Iowa Women’s basketball set a world record in Oct ‘23 for the largest attendance at a women’s college basketball game: 55,646 people. A basketball court was set up in the football stadium. Nebraska’s women’s volleyball did the same thing in Aug ‘23 when it set up a court in the football stadium. It got 92,003 attendees, making it the largest attendance for any women’s sporting event in the world.

That's my team! Grew up in Iowa City, love the Hawkeyes, and have been to Carver Hawkeye Arena many times. Caitlin is very talented and the whole team this year is just amazing!
She’s a great shooter. However, her PASSING and assists are awe inspiring. The Indiana Fever has the first pick of the WNBA draft. And Caitlin has declared for the draft. It occurs April 15th I think.
She improves any team she plays with. Her passing is also phenomenal. She threads the pass between opposing players and hits her teammate for an easy basket. No college player has more points, assists and rebounds than Catlin. She’s the complete package.
Iowa has sold out their home games (15,000) last two years and all but 2 away games this year. No 3 point for Pete but he took 44 shots a game. Caitlin takes 20.
Pete also took all twos so that inflates her numbers just a bit compared to Pete. And she had more time whereas Pete had the disadvantage of only being able to play 3 seasons.
@@TheIcemanthomasPeople know all of this. Like they observed, nobody in ncaa d-1 period, passed his total for over 50 years. Now that it's happened of course it's going to get noted. Lol .. uhhhh no.....go rewatch like any men's march madness.....the bench players on those teams would cook the fuck out of Clark in a regular one on one.
At second grade level, she had to play with Boy’s since there was no Girls team that age. Caitlin’s 3-point shot is like Steph Curry … Step back and Release (one motion) Basketball arenas have SOLD OUT this year, to watch her. Many young girls (high school, elementary ages) are attending - they want to play like Caitlin. That can transform women’s B-ball.
If the court is a lil bit dusty (hadn’t been mopped recently), when dust builds up on the bottom of your sneakers, then at the very least you’ll slide or at the worst you’ll get hurt. So players wipe the dust off, to maintain the integrity of the traction of their sneakers. I believe at these college gymnasiums, the floors are kept pristine. But when the players are coming up in their youth, playing on unkept dusty courts, they build up a habit, from years of wiping the dust off their sneakers. I believe that they don’t need to wipe their shoes, they do it out of habit.
Caitlin Clark is a basketball savant. She hit a 40 footer against Purdue this season that was disallowed because the refs thought she was fouled before the shot. Check out her NCAA Tournament highlights from last year.
Glad you blokes in the UK are seeing her talent. However, you just watched clips of her shooting - her nickname is "From the Logo" since her 3 range is frequently from the Tiger Hawk head or side logos. But her PASSING is EXTRAORDINARY! She has super court vision, knows angles and how to anticipate where her teammates will be. You need to watch a complete game and not just shooting highlights. For her career in college she has over 3000 points and 1000 assists, and I think around 900 rebounds now. She's high octane, elevates the play of her teammates (she is the ONLY 5 star recruit on the team, unlike other teams in the past that have won titles. We love her because she's the 'hometown' Midwest girl. WYSIWYG with her. And she'll be drafted by the Indiana Fever - another Midwest state that has ALREADY embraced her because Iowa plays in the same college conference as Indiana. Indiana is the state where historically the game of basketball was created. Iowa is the state where WOMEN's basketball was HUGE and supported YEARS before other states were on board. Iowa played a half-court 6 on 6 game. You had players separated into offensive & defensive players. It was in the late 1970's-1980's they transitioned to 5 on 5 full court like the men. Iowa is EXTREMELY PROUD of the unusual basketball tradition of the women's game and love seeing how the game has progressed. BTW - b-ball players wipe the bottom of their shoes after free throws and during time outs to remove any dust that might make the rubber of the sole slippery on the court surface. To keep good grip when you're running the court. Slipping is dangerous and potential injuries can occur. So players do this frequently. 😊
Caitlin is awesome. She played 130 games to beat Maravich’s record as Pistol Pete only played 83 without a 3 point shot at the time. As to you wondering if she could play in the NBA, I don’t believe she could as the man to man defense is much tougher and the men are so fast. But who knows, maybe she could. She deserves all the honors and respect for her great accomplishments!

You are completely correct about her elevating the popularity of women's basketball. Before Caitlin Clark, women's college basketball was pretty much dead. Since she's come around, everywhere she goes, the stadiums are packed and the crowds are roaring. She has completely revived women's college basketball.
@@areguapirithat may be correct, Iowa playing in front of sold out arenas on the road this season is unprecedented. Sunday's game hosting Ohio saw tv views max out over 4,200,000 highest women's rating ever.
As a Hawkeye fan since the 70's that moved to Canada in 2014 and moved back to Muscatine, Iowa in 2021, I watched every Hawkeye women's game since then that was available. And this year was able to go to Carver Hawkeye Arena and watch Caitlin play in person twice including her amazing buzzer beater against Michigan State! I live 40 minutes from Carver Hawkeye, and hope to watch her in the NCAA March Madness tourney in person. She broke Pistol Pete's record while shooting half as many shots per game as him but he didn't have the 3-point shot and played a lot less games. Just 2 legends, both amazing. She has at most 6 (hopefully) more games as a college player before going to the Indiana Fever to play in the WNBA. Because the Hawkeyes will be a number 1 seed they will play the first two games in the NCAA tournament at home in Carver. As long as they don't lose. There will never be another Caitlin Clark.
I played varsity point guard (backup), I did it for both reasons explained in the comment section when it came to swiping my shoes. It wasn't to dry off my hands though it was to use the dust to get a better grip on my sweaty hands. Same concept as applying chalk to your hands for climbing or gymnastics. It was also for better foot grip with the added moisture.
Pistol Pete played with no 3point line and no shot clock. It’s so impressive he scored as much as he did and the record held up even through the 3 point era. Teams would get a lead and play the 4 corners offense. Literally would bleed the clock by passing the ball around because there was no shot clock.
Aww. Should’ve reacted to the Michigan game where she broke the NCAAW record of Kelsey Plum. That had much better, deeper shooting. This actually a kind of “tame” game for her.
the indiana fever have the first pick this year and it most definitely will be caitlin. one of the reasons she is deciding to go to the wnba instead of another year at iowa is because the indiana fever have the pick and thats the closest team to her hometown.
Pistol Pete Maravich did play before they added the 3 point line. He averaged 44.2 points a game with no 3 point shot. He was a shooter too. The theory is that he would have scored 57 a night if they had a 3 point line. He only played 3 years in college brokw every scoring record. He went on to the nba and had a 11 yr career but injuries and no 3 point line till his final season and them not having specialist like him made him a avg nba guy that scored 13 a night. He died suddenly playing a pick up game at 40 in 1988. Heart defect. But those 3 yrs at LSU are the greatest scoring performance college basketball has ever seen.
AND he played for his daddy in a nearly all segregated conference, funny how people forget that and what Larry "Legend" told an NBA opponent not many years later, about how "disrespected he was"..... because they were playing a white guy on him on defense lol. Of course he'd be cancelled now if he said such a "horrible" thing
You should see her pass... Next video? She's going to be the #1 overall pick for the Indiana Fever this coming summer. The tournaments are starting. They'll be televised in the UK. You should watch her play. They are the most exciting team I've ever seen play. I am biased. I'm from Iowa City, but just watch them play!
Pistol Pete scored 44 points per game during his college basketball career. His freshman season he had 741 points that weren't counted towards his 3600 points because freshman weren't eligible to play on the varsity basketball team. No shot clock and no 3 point line back then. He will always be the greatest college player in my opinion. Congrats to Caitlin for breaking his scoring record.
Okay, so now that you've watched her shooting prowess you really need to watch a montage of her assists. People like to criticize her for being a ball hawk but when you really watch her game, what makes her so special is she can drive and score or drive and pass. Pick your poison. She is is just as great at seeing the floor and passing the ball off to an open teammate as she is taking a step back three pointer. And to answer your question, and in all fairness, when Pete Marovich played there wasn't a three point shot and I believe he scored his points in three years. No matter, Caitlin has been a great ambassador to women's basketball and I guarantee if you ask her, she hopes others will come along and make it even greater! She's a class act! Oh, and the Indiana Fever have the first pick in the draft.
She’s going to the #1 Basketball State in all of the USA….Indiana! My cousins from Virginia used to be shocked that Almost Every home in Indiana Had a Basketball Hoop …. I Remember bringing my basketball to Virginia as a kid and couldn’t find a hoop to shoot on! Lmao! Caitlyn is going to be drafted by the best Basketball State in USA (Indiana Fever)! Larry Bird had a hoop on his barn, dirt drive….. Everyone in Indiana has a hoop…doesn’t matter if you have to dribble on dirt or uneven pavement….We all have Hoops !
The players wipe their shoes mainly to clean the surface so they get perfect traction on the court. It’s a habit for players. They get dusty pretty quickly and will slide around. You always hear the squeaking of their shoes during a game. That’s when they’re getting good traction.
The Indiana Fever has the number one pick. They already said they are taking her. She is getting paid over a million dollars this year due to the NIL deal that now allows college players to get paid. She does commercials for State Farm Insurance.
Sabrina Ionescu was impressive at All Star Weekend. She put up 24, using the women's ball, but shooting from the Men's 3 point line. Steph beat her, but it was close. 24 was the tie breaker number for the first round of the Men's competition. 3 or 4 players had 24. Next year it's been proposed that Steph and Sabrina team up against Damien Lillard and Caitlin Clark. That would be amazing!
I will keep up with CC to see what she is doing and to see the crowd that she draws. I think CC and Aliyah Boston will make a great combo. CC will be dropping dimes to AB in the paint.
If you have the first round pick you always take the best player especially when its consensus number one. They sign an automatic two year contract with a club option to extend another two after, so it never really happens a player go to fight the team when they are locked for four years.
To answer Aiden's question, they didn't add the 3pt line until 1986 and Pistol Pete Maravic (played for LSU) who is in second place, played in the late 60's. There's a lot of pure shooters whose records would be MUCH higher if there was a 3pt line. Chris Mullin comes to mind. Not to take away from her amazing achievement and talent, but statistics are misleading. Like comparing NFL records when there were only 12 games compared to now when there are 17.
She will be drafted #1 to the Indianapolis Fever. She and the Hawkeyes have had almost all of the highest viewed games on tv all season. They also sell out all home games and all but two games on the road..for the entire season. It's must watch tv and mainly because of her. Most people think that she should have stayed in college for one more year but if she makes the WNBA Fever a sellout even once she'll have done what no one else could do.
Sabrina Ionescu is the women’s player that went against Steph Curry in the 3-point competition. She holds the record for triple-doubles, man or woman in her college career, and is a prolific scorer. She was also an Oregon Duck, go Ducks 🦆

What catlin clark has done is phenominal. No doubt about that. This all time scoring record is tricky, rhough. Caitlin has played for 4 years, 130 games, and has a 3 point line. Pete maravich played in an era when freshmen could not play on the varsity team, instead relegated to an all freshman team. That was the ncaa rules then. He played on the varsity team for 3 years, 83 games, and did not have a 3 point line and his record stiĺl stood for 54 years until caitlin broke it. I am old enough to have seen maravich in his prime and as great as caitlin is(and she is truly great!!), pete maravich is STILL the best pure shooter i have ever seen. He and caitlin share phenominal passing skills, but pete was also a phenominal ball handler. Outside of the harlem globetrotters who 's forte is being tricky with the basketball whether it is dribbling, passing, or shooting, i have never seen another basketball player who could handle the ball as maravich. The one aspect fo his game that was not the very best ever was his defensive play, but why bother with defense when you can outscore your opponent at will? Caitlin clark is a MUCH better defensive player than maravich.
Women's basketball is more like the game that was played 100 years ago. It's a "below the rim" world. For the men, it's an "above the rim" game and looks very different.
Im old, 78 and grew up following College ball. Great George Town, Syracuse etc. And watched everythin Pistol Pete Maravich and CC broke his Points record for 4 full yrs. I will argue that Pete was a better ball handler over all.
The reason basketball players are constantly wiping their hands on their shoes is to wipe any dust off the bottom of the shoe so they don't slip and potentially get injured. I do not know who started it but it had to be a NBA player. For an example of how far down it carried.... my nephew, who plays in AAU and on his High School teams, has been doing it since he was 7 or 8 years old! It is something that became cool to do but wholly unnecessary as the courts are kept pretty much dust free during games. My nephew says he wets his hands with spit and wipes his shoes to give him extra grip on the floor. i do not know if this is true. My dad played Division 1 college ball and I played throughout my High School years. Yet neither of us ever worried about dust or extra grip as it related to our shoes. That, Aidan, is a long and twisted take on why you see players wipe their hands on their shoes. Cheers. Scott Ritchie

But CC has a surprisingly high 3PT percentage from beyond 25 feet. She also passes almost as good as Larry Bird too. She is as complete of an *offensive* player that has ever been seen in women's college basketball.
the women's game plays with a smaller basketball than the men do. I don't think she'd shoot as good in the NBA as opposed to the WNBA. Also, there was no 3 pt shot when Pistol Pete Maravich was playing , and freshmen were prohibited from playing varsity sports , so his scoring record was set in basically 3 yrs opposed to at least 4 for Caitlyn,, so it really is a comparison of apples to oranges , but both are the best there is/was. I remember a game started between two women's teams where a men's size basketball was used by mistake, neither team could make a shot, it was hilarious when the error was discovered after a few minutes into the game.

According to her Wikipedia page, they say that for the unprecedented amount of attention she brought to women's basketball will be known as the "Caitlin Clark Effect"
Don’t start no mess it want be none. Don’t compare her accolades to Pistol’s. It’s a different game.
Pete also took all twos so that inflates her numbers just a bit compared to Pete. And she had more time whereas Pete had the disadvantage of only being able to play 3 seasons.
@@TheIcemanthomasBoohoo
@@TheIcemanthomasPeople know all of this. Like they observed, nobody in ncaa d-1 period, passed his total for over 50 years. Now that it's happened of course it's going to get noted. It doesn't mean anybody is 'comparing' anyone or anything. It baffles me how people get so defensive over this, it's silly.
She's not just the best female college basketball player ever, she's the best college basketball player ever.
Lol .. uhhhh no.....go rewatch like any men's march madness.....the bench players on those teams would cook the fuck out of Clark in a regular one on one.
Lifelong Hawkeye fan...I was at this game!!! 🖤💛🖤💛🖤
Hawks by a milll-ion!
Damn, she knocked down a solo free throw for the record. Nerves of steel.
At second grade level, she had to play with Boy’s since there was no Girls team that age.
Caitlin’s 3-point shot is like Steph Curry … Step back and Release (one motion)
Basketball arenas have SOLD OUT this year, to watch her.
Many young girls (high school, elementary ages) are attending - they want to play like Caitlin.
That can transform women’s B-ball.
They touch the bottom of their shoes to wipe away dust on the shoes so the shoes stay grippy with traction on the floor
Most players do it out of habit. I did it when I played and had no reason to do it or did I realize I was doing it until I watched film the next day.
It's a bad habit. They are wiping urine and poop.
Sabrina Ionescu is the player that did the 3-point challenge with Steph. You guys should react to that if you can, I thought it was fun.
and lost lol
When you see greatness you know it. She gets a ton of assists and rebounds as well. Complete game.
Went from 7-800,000 viewers to 1,700,000 viewers for the Allstars game 3.2 million viewers.. 7,000 fans in the stands to venue changes to accommodate 20,000.
Caitlin Clark has football legs with insane basketball mechanics.
You are completely correct about her elevating the popularity of women's basketball. Before Caitlin Clark, women's college basketball was pretty much dead. Since she's come around, everywhere she goes, the stadiums are packed and the crowds are roaring. She has completely revived women's college basketball.
Wrong. Women's basketball has had high attendance for decades now.
@@areguapirithat may be correct, Iowa playing in front of sold out arenas on the road this season is unprecedented. Sunday's game hosting Ohio saw tv views max out over 4,200,000 highest women's rating ever.
@@areguapiri Yeah that's just not true at all.
Ayyyyyyy. Finally getting to the GOAT. Caitlin freaking Clark
I've been following her career for a couple years & yeah she the truth
Pistol Pete played with no 3point line and no shot clock. It’s so impressive he scored as much as he did and the record held up even through the 3 point era. Teams would get a lead and play the 4 corners offense. Literally would bleed the clock by passing the ball around because there was no shot clock.
He also shot 44 times a game. Don't get me wrong, I love Pete. We shouldn't be comparing men to women in sports.
Damn!
@bobboyoop1141 true and Caitlin played against women. Soooo...
Indiana Fever!!
THE Basketball State!
Don't know how good of a player he really was when the SEC conference in his era still practiced segregation in sports, including basketball.
She didn’t break his record. The NCAA doesn't recognize them as the same sport.
Her play just reminds me so much of Larry Bird!
You should check out some of her passing highlights, too. She is not only the best scorer, she is also the best passer.
She set the all time college record for most points scored out of women AND men!! Out of ALL colleges!!!
Indiana Fever is taking her #1 overall. They won the lottery pick for #1 in this years draft, for the 2nd year in a row. Let’s go FEVER!
I will keep up with CC to see what she is doing and to see the crowd that she draws. I think CC and Aliyah Boston will make a great combo. CC will be dropping dimes to AB in the paint.
NOT MENTION Indiana has already had a spike in sales for the upcoming season's tickets!
She was number 1 draft pick for the Indiana fever in the WNBA and has broke records for all time men and women scores
I never touched the bottom of my shoes before free throw shots, ... and I played basketball in both HS and college.
If you have the first round pick you always take the best player especially when its consensus number one. They sign an automatic two year contract with a club option to extend another two after, so it never really happens a player go to fight the team when they are locked for four years.
If you a close look at how she plays, then watch Larry Bird play 🤯🤯 She plays almost exactly like him.
Moment or a new movement. Go girls.
Her shooting is only half of her skill set. Look at her transition assist video's. The passes she makes are just as amazing.
If she tried playing in the nba it would probably go about as well as England’s best female player 22 or under playing in the premier league.
Indiana Fever, Just like it's not the Indianapolis Pacers😂
Sabrina Ionescu is the women’s player that went against Steph Curry in the 3-point competition. She holds the record for triple-doubles, man or woman in her college career, and is a prolific scorer. She was also an Oregon Duck, go Ducks 🦆
You all should check out dalton knecht from Tennessee. He just led Tennessee to the SEC championship and probably a number one seed in the tournament.
The scary part is ,honestly, the game hasn’t even slowed down for her yet.once she adapts to the next level of speed the sky’s the limit
Pure talent"love it"🌹🌷👍
This is whom LSU women beat last year in College Basketball Championship in March Madness in 2023 .also check out the National Championship LSU vs Iowa Hawkeyes ,and what was going on between LSU Angel Reese and Iowa Caitlin Clark.
Reese is so overrated she’s not even the best player or leader on her team
@@luk35kywalk3r8 Agreed. Overrated. Horrible personality. In her mind, she thinks she’s a Taylor Swift or Beyoncé, when she should be nothing more than a backup singer at best, or should stick to karaoke singing in her basement.
Touching the bottom of the shoes is to gain traction. Basketball courts can be as slippery as an ice rink. Gaining traction is needed
React to the national championship LSU vs Iowa women’s from last year great game!!!!!!
sabrina ionescu (Go DUCKS) was the Caitlin before Caitlin. she did have the contest with steph, where steph won although they both shot from the Mens 3 point line. Sabrina got 26 points which tied Damian lillards score that won the 3 point contest. but when it came to steph she lost. and after being on the court for a while the bottom of shoes can get dusty, a lot of people when coming into the game step on a slightly damp mat then on to the court to have clean shoes, but if you're on for a long period of time they wipe them off with hands. also just kind of a thing you do and not even realize it
Can shoot 3 pts from the logo. It’s not even her 3 pt shots that’s most impressive it’s her ball handling and play making. She’s a point guard at 6 ft. Like magic johnson and Steph curry in one person. Also South Carolina had a 6’7” tall player and Caitlin just run rings around. Don’t underestimate womens basketball, they got talented bunch.
Wipe the bottom of your shoes and it gives your shoes a good grip
lol..lol..😂
Watch her highlights
5:09 they touch bottom of shoes to get sweat off hands.
... and get doodoo and peepee on their hands from the bottom of their shoes.
But those lady Buckeyes uniforms are sweet!!!
Im old, 78 and grew up following College ball. Great George Town, Syracuse etc. And watched everythin Pistol Pete Maravich and CC broke his Points record for 4 full yrs. I will argue that Pete was a better ball handler over all.
You touch the bottom of your shoes to make them have more grip. The floor gets dusty throughout the game.
It's to dry your hands before you touch the ball again if you're sweating. And then it becomes a happe.
She’ll be In Indiana Soon! Go Fever!
You have to dust off the bottom of your shoes when you’re able to….Keeps you from sliding later.
It’s for traction.

There is ZERO footage of Larry Bird ever doing that. You just told a huge lie.
If you're impressed by her shooting, check out highlights of her passing.
A lot of the problem with her being a good shooter in the NBA is that she would have to come off of screens. In Women's College that would mean that a tall, slower lady would have to come out to guard her. But in the NBA that would be Wemby.
You wipe the bottom of your shoes to wipe dust off while you have a chance. When you do that you get much better traction on the court for a little while anyways
It's a very bad habit these young players have. Doctor J and Larry bird never wiped doodoo and peepee off of the bottom of their shoes during games.
@@areguapiriI'm guessing you've never played on an actual basketball court then?

There are some very good players, but let's be honest: CC has range that no one else does. No one else is consistently shooting from 28 feet like her. They would be benched. But CC has a surprisingly high 3PT percentage from beyond 25 feet. She also passes almost as good as Larry Bird too. She is as complete of an *offensive* player that has ever been seen in women's college basketball.
They wipe the bottom of their shoes for a bit of extra traction/grip on the hardwood floor.
Please react to South Carolina women’s basketball college Aaliyah Boston
6:00 no there was no 3 point line than.
then
the women's game plays with a smaller basketball than the men do.
They wipe the dust off their shoes for more grip and less slide.
