Building the Best Damn GMC Motorhome Ever E.8 - Fixing the leaking is a bigger job than expected.

  • When the sealant fails on the roof-to-siding trim pieces the roof becomes an unintentional water collection system leaking inside the coach. Time to dig into this problem remove those, and reseal them. Also, I discover that the motorhome can pop out of park without the key in the ignition, and because the e-brake doesn't seem to work, there is nothing stopping the rig from rolling downhill except the chock blocks!

To keep heads from snapping off use lots of penetrating oil like PB blaster and tighten the bolt first and then loosen. It may seem counterintuitive but it works.

Use a small diameter punch to push the broken screw through the aluminium. They will pop through. Re-tap with the next larger screw size and put Stainless screws back in. I have done this on 4 coaches.

    Once again loving the channel.
Jim once said to remove the screws
    1) insert phillips head and tap with hammer several times
    2) slightly tighten first
    3) then loosen

Great Job... Not too many people putting up videos of repairs or restorations of the GMC Motorhomes.. Some by Jim Bounds and others... Me.. I have done a lot to mine.. But has been light compared to yours.. BUT complete rebuild of my engine now is underway do to it blowing up.. If you get EFI.. Fitech.. Make sure the shop knows what they are doing...

You need 3 bits smaller carbide bits to start pilot holes and increase diameter as you go

I'm thinking those bolts may have come out easier if you would have sprayed it with kroil or some similar and even grease and heated up a bit. I have broken a few myself. Never fun.

Other GMC trucks of era use same Bush ings get an exploded parts manual and reference numbers for buy at parts counter...better than the inflated. Rv stores

You should have used a left-handed drill bit. I tried to use a left-handed bit on a broken bolt, and it ended up unscrewing the rest of the bolt with no damage to the rest of the structure.

You said that those aren’t that special or rare or something ..... are you kidding ?
The gmc motorhome is one of a kind. Nothing else like it was ever made. Very cool, and very unique. Only made them for three years, and every one was made to be unique. Even if it was only the paint job.

Sounds like a plan, but make sure you give me that sweet sweet internet love/validation once I've jumped high enough for you to find me worthy. I'm absolutely reliant on people like you for my own self worth. Wouldn't it be stupid if I was doing this project for myself, and my family? What kind of dumb-ass would take twice as long to do the project because he was filming all the steps so that he could share with strangers on the internet so that they could experience something interesting? The professional TH-camrs are doing it so much better by treating it like it's a job and making videos at a pace and about subjects that people will watch, but which the creator doesn't actually care about. Making videos about real things at the pace of real life is such a stupid waste of time! These "Watch people die inside" or "I built a rocket powered grocery cart" videos are so much better! The name of this site is actually really dumb "TH-cam" Pfffft! Like anyone wants to watch other real people do stuff. th-cam.com/video/pXRviuL6vMY/w-d-xo.html
