      Really great job! Would've liked to see some summary or breakdown at the end for powerlifter vs weightlifter vs bodybuilder/general fitness where you recommend specific specs to look for like coating, tensile strength, shaft diameter, etc... that would probably fit the needs of each of those crowds best with budget choices and premium choices. Maybe in a table of some sorts.
      Also, we need a look at some rackable shorty bars like the Get Rx'd Shorty and Rogue C70s!

    I recently bought a Titan Performance Series Olympic barbell to be used as a beater bar for my land mine. The cheap chrome coating looks pretty tacky (especially compared to my SS Rogue and REP bars…) and I was annoyed to find a little rust on one of the bearings (didn’t even take them apart). That said, after using some 3-in-1 oil to get the sleeves to spin smoother, I have to say, for what I paid ($80!?!) it gets the job done. The tolerances aren’t great and I’m a little worried about the coating chipping in the long run, but when I’m too lazy to move the better bars from inside of my rack, I’ve used the Titan for my incline/overhead presses and it’s been great!

    I know you like your adjustable benches, have you ever tested a Body Solid? I just picked one up yesterday and it is built incredibly well. Super heavy duty, everything welded, heavy duty joints, and a very durable looking gray paint.

    • @martystrasinger3801
      @martystrasinger3801 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      My power rack is by Body Solid. 11 gauge, 3”x3”. Does the job, can’t beat the price. The 3” hole spacing requires a few workarounds. The 1&3/8” holes may seem weird BUT it’s very easy to make my own attachments using 1” black iron plumbing parts from the local hardware store (1” internal diameter plumbing is just under 1&3/8” external diameter, fits perfectly).

    • @ronhoover5516
      @ronhoover5516 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      For some reason I've never been able to determine, YT fitness reviewers tend to avoid Body Solid like the plague. My guess is this is probably because there is an unstated perception that the brand isn't hardcore enough or it's neither elite level nor bargain basement. It's really too bad (I've no interest in Body Solid, just own some of their stuff) because like you I've found their pieces to be solid, no pun intended. I wish one of these guys would put some time in on Body Solid, Powertec and some of the 'midlevel' brands. Not everyone wants Rogue or Rep, nor do they need it-I know I don't.

    My black zinc 20kg Ohio Power Bar is my go to for daily use. Rogue's Boneyard is always a good option. You just need to check it daily if you're looking for something as stuff disappears quickly. @@senorbautista6143 it's got wear on it as a it's similar to paint but no rust. It does get condensation on it from time to time as it's in a garage that isn't climate controlled. I use chalk but I make sure it's cleaned off prior to putting it back in my bar rack. I use a propane forced air heater in the winter and the summer is just a couple big fans for cooling. Living in northern Ohio I get a variety of weather so it's holding up quite well. I've been using it 3-4x/week for almost 7 years. Every time I'm right at the point of ordering a higher quality bar, I get bogged down in coatings, etc, and then ask myself what's missing with the bar I have? I'm mostly powerlifting, so an obvious answer would be center knurling. Fantastic video, really learned a lot!! What would your recommendation be for a shaft and sleeve coating (or a specific bar) for a bodybuilder who doesn't care much about knurling, spin, whip, and honestly most factors besides wanting the bar not to break/bend or wear super fast and be very low-maintenance for under $200?
    I've been looking at the Signature Fitness 2-Inch Olympic Barbells in Cerakote and Chrome (Black, 1500lb capacity) which is on sale for only $115.99 right now (even seen it go lower the past few weeks) but it seems like both the shaft and sleeves are cerakote which I believe you said isn't ideal, at least for the sleeves.
    Is there another low-maintenance & durable coating besides cerakote I should be looking for on an under $200 bar? Really not worried if the knurling gets filled in, just need the bar to last.

      Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it!
      I'd be worried about any bar that's claiming those specs and finishes at that price. If you think about what goes into producing a bar at that level. 190k tensile, 8 sets of needle bearings, Cerakote... Then the fact they're producing it and shipping it here from China and then to you for $128. Plus they're still making money... I avoid that type of stuff for good reason.
      Under $200 is hard to find a good bar. I'd probably go with Rep's Delta Basic. At least we know those specs are real which is why they're not as inflated as other cheap Amazon bars.

    I came for the chopped plates but I like the corny jokes and breakdown of everything especially just getting more into the higher end of stuff than simple casual grab whatever is cheap. I didn't even know all the smaller differences between bars lol

    Does the Chewy bar knurling fall between Rogue OB SS and Rogue OPB SS?

    • @GlucksGym
      @GlucksGym  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes but that's a broad range. The OB is very mild and the OPB much more aggressive. I'd just call the Chewy a more timid OPB. It's a well done knurl but not what I'd call aggressive.

      @S.Critch ปีที่แล้ว

      Anyone know why discontinued? Did they just miss the market on this one or was something wrong with the bar? I thought about it but with the discount it’s still close in price to a TPB which for the money I’d rather have than something being discontinued.

    • @meisdetermined
      @meisdetermined ปีที่แล้ว

      @@S.Critch I’m wondering if the market is reaching saturation. With REP having the Colorado bar as their 28.5mm all around bar and Rogue having the Ohio bar, Texas Barbell having theirs, etc. etc. I think Kabuki couldn’t meet the price point. $449 is your bare steel option? If people are gonna pay that kind of money then they want a hassle free product. I used code GGR5(?) and got it for $237.50 shipped. That’s a price point I am willing to pay for the little teeth grip that their bars offer. And the website didn’t charge for taxes so literally $237.50 was the price. Rogue adds tax and shipping.

    But I still love my Texas Power Bar... There is something really nice about it... like a old school feeling, the knurl, the "handmade" something to it... I don't know, even if the new rogue is technically better, if there is one bar I always go back it's this one.
