Yeah, good point about how controversial these can be. I mean, who's more famous from America, Elvis or Michael Jackson? Some might say neither and pick Michael Jordan or something, because they're a sports fan. But apparently it's Ben Franklin? I would have picked Lincoln or Washington before Franklin, though his inventions and contributions to science and literature can't bve overstated. I would have guessed Bono for Ireland. Iraq is ancient but its history is incredibly turbulent and it's been through tons of change for a long time now. It's pretty complicated. I agree 100% with you on Mugabe. Until the war, I would have said the most famous Ukrainian was Vitali Klitschko. I would say Cleopatra for Egypt, not Nefertiti. Or perhaps King Tut. Cleopatra was born in Alexandria, Egypt.

Most of the Middle Eastern countries are not that old. They are the result of the British and American governments splitting up the defeated Ottoman Empire after World War 1. Iraq as common people and culture is thousands of years old, but as a country, it’s about 100 years old. The lines were redrawn after World War 2 for many Middle Eastern countries as well as the type of government they currently are changed over the years too.
The same somewhat goes for Alexander the Great. There was no Greece as a country. It was a region with a common people, culture, and language. In reality, Alexander the Great was from the city state of Macedon, which had a separate governance from Athens, Crete, Sparta, etc.

Benjamin Franklin!! No stinkin' way. Ole Abe is much more likely, but I'd think someone from popular culture would be likely. Michael Jackson, maybe. I even considered Elvis. He gets overlooked a bit but I think he's still recognizable. I'm probably inclined toward Elvis because my sister is a huge fan and one of the great regrets of her life is that she never got to see him live. All the kids in our family learn who Elvis is very quickly, so knowing that 2 and 3 year olds know who he is but wouldn't have a clue about Michael Jackson definitely sways me.

Daddy Yankee is the most famous person from Puerto Rico? How about Rita Moreno or Joaquin Phoenix?
Iraq was a part of the Ottoman Empire. It became an independent kingdom in 1932, and a republic in 1958. It was politically unstable for years after that. Saddam Hussein took over in a coup in 1979 and declared himself president. Given the history, it's easy to see how there were only four presidents before him.
Ben Franklin is certainly not the most famous person from the U.S. He's not even the most famous historical person from the U.S. If you showed a picture of Franklin to someone in, say, Nigeria, they probably wouldn't have any idea who it was.

For me being from So Cal, most famous American would be Abraham Lincoln or Walt Disney, although Henry Ford or Thomas Edison would be up there. Most famous person from my high school would be a toss up between Billie Jean King, George Takei, Cameron Diaz or Snoop Dogg. Most famous person from my graduating class, definitely Snoop Dogg. Most famous people from my college: Steven Spielberg, Steve Martin, Karen and Richard Carpenter. All my opinions, however, as you say. Egypt I'd have said King Tut. If the issue of having parents from different countries is ambiguous as you guys pointed out, I'd have said Sade for Nigeria lol! China would have been Confucius or Mao Tsedong. Britain definitely the Queen, but also Winston Churchill, Shakespeare or Margaret Thatcher. Ireland, I'd have said Sinaed O'Connor, either Tom Jones or Englebert Humperdinck for Wales. Daz jokingly said no one famous from Scotland, if I remember right. How about Sheena Easton? And where is Annie Lennox from? Scotland or Ireland? (Can't remember lol)

An American fan and viewer here, hello. Unfortunately, I would have to argue that Donald Trump is the most famous American. For good or bad, I don't see that as anything other than fact. Now I'd like to give my personal opinion. This might be an unconventional answer, but hear me out. I would argue that the most famous American, or at least should be considering the impact on everyone's daily lives, is one of the big software CEOs e.g. Bill Gates, or Steve Jobbs. Unfortunately, I live in reality, where Donald Trump is the most famous American even post his term in office.
Closing thought. Not a person. Everyone knows who Scooby-Doo is.

Some of these are wrong. Andre the Giant has nothing to do with Bulgaria as far as I know. From Bulgaria except Stoichkov maybe Berbatov as well is the most famous, or Nina Dobrev.

First of all, Ben Franklin was never President let alone the 6th President (John Quincey Adams)--what mo-ron put this together? The most famous US person? Well, would have to be Muhammed Ali--at one point for about a two-decade period, he was the most famous person in the entire world-- and that was when there was nothing like what we have now for media exposure. With all due respect to QEII who had a very long run of fame, couldn't one make a case that for quite a while The Beatles were more famous? Being from the US, The Beatles were much more widely known than QEII, but that is just here.
