    Always wanted a Texas Power Bar and I finally will got this one. I love it. The black zinc with chrome sleeves looks beautiful. It did have a gouge by the middle knurling that made me sad but overall it's excellent.The knurling is more aggressive than my black zinc rogue power bar. thanks for all the work you put in Brandon. I visit Rhode Island twice a year and hope one day I bump into you.

    A major Thank You for your efforts in getting Buddy Capps/Texas Power Bars to release the 29mm power bar! I was one of your followers who Emailed TPB's to request the 29mm power bar. On 12/22/22 I sent an Email to TPB's in support of your/our request. I was thrilled when I got an Email from TPB's on 5/31/23 saying the 29mm bar was now available. I truly believe that if it wasn't for Basement Brandon and your followers this bar would not have been produced. I will be ordering mine at the end of this month when I get my paid (retired, paid monthly ugh). Again, Thank You for your efforts! Great channel, great review. God Bless.

    Got delivery of my TPBV2. It shipped in 1 day and was delivered in 3. Black zinc/chrome sleeves. My other bar is an Ohio Bar, Stainless Steel (not the OPB) The TPB has a more aggressive knurl as Brandon mentioned. It is eating into my Ghost roller J-cups more than the Ohio Bar. The collars are thicker than the Ohio Bar, which I like because it gives me just a bit more room with the plates as I'm walking the bar back into the j-cups. I did buy this for the 29mm and agro knurl and I do prefer it over the Ohio Bar's 28.5 and lighter sand paper feeling knurl. I do like the TBP and I'm pretty sure this will be my main bar but feel like the Ohio Bar has a slight edge on overall appearance of quality.
    Note: I can't give feedback on whip/stiffness because I'm old and can't push those heavy weights like you all.

    • @BasementBrandon

    I got the bare steel with bare steel sleeves (yes I know Brandon I’m stupid) I didn’t have any bars with bare steel sleeves so I thought. Heck let’s do it. This bar is amazing. I personally like the knurl much more than the Ohio power bar. I like the slightly thicker collars (compared to 20kg Ohio power bar) for sumo, and it just looks banging. I’ve kept it oiled and clean for just over a week now I’ve had it and I absilirlt love it. I probably should have gotten the chrome sleeves, but I just wanted to give a shot to bare sleeves on a bar and see how that goes. Love this bar. 11/10

    I pick one up in the Black cerakote. I think it’s the right choice for someone in an open air or humid garage area like we have here in TN. While, I am sure the coating dulls the knurling to some degree, but even with the coating I would still put in in that rogue aggro 2 area. It’s not quite as a aggressive as my Baresteel equipment bar which in the past we have discussed it might be like a Aggro 2.8.

    • @markhalstead2386
      @markhalstead2386 ปีที่แล้ว

      The OHPB has good knurl, but it it not really aggressive like Brandon described the TPB. If you want aggressive knurling, then TPB. If not, then OHPB. If you want stainless, then it is OHPB.

    • @BasementBrandon
      @BasementBrandon  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes as Mark said it depends what you're looking for and what you want to spend. If looking at a black zinc or bare OPB, the main difference will be knurling. If looking at SS, OPB is the way to go. If you want aggressive and SS you'd have to look at the aggro bars, but they go up quite a bit in price.

    Nice review as always. Unfortunately in the Pacific Northwest in a garage, bare steel and zinc are non-starters. My first bar was black zinc. Within a few months, fair amount of rust. Or maybe my garage is just special. Stainless steel for life.

  • @ElijahG98
    @ElijahG98 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I wish they would make a stainless shaft texas power bar. I feel like when buying a high end bar goimg stainless is worth the price jump (like on the Ohio power bar). Coatings make the knurl worse and are worse corrosion resistance than stainless. Its a double win. Luckily I dont really need another power bar tho but some day when I have more space and can actually wall mount I'll prob end up with more bars. Currently I just have a stainless american barbell elite power bar and it checks all the boxes for me.

  • @richardmather1906
    @richardmather1906 ปีที่แล้ว

    If they do chrome that well, they ought to offer it with all chrome, like an American Barbell bar. Chrome, done well, is an excellent finish, IMO. Speaking of which, I was tempted to ask you which you liked better, this or the Chewy, but I will wait for the next video.

    • @BasementBrandon
      @BasementBrandon  ปีที่แล้ว

      So they do offer bars in Chrome, but since this is new, it's limited to certain finishes. That being said, I don't love a chrome shaft as I feel it dulls the feel too much. In terms of this vs the Chewy, it depends. Chewy is built with tighter tolerances and nicer finishes, but it's also like 2x the cost.

    How frequently should I brush the bar if I'm working out 6 days a week, no chalk and do I need to brush the sleeves and weights collars to keep it sterile?

    • @BasementBrandon
      @BasementBrandon  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So some of this is going to depend on your environment. But a stiff nylon bristle brush should be fine for a new bar. Brass brush is more for when a bar already has some rust/corrosion on it. If you have a low humidity area you can just clean when needed (visual inspection). If training in a hot/humid location you might want to just do once a week or every other week to start.

    Now those are reasonable prices for a new power bar.
    REP, who I love, comes out with their new power bar (Black Diamond) made overseas with a price of over $400, almost $500 to my door.
    I'm not a fan of REP's new price hikes and as much as I was looking forward to buying REP's new power bar, after I saw the price gouging I won't be buying it. I'm sure I'm not the only one says this.
    REP just priced themselves out of thousands of sales on the Black Diamond bar.
    It's not the money to me, it's the principle of hacking up prices.
    I just don't agree with it and I don't need another power bar, it would've been a grown up toy purchase. Might look at this bar as I don't have a Texas power bar.

      It would be closer to the Chewy 20 TPI retail version than the KPB. So the Rogue OPB is like a 16, TPB a 18, Chew 20, and KPB 25.

    Hi Brandon. Great content and review as I have come to expect from you. My main bar is a 20kg Rogue Ohio power bar. I have difficulty on my lifts clipping the uprights, I have a 43” width rack. It looked like this bar was spaced well off the uprights on your Rogue rack. Is that an optical illusion or do you actually have a couple inches space from each collar to the upright?

    • @BasementBrandon
      @BasementBrandon  ปีที่แล้ว

      This bar has a bit wider collars than a 45lbs OPB, which I find is fine for wider racks. I will say a good trick to use for comp bars is just throw on 2.5lbs plates on the inside before loading anything else. Need to account for the extra 5lbs, but make it easier to work with.

    • @tadleyironwood7595

    Hey basement Brandon I bought the same version as you. The black zinc and chrome. However I noticed all throughout the shaft the black zinc seems to be missing in many areas where it looks like specks of silver. Looks like they missed a whole bunch of spots in the shaft in regards to even application of the black zinc. Does yours have this issue?
    Also this is my first non stainless steel bar. Dos black zinc last or wear off easily? I hope they make a stainless steel version

      Mine doesn't. Have you brushed it down with a nylon brush? Might just be shavings? If not I'd reach out to them and see what they say.

      @@BasementBrandon one last question, I noticed on the black zinc where there is no knurling, between the middle knurl and the rest, you had mentioned a greenish hue. I noticed tonight I already have it where there is no knurling, it's like a greenish/brownish hue. Any idea why that happens? And I'm surprised it happened there as I'm not gripping there so I'm perplexed as to why it is happening there and not where the knurling is (which is where I grip)
      And I just bought this bar this summer, for it to happen this fast is that normal from your experience?

    I’ve never bought a power bar as I have embarrassingly small hands 😆 my wife’s hands are easily bigger than mine. Makes grip one of my weak areas. I have the TPB 28.5. Is it worth upgrading to a 29mm or do you think small hands wouldn’t benefit from it as much? Looking to get into powerlifting soon and I’m thinking may have to anyway as that’s what meets would use. Any advice appreciated 😁

    • @BasementBrandon
      @BasementBrandon  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      28.5mm is still considered comp legal, however you typically won't find them used most in actual competitions. I don't see a reason to upgrade here unless you just want to.

      Just lift with whatever feels good. With thinner bars there’s slightly more bend while lifting that could give a very small advantage but ultimately in my opinion it’s really not enough to matter. Don’t fret the small shit.
