Big gut check for the Wolves, KAT and Ant. Are the real or are they not? Ant and KAT can prove they are worthy right here. (I think Ant is, sooner or later. I have always had doubts about KAT. Dude should break the game but it never seems to happen consistently.) They had a chance at best record in the West and flubbed it. The knock on Rudy with Jazz is they couldn't make them pay enough at the offensive end to justify keeping Rudy on the floor. MIN is a much better defensive team that that Jazz. Can they stop the hemorrhaging?

Tired of people talking about regular season W-L as the determining factor. People could lose every game to the Lakers and they would still pick them as an upset in the playoffs. 56 wins in the regular season on a consistent basis was not enough to earn the flowers from ANYONE.Be the best defense means nothing compared to teams that take 80 shots a night. As a Suns fan I am cautiously optimistic, but I still remember how inconsistent the Suns can be so I can't be confident. To me, the regular season record doesn't really mean a ton when forecasting playoff matchups. The Suns had won like 8 straight games in the regular season against the Mavs before the 2022 conference semi-finals, and all Suns fans remember how that turned out. But, I just don't know if KAT, returning from injury, can stay on the floor against this matchup. Even when healthy there's no defensive matchup you love for him. If he isn't hitting his shots, if he's turning it over when he sees a double, or if he's committing offense fouls trying to taking advantage of switches onto smaller guys, he can't play on offense either.
That being said, the key to the Suns winning in the regular season was slowing down Ant. I just think Ant is too good to be slowed down by the boxes and elbows defense the Suns have been showing him. Gobert is capable in more aggressive pick and roll coverages, which he will have to do because drop doesn't work against the Suns. The Wolves have tried their best to not double and blitz in the regular season matchups, but that's the Suns' weakness so I'm sure they will in this series. Nurkic is very inconsistent, but he has to keep trying to score while rolling or Gobert will begin to roam off of him. I think the Wolves one-big lineups, especially with Reid or KAT, can cause Nurkic to be played off the floor too.
Overall I think Suns in 6, but there will definitely be times in the series where it looks like the Suns are going to get blown out.

Never mind the Wolves, despite the Suns up and downs all season (and they have adjusted a completely new team all year with minimum continuity) they know they are more than a match for any team in the west, beating the nuggets twice in Denver, the Wolves three times so they’re not phased by any team in a playoff series. It’s no longer the regular season, their players have their reputations for being among the best when they apply themselves, their record is not a reflection of how they play at their best, it would have been a top 4-5 place in some previous playoff seedings. Their various collective and individual stats are superb throughout but also in phases of the season. They are now a seriously motivated and galvanised team who are also well aware of their own weaknesses. No team wants to face Phoenix but Phoenix will challenge any team.

1st game - day after the in season tournament. Wolves were on a B2B.
    2nd game - missing Kat.
3rd game - KAT just got back from surgery.
I don’t think Ant has taken the matchup serious. But he will. He coasts vs bad teams and Phoenix don’t look like a threat if you standings watch. Wolves just need to stop playing the Suns game and trying to match up to what they are doing and just play their own game. Go big and make them react to us. Don’t let them dictate tempo cause more possessions just plays into what the Suns want. More shots.

People never look at what really happened in those games, or they see the boxscore and automatically say, "Suns blew them out, not even close," but those people are in for a rude awakening! I predict wolves blowing the Suns out Saturday. Set the tone of the series. Ant drops about 25 to 30pts. Kat adds like 20 , gobert gets a double double pts and rebounds. But the x factor shines through, Naz Reid gets back on track and adds an additional 25 plus of the bench. Naz has struggled against the Suns, but I feel he regains his confidence this round. I say wolves in 6 or 7. KD is leaving the Suns this summer, and this may get the train rolling.

If the Wolves needs ANT to push the pedal to the floor in terms of his scoring output to help win out for the series I think he will. Suns were also down 0-2 last year vs the Nuggets and it took a huge effort from KD/Booker to combine at least 70+ points in games 3 and 4 to tie it up. So ANT gotta show he's always got that 35~40+ point heater ready late in the series.

Bad match up? None of the Suns can frikin match up hunt the smallest guy in the Wolves lineup in Mike Conley. Meanwhile the Suns are pitiful on the boards and barely beat out the Wolves on the glass in game 2. Only because the Wolves were still finding big buckets elsewhere. Suns don't have anyone reliable to throw at Ant or even KAT if he gets the hot hand. Suns will get their big scoring game off Booker/KD but the consistency won't be there to keep it close. Especially if pressure is on Booker to buy buckets in an elimination game.

That's what people who think the Suns will easily win are missing, all of the games so far have been the BEST case scenario for the Suns. It's not always going to be like that. Suns are a good team, play good defense but some of the offensive struggles is just the Wolves missing open shots that they normally make. Suns are a scary offensive team that match up well, but some of what we saw was the Suns being red hot... and they aren't always going to be red hot with their shooting, as talented as they are. Plus, who knows what adjustments will be made. I lean the Suns winning the series in a pretty close 6 games, I really doubt its an easy 6 games though.

After that the Nuggets could still score however they can and the Suns ran out of gas on offense with Booker melting late in the series as usual with his 12 point stinkers. Suns were the only team to give the nuggets trouble even with an injured Paul and a liability at center named Ayton

He got swept in Brooklyn LMAO
Or Booker who has choked in big moments
Just PRAY Ant doesn't have 26 going into half in game 7 while the Suns have 26.

Dude Ant averaged over 31 points in last years playoffs against the defending champs. What makes you think Ant won't flip that switch again vs the Suns?? And if you watched the wolves all season , you would know they have one of the deepest benches in the league. Naz Reid, who can put up 25 off the bench on any giving night, Monte Morris who has a ring with Denver, Jmac and many others. Those games in the season were all just good shooting nights for the Suns and bad offense for the wolves. The first game wolves were on a b2b, the second game Kat was out but the wolves still held Phoenix under 100 points in that game, and the last game Kat was just getting back into the rotation and the wolves just wasn't making the shots they usually get to fall. So don't get too ahead of yourself because anything can happen in these series.

Pro tip: It is gantlet, not gauntlet. A gauntlet is a armored glove. A gantlet is basically a spanking line. Which would you need to make it through? (It is misused so much that "gauntlet" is now considered correct, but still the etymology does not line up.)

@@David-iv6je or listen to basketball. “running through the gauntlet” is an open challenge or an unpleasant experience with multiple parties attacking you. Websters Dictionary states gantlet as the act of running through two rows. what u said is false and you’re talking abt it under a basketball accounts comment section.

@@aidancarmody4978 From the Chicago Tribune:"Well, which is it - “gantlet” or “gauntlet”?
Above Friday’s Page 1 story detailing how some Chicago public school students dodge gangs and violence on their way to class appeared the headline “The gantlet.”
Readers were incensed. And the gauntlets - er, gloves - came off.
In fact, the headline apparently sparked so much interest that the term “gantlet” rose to No. 10 on Google’s list of hottest Internet searches Friday morning.
How could the Tribune commit such a grievous error? We’d clearly chosen the wrong word, dozens of readers told us by phone and e-mail and in online comments.
      Had we?
Webster’s New World College Dictionary, which we use in the newsroom, prefers “gantlet” when describing the act of running between two rows. The dictionary also accepts “gauntlet” in this usage, though the primary definition is a medieval glove worn by knights.
For consistency, newspapers adopt a style that ensures one, uniform use of certain terms. In the Tribune’s case, we go with Associated Press style, which is to use the term “gantlet.”
The response shows that the spelling we chose, though correct, was less familiar to readers. The alternative? Bow to common usage by choosing “gauntlet.”
Can we all just pick up our gauntlets now and move on?" :)

      @@aidancarmody4978 GrammarBook: "Gantlet, Gauntlet
These two words, despite their similarity, come from different roots. The distinction should be preserved.
The expression run the gantlet means "to undergo criticism or harassment from several sources in a concentrated period of time." It is often written run the gauntlet, which makes language nitpickers cry foul.
To throw down the gauntlet is to aggressively challenge someone. To take up the gauntlet is to accept such a challenge.
