      Can I use spring water, from an untreated ground water source? This is the water I drink, I wondered, obviously I will test it to see the levels but would there be anything else to be aware of , this water is hard water area coming through lime stone

    Thank you for your very well-explained video! I love the comparison of all versions. The instant start is perfect for unexpected rescues or quarantines!
    I have an established, fully cycled & planted tank for a few years now. I just did a water change on that tank and used the old water to put into new smaller tank (I topped it up with fresh as well). I didn’t have a spare filter for the old tank (not that I’d want to change that during a water change) so I just did a quick “filter squeeze” into the new tank. I’ve also moved a plant from the old one into the new one cause it has some old bacteria on it. I’ve heard that using substrate form an established tank is a good idea as well.
    I’ve done this a few times before and it always seems fine. I’m sure some more sensitive species of fish you may want to hold off on for a little while. The only downside is that this is harder to do if you’re just getting into the hobby and don’t have anyone to give you old filter media.

    I made the mistake of getting a betta before a tank was cycled. I saw it dying in the store so I bought the tank, accessories, and the bettas. Not only is he still alive, but he is completely healed! He had velvet disease AND fin rot from being kept in poor conditions in Petsmart. I am a science major and had to take a crap load of biology courses (even though I’m an astrophysics major), so I think that was what helped me. I have done it with other bettas in my other tanks and no problems. I only encountered a problem when my bettas killed two otocinclus (they were constantly mating and driving them nuts) and I couldn’t find their bodies for a week. I’m just here to tell people that you don’t have to wait weeks and if you know enough biology, you’ll know how to get your ecosystem up and running FAST

      @jenifferdeluna4523 to be honest, I don’t do the whole two months cycling. I put my fish in right away. I do the father fish method (check his channel out). I have sand and potting soil underneath the sand and a crap ton of plants. The plants have been my savior. You need to get catappa leaves and always have them in stock at your house! I have several leaves in all my bettas’ tanks. My tangerine koi betta LOVES sleeping in between the catappa leaves. Do you have betta hammocks for them? 98% of the tank is natural but I did get some silicone and silk betta hammocks. I also have a betta tunnel which my tangerine koi betta is obsessed with!

    Real people advice.
    Add api quick start a bit above the recommended level, add aqua safe plus, throw in the fish and enjoy your crystal clear tank. May get ever so slightly cloudy, almost imperceptible on day two then be crystal clear. Dont remove more than 20% of the water or do water cleaning filter cleanings at the same time after. You are welcome.

    I recently converted a brackish tank to fresh by doing 50% water changes for three to four days. I checked the salinity lvl with a refractometer until I reached 1.00050 or so.
    Then I did a 100% water change and switched the substrate to a dirted arrangement with inert sand as a cap.
    The sand I used in the brackish tank was arragonite and had to be discarded.
    With the original filter and all original furnishings, awa tons of plants, is my tank cycled?

    If I setup my 3rd aquarium with potting soil and used water pulled from water changes of the other two tanks and a sponge filter from a current tank; do I need to wait to add my val, or can I throw it in on day one, or will an ammonia spike from the potting soil kill it?

    If I had cyanobacteria in my established tanks but have treated them, if I use plants or filter media from those tanks and put them in my new tank, am I in danger of spreading cyano to my new tank? Because I am not 100% sure the cyano has be completely eradicated from the old tanks? And if you get ammonia in the new tank can you just keep adding Prime and Stability to keep fish safe so the bacteria can grow feeding on the ammonia? Like not do too many water changes so the bacteria has something to feed on? Thank you, I look forward to your answer. 🙂

    • @A1A2A3L
      @A1A2A3L ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just a tip. In my experience add substrate and some high nutrients soil, then add a little water( like 2 to 4 cm of water. Let the soil settle for a bit and then add a small layer of sand. Make sure to rinse the sand first. Add water slowly then you will have a crystal clear water after a few hours. Add some bacteria. I kept my aquarium with plants and small fish for years without any major water change. Just dont add fish right away. Make sure the soil is layer is not too thin. Good soil, layer of sand on it so the soil doesnt cause cloudiness, plants then your good to go.

    I have a question about cycling using fish. Since during the first weeks the ammonia level may spike and is usually higher than 0 (which is the recommended level for any fish or shrimp), how do I introduce fish in the tank without killing them? Even Guppy, which is considered hardy, requires 0 ammonia.
    Thank you.

    • @averynbenson
      @averynbenson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You only want to add in ammonia when it gets close to 0PPM, and avoid overdosing ammonia >4PPM since you'll end up killing the bacteria that converts it into nitrite; aquariu.ms/article/1-the-nitrogen-cycle/#1d2146a8-fishless-cycling

    Wish I would have found you a month ago. New tank bought 3 weeks ago. Set it up and added chlorinator and a bacterial conditioner and used it according to the instructions from the fish store. Ran it for 3 days with just plants. Then added 3 tetras. After about 5 days added about 8 more fish and a couple of snails. Its week 3 my tank has developed Ich and all my fish are dying one by one. Including a beautiful Beta… I’m heartbroken and discouraged. Not sure if the Ich is killing them or the treatment. Where do I go from here?

    I am starting a new 110 gallon to upgrade from a 50 gallon. I have an established filter so I can borrow some used media (from a Fluval 407) to put in the new FX filter. My question is should I let the new filter run for a bit before I add the material to the new filter? Will the new water just kill the bacteria (it will have aqua safe in it). Will adding waste water help at all? There is poop, pee and food debris in it. I’ve heard that does nothing, but why not if it has all that in it? Because it comes from a cycled tank? I have no problem waiting a bit, but I want to do it right.

    If you need an idea for videos I've got a pretty good one.
    So I think the most popular videos for content creators is stocking ideas top 10 fish for a 20 gallon top 10 fish for a 40 breeder.
    However nobody talks about a top 10 ecosystem they list fish you can keep in certain aquariums but they don't list what fish can go together you know they don't they don't listen ecosystem we need a top 10 ecosystems and you have so many tanks that it'd be perfect for you you could really bust out a lot of those you know take like a 10 gallon which you have a whole wall of 10 gallons and just you know do different setups and make it a a the word like a template in aquarium ecosystem template when I was new I was desperately looking for this much more than just oh you can stick this fish and that tank it's more of like you can stick this fish and this fish with these plants and this Driftwood to make this ecosystem a template easy to use noob friendly templates top 10 ecosystem
