    Wow!
    I think this video post is excellent
    I think I’ve got prairie blood in me; I love the flats. But oh boy, the price we pay in terms of wind!! I think nothing is more debilitating to spirit is a relentless headwind!
    But like I have told you before… your high brow determination and positive outlook seems to burst thru anything…excellent!
    Those frontage roads and ZERO traffic; that was GREAT!
    This video makes up for the missing one from last Saturday HAHAHA 😅
    As always; LOVE your show. ❤️❤️❤️❤️✅

      That's awesome to hear, thank you. I would love to keep up with the weekly posting but it's unrealistic. I need to buy myself time so I can get out on the road. I love the editing but it does take a ton of my time. This way I can keep posting and go gather more content. The wind is tough. It gets in your brain and you have to battle with that. In my line of work as a fishing guide I have grown up in head winds so it is not as much of an issue but it is, you know? Take care. Thanks for watching.

    What a great episode, Diego! 👏
    It was a smart move starting earlier to avoid the wind. And you were greeted with an amazing sunrise... Very beautiful that part of Texas.
    It was nice that your friend loaned you his truck.

      Hey Mario. Psyched you liked the episode. Getting thru the panhandle of Texas was a quick affair and soon I will be heading to the mountains and many passes. The scenery is about to take a drastic turn. I am also heading out soon to cross the West from north to south from Vancouver to Tecate. That's seeing the Cascades and Sierra Nevada Mountains plus the Mojave and Anza-Borrego Deserts. Im editing as much as I can so I can schedule uploads every two weeks until I get back and can get back to editing. I hope you are doing some great things in Portugal and southwestern Europe. Take care and thank you for watching.

      I've been working since I came back. I'm thinking of taking a week off to do a small tour going to Serra do Geres then Compostela in Spain and coming back by the coast.
      Otherwise only next year in Italy 🇮🇹

Not sure what the hold up would be, it sure looks like a National Park to me. Either way, it is super fun to visit. I hope you get out there someday. And you are right about I-40 and they semi's. Non stop but it is actually pretty safe and it is allowed so all thumbs up. It's also gat great open scapes to stare at. Plenty of frontage roads as well. Take care. Thanks for watching.

    Headwind is hard that's why I'm choosing wind direction when doing my monthly bike tours but you can choose only one direction and that's West, mostly. I'm glad to see that you're noticing overhead birds, Red-tailed Hawks, you know I'm a birder. Early start before sunrise, what an incredible view in every direction. That last bike trail was for mountain bikers. Sometimes Google Maps leads into these kinds of trails. I always have to double-check but the views were incredible and you made it to your camping spot. Awesome episode!

      @FlyscoutRyder  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi Thomas. I do know you are a birder. I'm not at your level but I do enjoy bird watching. Even though I am ultimately heading to the west coast I do zig zag a bunch. Always going somewhere I researched and want to see. From Santa Rosa NM I go straight north-northwest to Colorado's San Juan for instance. Then I zig zagged Utah so I could visit its five national parks. Great to hear from you. Thank you for watching.

    This was a great ride Diego, I am just in awe of you cyclists that do these across country tours, you guys have so much drive and courage to get out there and to just do it! I ride recumbent and idk if you know a well known recumbent rider Silvia Helpern aka Travels By Trike on TH-cam she did an across country tour just like you’re doing she did hers last year in the opposite direction, she left from California and headed to Washington as the end of the tour. I would love to attempt to do this one day. Hope you keep on being encouraged and keep on peddling, still wish I could have road some with you while you were in Arkansas God bless friend ❤

      Hi ST. I just spent the last hour checking out your content on "The Southern Triker" www.youtube.com/@TheSouthernTriker I dig it. The trike shop and the WOKA episodes were great. I like how you incorporate different cameras with the drone shots. I've known about Travels By Trike as well. She has a strong following. It's so fulfilling to be part of getting people out there using our trails and getting in a healthy lifestyle. About trikes, I have tried them and loved them. Pretty sure I will be riding one someday. They just make sense for the most part. I met a guy once in Vermont who told me him. his wife, and 13 year old son rode from Boston to Seattle on trikes. It's totally doable. There is the TransAmerica Trail form Adventure Cycling Association that seems super popular for a first tour across the country. Too bad I rode thru Arkansas this last year and didn't know about you, it would have been great to meet you. Let's keep in touch and thank you for watching.

    Yes, you should get a mountain bike. I go "trail touring" (made that name up myself) on my 29" hard tail Jamis Durango. I use a Surly cro-mo rear rack with Thule panniers and a Topeak 15l backloader (seat bag). A salsa exp frame bag. A Thule shield touring rack with 6 Sea to Summit bags. One 13l, one 4l, one 5l, one 8l, and two 3l. As well as a pair of Topeak versa cages (cargo cages) on my forks. With a pair of 24oz Nalgene water bottels on cages behind the cargo cages. Another Topeak versa cage on the bottom of the down tube with a 64oz growler. More water, people under estimate how much they need. I carry a pair of Sea to Summit 4l watercells under the panniers. On my handel bars I have a Aero Spyder Cage. This thing mounts solid and far out away from the cables. It holds anything round like other cages so I just put my Thermarest roll up foam mattress. It's lightweight and fits perfectly. I haven't done it yet, but when I get my new Surly Ogre this winter and dress it up the same way I'm going to submit it to bikepacking. com readers rigs. I usually have slicks and knobies for roads and trails. If you do it enough switching tires can go down pretty quick. While resting and re fueling. A one hour lunch break. Or before turning in for the night. Trail Touring, don't let having a inadequate bike keep you from getting to the places you want to go. Yes, a 700c road bike is a better option for "road touring". But if you want to get to that sweet spot, my 29er can go there. Wherever "THERE" is.

    • @FlyscoutRyder
      @FlyscoutRyder  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Awesome comment and description. You got the knowledge of how to get a bike rigged, that's for sure. This Lynskey GR300 I'm touring on can accept a swap from 700c to 650b rims so you can have up to 2.2" tiers. The clearance is there. I will be doing an all backroad tour soon enough. Personally I am all about pavement. It is smooth and fast. Going high into the mountains and dropping these passes is by far my favorite part of touring. And there is definitely enough dirt roads here and there. I use Schwalbe Marathon Mondials DD at 700c x 40. This tire allows for high psi at 85 and that's what I like ridding at. Unless I get on dirt. It's a bit of a hard ride but it manages the weight against rolling resistance well. Take care and be safe.

    What time do you start and stop in a 80 mile day most I’ve done is 60

    • @FlyscoutRyder
      @FlyscoutRyder  หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends on multiple variables. Most days I don’t do 80 miles to start with. If I have climbing to do or dealing with a head wind I would definitely be doing less miles. Logistics to consider for each day are always different. I start by looking at destination options on my route, consider wind direction, elevation gain and/or drop to do to get to options on route and then I figure out when to start. On this day in Texas in this episode I knew I needed to get to Amarillo because the day after was going to blow 40+mph from the west and there wasn’t much in between. So I started in the dark that morning to be sure I’d make it before night time and to take advantage of the usual lesser windy mornings. Once you are touring you end up constantly looking at your route options and the weather forecast. It is an entertaining aspect of bicycle touring. Sooner or later you’ll see a tailwind day on a low traffic road with mostly descending miles and you’ll do 90 miles in six hours. Be safe out there.
