    Great video and very thorough step-by-step! You'll always have the guys that say you could have done this and you could have done that but the fact of the matter is that it is your car and you put the effort in doing it yourself. Knowing things may not always turn out to be perfect but it all turned out great in my opinion!! And that's whats it all about, doing things yourself and having fun whilst doing it.
    I recently bought a 2012 gt and thought of doing the engine cover and the coil covers. So i found this video very helpful! Thumbs up to you!

    Looks great! Cars these days are harder and harder to customize. You have to buy add ons that everyone else can buy.
    You and I come from a different generation of “Car guys.”
    Keep it up! I’ve lived Mustangs since my parents had a 65’ when I was a kid. My first car was a 65’ and later an 85’ when I got back from overseas. I hope to get another 65’ as my final driver.

    Nice job looks great bill keep up the good work.the reasoning behind spraying the clear on the wht areas before painting them white is just for removing any overspray that can occur on the already red areas?

    • @billfraught
      @billfraught  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kolour Blind Yep... That is absolutely right...Remember when you are painting those letters or stripes on the coil covers, to NOT wait and just get two coats down pretty fast so it doesn't dry on you. Then take your rag with that Testor Airbrush thinner and start to wipe in one direction and turn your rag often and keep it moist with the thinner. Don't worry , you will be successful.. Good Luck

    +Bill Fraught How much paint did you end up using? Did you need to use 2 cans of paint per application? (Primer, Color, Clear)?

    • @billfraught
      @billfraught  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Focus Mode For the MAIN Color, in my case, Red, I used about 1.5 Can. For the minor colors, i.e. the lettering and strips that I did in WHITE, I used one can. The Primer, I used 1 Can, and for the clear coat, about one can. Remember at least two coats, but DON'T drown it. Just nice shallow coats, and let them completely dry between each coat. About 30 to 40 Minutes, When you do the last coat of PAINT, let that set up overnight, then do your clear coat the next morning. Good Luck and don't rush it. You will succeed. Grandpa Bill. Austin, Tx.

      +Bill Fraught I can't find Testors airbrush thinner anywhere, including at Hobby Lobby. All anyone has is Testors Enamel Thinner. Is that the same stuff?

    • @billfraught
      @billfraught  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Focus Mode Yes it is hard to find at Hobby Lobby. They don't have it by the Model Airplanes or Model Paint,... They have a separate section, usually at an end cap, for Airbrush stuff. You need to ask one of the little old ladies, where the airbrush painters and supplies are, and it is on the bottom shelf by the floor. I don't know if Enamel Thinner and Airbrush thinner are the same, but since they are two different products, my guess is that they ARE NOT the same... but I could be wrong. I think airbrush thinner is for acrylic paints, and Enamel thinner is for Enamel type of paints.

      +Bill Fraught Maybe since this is Engine "Enamel" paint it should be fine? I will give it another look, but if I don't find it maybe I will have to just be very detailed with my taping.

      iMoto Photography maybe, but the air brush thinner is less powerful, and won't take off the under paint

  • @RideOrDrive718

    maybe I missed something so only prep was cleaning and primer and after painting no sanding or clear? By the way amazing results on the painting.

    • @billfraught
      @billfraught  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. U are right, I didn't do sanding but check video at mark 4:57, that's where
      I show you the can of clear coat. I'm not good at wet sanding so I didn't want to
      risk screwing up what I had already done, which looked pretty good to me.
      So I let it sit overnight, then put on the clear.
      Thanks for the questions. Good luck. You can do it just don't rush and you will be happy with
      the results.

      Yeah, I mean whatever he did, they came out great. I'm planning on doing mine over memorial weekend.. lol

    • @billfraught
      @billfraught  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok go to part 20:38 in my video. There I explain that I can't make up my mind to put tape between each letter,
      OR just put one LONG piece of tape on each side of the letters. I decided that taping each letter would drive me
      Crazier then I'm already am!! So you need to put a piece of long tape on each side of the letters" Powered by
      Ford" then cover the rest of the cover with your towel, then spray with the white paint for your letters.
      DoNot Let It DRY!! Then grab your towel that has the special thinner on it, REMOVE the tape fast, then start
      Rubbing the overspray off. It will smear, so keep wetting you rag with the thinner and rub. Do Not Drown it.
      It should come off easily since, you had already sprayed it with the finisher spray, the night before. If you
      Guys still have questions, just write and I will explain it until you feel confident that your question is answered.
      Thanks. Grandpa. Bill

    The overspray that was on the middle of the engine cover came up from underneath. Spray paint will find its way anywhere it can, and it blew up from the unprotected opening underneath.

    • @billfraught

    What about an oil separator for the drivers side valve cover?

    • @billfraught
      @billfraught  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      My. You don't really need it on the drivers side. Oboist 90% of the blow by occurs on the passenger side, but I have seen them on both sides. I believe as the car gets older and breaks in, you will see an increase in the oil accumulation on the passenger side. But I've hadn't emptied my can in 4,000 miles, which will probably lead me to check it once every oil change, which for me is every 5,000 miles. I use Ford synthetic blend I pick up at Wall Mart for about $17.00 per 5 quarts. Remember your Mustang , if it's a GT v8 will take 8 quarts of oil. Glad I could help you. Grandpa Bill, Austin.

    next time use trash bags or some painters plastic drop sheets to cover up the spots you dont want painted insted of using towels

    • @billfraught
      @billfraught  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      therealmeazy Yes I thought about that, but the towels were a lot thicker then thin plastic, thus eliminating the potential of
      Infiltration or overspray seeping through the gaps. As far as "next time" that won't happen...it's once and done for me.
      Thanks for watching and commenting.

      Boringly painful to see someone spray paint anything... and the only instructions I read was in the first part of the video, showing where you can get the printed instructions, for those who don’t like to start and stop a video, and would rather read. Sorry my approach didn’t help you...Grandpa Bill, Austin., Tx.
