left fibula at around 200m - not even noticeable on camera, just a slow-ish run and slight hobble towards the end of his lap.

    For all the people who are wondering when Manteo Mitchell broke his leg or if this video was just clickbait... Mitchell actually did break his left fibula at around 200 meters, but since it wasn't a very severe fracture, he was able to complete his leg of the race. If you rewatch the last 100 meters of his leg, you can clearly see him limping from the effort of sprinting so speedily. Still, it's a wonder that he was even able to finish the race and still run THAT DARN FAST.

      @@KenyanBunnie You're so welcome! Well, the Dominican Republic was disqualified because when you are waiting for your teammate to come around to hand you the baton, you are supposed to move into the 1st lane if your team is in first place. I'm not positive, but I think that the DR went into the first lane when they were not supposed to be there. It was difficult to tell what the commentators meant, so I could be wrong. But to my understanding, that is what they were trying to convey. Hope that this was helpful!

      +sam rhodes are you stupid? Their first runner fractured his leg, causing him to run sub-optimally, and somehow they still got 2nd with a tie down to 1/100th of a second. Obviously, had he not gotten a fracture, they'd have won pretty handily, even so they stomped everyone except the bahamas.

    Lots of questions about the second heat. It wasn't obvious the USA 1st leg guy broke a leg - he just didn't run particularly fast. How did he break it? Was he coming back from a previous fracture or something? What happened to the Jamaican third leg runner? He just stopped at 200m. And why were Dom Rep disqualified?

      Regarding Manteo Mitchell, he slipped on some stairs 3 days earlier and landed awkwardly on the leg, but after checkups and training they believed nothing had come from. Then it broke at the 200m mark, likely as a result of the earlier incident.

    I'm a long distance track runner 200m, 800m and 1600 also shot put. In December 2014 I got diagnosed with Jouvinal arthritis. I've done competitive track for 5 years and this is my first season running with my arthritis.
    It's going terrible.
    I'm behind, ankles flair up etc.
    My coach made me stop running at today's practice.
    I cried in the car snd told my mom "I mentally can do this but physically i can't.
    I don't want to give up something i love but my arthritis is getting in the way of it.
    Any suggestions or tips on what I should do?

    • @Husani759
      @Husani759 9 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      morgan danceandcrafts Do you mean "juvenile" arthritis? I ran and jumped competitively for 7 years. Perhaps you might need orthotics because of a misalignment, or some kind of imbalance. They're pricey but they help tons of people. You also might wanna spend a lot of time in those ice water whirlpools after EVERY practice, to ease inflammation and promote healing/recovery. Spend more time doing low impact stuff such as stationary biking and pool workouts, too INSTEAD of the workouts your team is doing. And on competition time, pop those pain killers. I know the pain killers aren't the best solution, but I ran the 55M dash, the 100, 200, 400, 4X100, triple jump and long jump throughout my career. And I was a 5 time New England Champ as well as Bay State Games Metro Division Champ, amongst other things. I also ran cross country. This kind of advice/supplementation helped me. What I didn't try, that you might wanna look into are supplements for joint recovery such as MSM, Glucosamine, Chondroitin, Magnesium (with B6), Boron, Vitamin D3, Proline and Lysine. And really stay on top of them. They need to build up to adequate levels in the body. Many of them actually create lubricating surfaces within your joints to ease joint pain, besides assisting in joint recovery. I wish I knew what I knew now, back then. Good luck man.

    • @Mr.Mia13
      @Mr.Mia13 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I use orthotics but they are for my flats not my spikes.
      I do swim therapy which helps!
      I do take a some spice thing.
      Im doing a relay 2 by 200 now.
      I've got practice 3× a week and have competitive track meets other days.
      Thanks for the AMAZING tips, advice and motivation!
      That's awesome!
      Amazing.
      I do cross country also.
      I modify on workouts.
      And yes I did mean juvenile arthritis lol.
      Thanks.
      I'm jealous lol you sound like amazing runner.
      I thought no one would respond.
      Thanks and good luck.
      I really want to make the Pen relays

    • @Husani759
      @Husani759 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      morgan danceandcrafts No problem with the advice. I recommend using actual running sneakers with orthotics in them on all training days. Save the spikes for competition, unless you can't help it (field events). The supplements I recommended will work synergistically to help you -- know what it is you're taking. You seem a bit ambivalent about what you're taking now -- you should know what that "spice thing" does. And don't be jealous at all. My track and field days have been over for well-over 15 years. I was a better jumper than sprinter, and was competitive as far as prep schools and ivy league schools were concerned (I ran at Harvard), but I stopped competing my senior year because real life called. When I realized that I wasn't going to be a world class competitor, I had to focus on my career. So I skipped competing senior year to make sure that I was well-along in my career path. It paid off. I'm still in great shape, and am about to begin cycling as a hobby. But no more track and field for bonzo. :)
      I wish you all the best in future competitions. Enjoy this time while you can. Peace.

    It's crazy the amount of comments of ppl that are disappointed that they did not see some horrific leg break. Some even discounting the injury. You try to run 200m with even the slightest fracture, after having run 200m already. Not to mention doing so at the highest level of the sport. Prime example Jamaica had an injury and tapped out. The USA sprinter still finished.

    I think its so unfair when completed baton pass runner has contact with a un-exchanged baton runner and cause obstruction for that runner. They should all stay in their lanes for the entirety of the race - there's runners jumping over runners, body clashes - I think it should be made more fair for the other teams.

    For anyone who watched this expecting a gruesome leg snap, prepare to be disappointed. He fractured his fibula around the 200m mark and you wouldn't notice anything unusual besides a slight limp and a slow run (46.1).
