Cycle a Fish Aquarium without Fish - Fishless Cycle

  • To cycle a fish aquarium with no fish you need to start with adding a tiny bit of fish food every 3 to 5 days. Over the time span of a couple of weeks that fish food will start to decay and turn into ammonia inside the aquarium. That ammonia well then turn to Nitrite and then to Nitrate. That nitrate will then start to create an ecosystem. More beneficial bacteria starts to grow that feeds on that nitrate.
    It is crucial that you do not rush this process because creating that cycle in your aquarium takes time. It can sometimes take 4 to 6 weeks to cycle in aquarium properly. I also give some advice on how to cycle a fish tank using small little fish. I sometimes find that to be a lot easier than the fish food method with no fish.
    This process of cycling your aquarium is slower than using fish in the tank but it’s a lot safer to the fish. If you’re worried about the fish getting harmed, you should be using a fishless cycle without fish to cycle your aquarium.

    What I got out of this video is that if you want to cycle an aquarium without fish, just add fish. Great info thank you.

      I felt the same like what? I just started a 5 gallon tank with some Anubias plants attached to drift wood and have been dumping in food. It's only been a week and I have no nitrite or nitrate so my takeaway is, if you do the fish less cycle just be prepared to wait a long time.

      I went to an aquarium store I told them I needed to start cycling a new tank from scratch they gave me the “poo water” from one of their filter sponges to add a spike in the bacteria I needed to get the tank started. It definitely sped up the cycle but it didn’t look pretty at first

      Knowing my tank is 55 gallons should I still start with two guppy's when I get some plants thanks Buddy.

    This feels like the most straightforward video on the topic-- I'm still super worried about my future fish so I'm planning to start off the cycle fish-food style w/plants and then add a fish once the nitrates start showing up, but I'm getting a lot of plants mentioned here so I feel relatively confident. Hoping this doesn't kill my future friend! :,)

    Great video man! You have the same problem as I do! Nervous about being on camera, talking in front of a crowd, or commonly called stage fright! You have nothing to worry about, your video was informative and you explained things very well.

    I just bought a 55 gallon aquarium, power head, cheap internal filter and a multi color 48 inch fluvel plant 3.0 light. It's been running for three days now. I just watched your video on fishless tank cycling. I never thought about putting in plants. I don't have substrate just gravel an rocks. When i get some plants what color is best for plants. Also my well water is high in alkaliney. When i use the ph drops maxs it out as high as it goes bright blue i think 7.4 should i try doing something about my water. Not sure what to do next. Any advise will be helpful thank you. Loved your video. Your new subscriber Alvin

    Put 2 or 3 blader snails and your aquarium should catch some sunlight. No food and water changes needed snails will eat algae but they will not overpopulate without adding food into aquarium.

    This might sound dumb but when you put the hardy fish in to speed up the cycle you feed them right 😂

    Can we use boiled vegetables or other kinds of food instead of fish food???? And what about water changes during cycling process??

  • @kimberbentley5829
    @kimberbentley5829 ปีที่แล้ว

    Listen, I’m not the brightest bulb and I overthink everything. What I want to know is regardless of fishless or fish in, at what point do I do a water change? I know if the nitrates are high that it needs changed but I’m afraid of doing it too soon and stalling the cycling process. Do I sound as crazy as I feel?

    Amazing . Complete cycle in 2 weeks. Kessil 360, corner matten filter, 40 plus substrate feeder plants, Dennerle scapers soil caped with 2mm sand. CO2 with a controller. No fish. Ammonia is now zero , and my nitrates are at least 80 , so i guess i can do a water change and get the nitrates to about 40 and add 6 or 7 guppy fry and juvies to a 40 gallon. Your thoughts? I am kinda new to the hobby. I feel like i might be missing something. I have a colony of breeding cories ready to go in shrimp and ancisterous that are the surviovors of a busted tank to transfer over.

    Ok so never done this before please can you answer me two qestions for my new tank 1.substrate then gravel which substrate is best with plants and 2. whats the optimum ph/nitrate level im looking for ...going to leave my tank for six weeks with a couple of guppies in (and top and bottom plants) thankyou have subscribed

      I can't help with the substrate, but the water parameters really depend on the fish. Different fish like different Ph levels. Once decide on the fish, you can then research the levels. Good luck!

    I am going to be setting up a new 75 gal, so in that case, would you recommend a few more plants and just a few more fish? A guppy or two in a bigger aquarium probably won't add enough ammonia to move the cycle along?

  • @davemathis4215
    @davemathis4215 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I would add if you have discus do method one don’t put plants and little fish in there to start a cycle or you r going to kill fish that cost 100s of dollars a piece with bacteria infection from those guppy’s and definitely gill flukes from guppy’s

    Bad video. All you did was talk about plants. I came here to learn more about cycling a fish tank. Not to become a Gardner. Also there products that just add ammonia to the tank. I'm so surprised you didn't even mention that instead went right to putting fish food in the tank.
