I think Tasty's recipes are real since they got real chefs there, like Rie. I have tried some of them and they turn out good. But I think they're somewhat of a content farming channel too cause they use to compile their recipes into several videos, but if you watch closely, they're just recycling the same footages over and over again. I want Ann to review it.
As far as I can tell, Tasty gives real recipes (have been tested, nothing dodgy or dangerous), they do have a team of cooks/chefs who is capable. The standard is not as high as say American Test Kitchen or Serious Eats, but I don't think it's any worse than bog standard bloggers.
Apart from the measurements that most of the times are a little off, they have pretty nice and easy recipes :) I've done a bunch of them and they turned out good

AGREED. I cannot understand how people struggle with reading a recipe and following what it says. They must have dropped out of the first grade to have reading comprehension that poor.
Maybe the instructions weren’t clear, or they did a miscalculation or something, for example once my dad and I tried to make buttercream frosting then we accidentally put 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract instead of 1 teaspoon

I strongly suspect that they generally use a lot more icing than is in the packet (if you're talking about packet cakes), and, if you've got enough icing, getting it to stick where you want it and with the right surface texture is not so easy. There can also be problems with things like using foreign recipes and subtle differences in ingredients resulting in significantly different outcomes.

I remember you saying in an earlier video "the more you muck around with it the worse it gets" when referring to freshly baked cake. I think that's how the mom ended up with cake chunks.
