    The main reason why you all missed is because when you fire the balls, you have actually shifted the barrel shafts when you hold and push the trigger. In real world situation, windage and elevation of the ground of the target also contribute to accuracy.

      🥲🥲🥲 no wonder.

      @@JustKeepThinking The theory is same as firing a gun. When you squeeze the trigger, at that moment you might have displaced your aim. That is why for precision aiming (as in a sniper shot), we will pull the trigger slightly and hold when we hit the first trigger pressure point, hold and fine tune our aim sights on the target, before pulling the trigger through, we call the double action. Similarly in real world situation for artillery, a stable base and the mode of triggering plays a roll in the accuracy of the hit.

    aiyo next time wear a more suitable outfit so the cameraman don't have to avoid certain angles lol

    We just follow instructions and do the hard labour. Don't really need to know how the thing works.

    There are other factors affecting accuraccy. If I'm not wrong artillery shells are fired through rifled barrels these days, rifled barrels impart a spin to the projectile which makes them stay straighter. PVC pipes were used here as the barrel so no spin there. Also you guys used tennis balls, in barrels which were probably slightly poorly fitted for them, so essentially the tennis ball is bouncing up down left right all the way down the barrel. Where it flies finally depends on where its last bounce was in the barrel before it left the barrel. Last but not least I was appalled at the amount of jiggle the rig had. it jiggled as you pressed the trigger. I would have liked to see a more rigid device to determine the angle (something adjusted with a screw perhaps), and a trigger that would not jiggle the whole rig when activated.
    That's why Cpt Chia said it was "good enough". Any gooder would have depended on luck, and other skills not typically associated with an artillery gunner (like pressing the trigger gently while maintaining angle).
    Also, unlike sniper rounds, artillery shells don't rely on hitting dead center in order to work. They rely on landing somewhat near the target to have an effect. That said, artillery rounds are fired from way out of range at insane ranges, to the point where the earth has curved away and it's physically impossible for you to see the target.
    Not bad. I think this was a fun video. I feel like a bit more emphasis could have been put into the thought process into the math and kinematics of it. Perhaps a voiceover from either party to explain the thought process just a little. Some explanation perhaps for the young 'uns who might be watching. But still a fun video nonetheless.

    I think SAF should invest in modern precision cutting edge technology like precision guided shells. The only thing to note is if our FH-2000 howitzers can fire such shells. With precision guided projectiles, there is a GPS mounted on the shell tip and fins at the end that will guide the round to hit the target once it is in the air. Gone should be the days when the observer will feedback hits or miss and compensation data to the field command and then to the gunners. If we miss the first shot, the enemy will have been alerted. Artillery fire is one of the major attack mode that cannot be intercepted, and it plays a crucial roil in neutralizing and eliminating enemy targets efficiently. We should also be relying on modern digital global positioning systems like satellite images and GPS to help locate the target.

      not sure if the SAF actually have precision-guided shells, but I do know the US and many NATO countries use the Excalibur, a type of laser-guided shells.

    • @Unteroffizier
      @Unteroffizier 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@captainbroady Yes, i am also not sure if our FH-2000 (or other related weapons we have) can fired such precision guided shells. Look at what the Russians are doing with their old outdated weapons, causing mass unnecessary destruction to Ukraine. If we were to attack our enemies i will sure want to precisely hit military or high value targets causing minimal loss to lives and people's properties. When we don't hurt civilians, it will give them one less reason to band up and retaliate.

      Might be difficult for the FH-2000, because the fins will impede movement through the barrel. The flick rammer design also needs to be changed to accomomade the fins. I think the same goes for the SLWH Pegasus also, minus the flick rammer.

    • @Unteroffizier
      @Unteroffizier 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shastasilverchairsg I am not sure. Maybe the fins are retracted when shipped. The fins spring out after being fired out of the muzzle.

    now Imagine you are a Battle Ship gunner...
    firing off a round off a boat.
    add in more calculations like a moving boat etc
    while fighting off aliens like in that movie.
    or firing off shells from a flying plane like the gunship varient of the C-130.

      The idea is to Bombard the coastline when it is occupied by enemy forces crossing the strait. Obviously there’s only 1 country where this is a possibility, but thankfully we are on good terms now.
