Duuuude, I LOVE the starting sequences! Those views and the feeling to really go into the ship, start it up, slowly start and then speeding up through the atmosphere.. I mean, that’s the dream right there. Thanks for your great content
Honestly, I'm 67 and retired high action is a little difficult as multi functioning is not as easy as it once was. I just bought this game and I working toward becoming a miner. As it seems chill.
@ i feel so chuffed with myself when i break the rocks and get to load up my cargo ship, I tend to use the Lorville TDD because it’s one short train trip away from the spaceport to sell my wares, I can’t wait for the release of ore grades for armour and weapons and building materials so I can become a merchant or mined materials haha
Another excellent mining video! So zen and chill. I find mining like this is the perfect activity after a long workday to just decompress. Save the min-maxing for an org op later on and just enjoy flying!
I just love the mining loop, mining - refining - hauling ... really my thing. Just did around 3 hours of mining on Sunday and 4 hours of hauling the refined ore around Stanton on Thuesday, I am even considering getting the Prospector myself instead of renting it, maybe around the IAE
This is why I love mining - so many different ways to engage in the profession. You are making multiple decisions about loadout, and min/maxing, and it requires experience and skill to crack tough rocks. With the mole it gets real fun cracking huge rocks with 30 SCU of quantanium with a team.
The optimal window size has been increased quite a bit in 4.0. Mining has become generally easier and much more enjoyable. That microscopic optimal window was just bad game design and some of us got used to it.
It's not very profitable in terms of time, trading is faster if you have a ship with 120+ SCU, mining should be buffed, because it's a job that takes a lot of time and action, but almost does not reward you for it
@@lewisbenzie845 So not a bug ;P Thank you very much for clarification. Still, looks a bit strange to me that, after scanning, you have some values shown... which are thrown out of a window during actual mining... totally not confusing ;P
Farrister, what HOTAS are you using? I tried many in the past and I settled for dual VKB sticks with the omnithrottle on the left one. They're great, have a professional and premium feeling for the price and it's as far as I am willing to comfortably spend on sticks. Also, have you ever made a video about yout fleet/ships? Much appreciation from Brazil.
I've only now realised what your ingame handle is and I've recently called an elevator on MIC-L1 (i use it as my homebase) that was on your hangar (i remember because i chuckled when i saw that name)
Have you tried packing other mining heads and modules in the Prospector to swap out in the field? With freight elevators and port unlocks, I wonder if miners entertained the idea of swapping parts?
Used to do this with both Prospector and Mole ways back. From pilot seat unlock all ports and you can swap them with tractor. Always carried some extra modules back when exploding rocks often took them off. And if you ran out of active module charges could swap new one on the run. (Currently the active modules are broken.) I bet the on the run module/head etc swapping becomes bigger thing with Arrastra since you can go on longer with that ship. Refine and store the minerals while mining. Can't wait to fly that ship, hopefully soon next year 🙂
It is alright to min/max rocks for now, but I am looking forward to when crafting and base building are here and you will probably need all sorts of minerals.
I would really like to be able to decide for myself how much refined ore I want to load into which freight containers... so that I can properly organize and sort my warehouse using a sensible UI
I restored most (if not all) of the 3.23 key bindings. I'm not interested in the weapon group switching or precision mode and had more important functions I could bind to those buttons and the mouse wheel.
@@Farrister Yeah, I have a text file with the key binds I changed, in the order they appear in settings, that way I can do it on auto-pilot in a couple of minutes :D One day I may offer my services to CIG to sort out their key bind mess!
I've been renting the Prospector trying to make one pay for its purchase. I can't seem to put different heads or modules on it though. Is it possible or just need a bug workaround? Besides trying to overcome the storage bags glitches, I really enjoy mining.
Never. Aron Belt is so large there's zero chance you'll be disturbed, even mining in the L1-5 belts is pirate free. Also not really profitable pirating a miner.
That is the problem, if your doing some solitary mining there are a few adjustments to your routine that might help can do. You could start by fitting out your ship with ''Stealth Components'', also don't fly direct to to a Planet/Moon, fly in a roundabout fashion, as you'll then not get ganked by campers, and if you have Cargo/Ore definately do it. Also when you come out of quantum fly down manually to the surface, head to a remote spot. Oh! and transfer your medical ID to the nearest station to your fav mining/salvage spot, it will save all that laborious travel time.
CIG really needs to work on the time/payout balance. Some activities are just not really worth it if you are 'grinding' towards a goal. I think it would be cool to have an EvE style mission type where you are requested to go out and mine and bring the resources back, all the extra stuff is yours to refine and sell.
This min Max will stop when Base building. I bet the extra time for Qt may be for when you have to manually unload the bags yourself like other cargo , or when they bring in a refinery ship. and I still dont understand why you can not load your ship from a refinery it should move the stock to your hanger.
"Quantanium goes boom" ... i ve seen my mole goes boom with more than 30 scus while it was being moved to storage in the hangar. Twice. That hurts sooo much
Could u PLEEEEEEEASE make a top 25 ships of your choice? I am new to the game and would love to see ur opinion and get some tips what ships would be good to pick
Whenever they make these resources something that people need to build bases and crafting, when these resources are in demand by other players, I'm quitting my job.
@Farrister i knew that you would understand! When resources have this kind of value in the game, my real-world career will only be getting in the way of my dream career: space mining. My wife will just have to get out there and get a job to support us. She's had it way to good for waaay too long. 😂
could you maybe do a redo of some old video's? since 3.24 a lot has changed how ship fly and the speed etc. so could you maybe make a new video about the 400i or other ships that got a nerf/buf?
As long as we can't actually deliver the refinery jobs to the cargo elevator and then chose Box size taking the lower grade materials is really not making you money. It's hurting you immensely. Because while yes you don't need to load it into your ship. You'll have to unload it into the cargo elevator where you wan't to sell it. And while it's not so bad in your prospector bag if you fill up your cargo ship with tier 3 materials you'll have to spend a lot more time trucking. Which isn't as fun as mining. So saying it's not min maxing well yes but also ufff. You just created so much more work at the rear end of the gameloop for almost no pay.
For whatever reason, mining just seems so calming as a game loop. Great video….

I would recommend salvage as well. It’s relaxing like mining but pays significantly better. Especially if you can join a reclaimer crew.
This is my favourite game loop
Love it!

ANOTHER Farrister goodie for our eyes and ears. Truly a blessing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I recently had the opportunity to go mining with a group in a Mole. It was a great time. I can see the appeal. Thanks for sharing this, Farrister!

Thanks for reminding me. I've got close to 100scu sitting in a refinery waiting to be picked up. I'd better do that next login.
Be quick!

Just to say love your video and the icebreaker paint came out in Christmas last year. It was one of the 12 Days Of Christmas have a many days it was.
I really miss the mining head being on a gimbal. It was always so enjoyable to “feel” for the sweet spot on a rock.

Felt the same with Hauling… took me 30 Minutes to do a Medium Haul (96SCU) with Conni Aquila and the Exo-Suit-Haul-Thingy.
Got 14k…
I'm sure it will all be rebalanced, I spend the time doing the things I enjoy
Love the strat. Never realized mining at the station was so viable and chill.
Sorry for the noob question, but why @3:32 optimal window decreases just after starting laser?
It's responding to the rocks variable resistance.
@@lewisbenzie845 So not a bug ;P

Still, looks a bit strange to me that, after scanning, you have some values shown... which are thrown out of a window during actual mining... totally not confusing ;P
It's because of my choice of mining head and module. I chose power, and the tradeoff for that is reduced optimal window size

I'm using a Virpil Constellation Alpha, with a Virpil CM3 Throttle. And I do have a 'fleet' video, I usually update it every December...
I got in the prospector today after watching this video and the MFDs were different (yet again) from what yours are in this video.
Also wish they would add markers we can set so we can go back to panels or rocks
I really want a Prospector/Hull A hybrid with alot more storage
fr
Fun idea! Or just a big rack on the back for extra ore pods, but you gotta actually get out of the ship to swap them by hand xD
The best thing you can do is put the mole bags on the prospector for "48SCU" or half the Mole's capacity.
@@snowwann273 Yeah but Id prefer a 100 m long Prospector with 50 Saddlebags :D
@@Farrister Yup :D
Or just make bags usable in a cargo grid :D
So you can take your empties from your hauler and slap em on your Prospector

You can't swap rented ship weapons/components
It's because it's rented, I think
Yes, you can’t change any equipment on rental ships.
How often do you run into unwelcome PvPers that interfere with your solitary gameplay loop?

Extremely rarely, but if I see somebody I just run
Please CIG add the ability to map/tag as you go so you can come back to rocks passed up if you dont find what you are looking for!

I made 3 mil going for a quanity over quality. CRU L1 has more borase and agaricum around it. 20 to 30 loads in the refinery.
