It shows that he spends time on it. If you know a game, you can usually tell when a reviewer is only talking about the first little bit of it. Or for the Japanese games, they'll say, "This is in Japanese, I don't know what's going on", and would just skip on to the next game. Even if Jeremy doesn't know the game, he still learns it enough to let us know what's up. I doubt many reviewers would even attempt to learn mahjong for a review. I really like extra effort.
There also an unreleased US version of Card Game intended for release as Card Games in the US by JVC. It was found in the September 2020 Game Boy lot check leak. The game's title was pluralized and given a "TM".
Weird thing I noticed about Blackjack: the AI took a hit on 17 at one point. In Blackjack, the dealer has to take a hit on 16 and has to stand on 17. Just an observation. Wonder if Coconuts couldn't work the logic out or just didn't care, but it also makes me wonder what the logic is that makes the AI stand, instead of taking a hit.
+On the Stick +Jeremy Parish Was it a "soft" 17, or a "hard" 17? Soft 17s are when one of the cards is an ace, meaning hitting isn't super risky since even if your total goes above 21, the value of the ace drops back to 1, meaning it's impossible to lose while hitting on that hand. A "hard" 17 means there is no ace, meaning you could potentially go over 21 by hitting on that hand. Dealers are supposed to stand on hard 17s, and hit on soft 17s, most of the time. Apologies if you already knew this, just throwing it out there.
That whole hand was weird. Doesn't P1 have a Blackjack there? It's as if it's giving the dealer a chance to match the 21, which would explain why he kept hitting.
I am surprised there exists a gameboy game that has Crazy Eights even if it's slightly different from my family's preferred version. Was there no card to skip the next player's turn?
next episode launching February 16th, 2016... are you doing 2 today, or was that a mistake? (I'm new here, only discovered your channel around last Friday, since I have watched all the Gameboy world videos).
+enahsg More like a side effect. I put this episode together before Cosmo Tank because I didn't think I could get Cosmo Tank done in time to hit the weekly release schedule. But then I DID get it done in time, so Cosmo Tank went up last week instead of today as originally planned. The date error seemed too trivial an issue to go through the hours-long process of re-rendering and uploading this episode.
I've never been a big fan of blackjack or poker, primarily due to the extreme luck required to win blackjack, and the various rules of poker that I could never be bothered to follow. UNO, however, I've always enjoyed, so U.S.A. Page 1 sounds like it would be fun. However, I think I'll wait until I can track down a copy of UNO for the Game Boy Color, as I think that might actually be fun.
Only you can manage to pull off an 8 minute review of possibly the most generic video game in history, and I love you for it.
+sprdvx I don't want people to think I'm getting lazy just because the games are lame.
+Jeremy Parish Don't change :)

These are really enjoyable and enlightening so far.
9 minutes on Card Game! Nice haha

+On the Stick I don't know! I know jack-doodly about card rules! But this is an interesting thing.

+BuckTwenty It's at 4:13 and it's a hard 17. It's two sixes and a five.
On the Stick Ah. Yeah, they probably messed that up, then haha

I actually picked up this game for cheap on eBay! It's not bad at all. I do like me some good Poker, Blackjack, and Crazy 8s.
Oh joy! Boxxle II is up next!
Looks like Pachio-Kun is on the USA Page1 deck. And you said this game has no frills.
+Cooltendo Friggin' Pachio-kun.

i always wanted a gameboy game to tell me what color shirt i will wear in the future
grey, darker grey, black or white
Don't forget barf green!
USA Page 1 sounds a bit similar to obscure Crazy Eights variant Creights, which is an excellent game itself.
That game is new to me.
A video on card games on Gameboy! Yeah! It actually doesn't look too bad, at least the AI isn't damning/impossible.

YEAH
Alright !
shouldn't the next episode be be Dexterity (June 15 1990) instead of Boxxle II (June 22 1990)?
+AntAnt What an interesting question!

Do you have a flash cart, or do you legitimately own all of these mediocre Game Boy games?
Kinda hard to take complete packaging photos of a flash card: www.gameboyworld.com/1990/06/15/card-game/
+Jeremy Parish
In that case, I wish you luck in finding a mint CIB copy of Trip World once you get up to 1992.
