No. Some Americans do not like it when people take off their shoes in their home. They view socks and bare feet as dirtier than shoes. A neighbor I had as a kid had a rule that only women and children could take off their shoes in her home. This was because she viewed women's and children's feet as clean, and she saw men's feet a utterly filthy. She saw them as ugly as well. Shoes were preferred because she owned a good vacuum and cleaned her floor regularly.
Some Americans also view removing your shoes and too informal. That means that only guests who are spending the night are allowed to remove their shoes.
Always ask before removing shoes in someone's home. To do otherwise is a huge faux pas

Much of what Briggs said about Saudi Arabia is inaccurate - finger pointing is not frowned upon, shoes on or off is like everywhere else, but always off in mosques. The Saudis are particularly fond of Americans, unlike what he asserts, because many went to school here, have American citizen children (born while the parents were studying here), have every conceivable franchise, etc. Big cars, big freeways, etc. Taking photos is absolutely fine today - it was frowned upon about 30 years ago. I know - speak Arabic fluently, lived there for 9 years and have a home there now that I go to for 2-3 months a year.
The left hand issue is common throughout the Middle East. Never hand something to someone with your left hand - also if offered something, accept with your right hand, not your left. But - point away to your heart’s content.

Think they had a cheap flight that ran from here to Kamchatka for like 150 bucks. I don't think it was here in Anchorage specifically, but maybe it ran from Nome or Barrow/Utqiagvik. My memory is vague but I'm like 99% sure that was a thing back in the day.

The left hand is considered dirty in my parts of the Middle East and in India because the left hand used to be used to clean the butt before toilet paper. This is common in the poor areas in India even today.
Fun fact: in many languages the word for left comes the word sinister and thus evil. For this reason many left handed were forced to write and use their right hand in school in the past. I am G's age and I had an elementary school teacher in the 1970s who tried to force me to write with my right hand. She did not see me as evil, but she hated that I was left handed.
Fun fact #2: Left handed people tend to be smarter than right handed people. We make up about 10% of the world's population but we are more likely to become leaders and more successful because we must adjust to a right handed world.

Honestly . for about 99% of americans could care less if we are not welcomed in other countries , America is so big and has such a variety of things to see and visit , that by the time we visited all the places we have here to visit we would be too tired to go to other places. My momma always taught her children ... never go where you are not welcome but always be kind to strangers for by doing so you may be entertaining angels unaware. When foreigners come over and want to be snarky toward americans... how does that hurt us... But the next time they ask them to help them battle their enemy we may not feel so obliged to help.

Actually, he was tired of his people being taken advantage of via prostitution, gambling, lack of education, drugs all because of westerner’s dirty cravings. He turned the country around within a few years with the highest literacy rate on this side of the world. Creating the most doctors that are sent around the world to help others. In fact they offered help during 9/11 rescue but were denied. All went bad because of the cruel sanctions we imposed on them. He did a lot of good. I’m not saying he wasn’t a dictator and rid of his opponents. Yet he did good for his country.

It also boggles my mind when people go to a country without having done research into the laws and customs there beforehand. It doesn't matter how important you think you are. You do not deserve to be rescued for being stupid and oblivious. Got enough to worry about at home. But, you'll probably get bartered for and sent home pretty quickly anyways if you're looked at positively by the more progressive in society.
