VEGAN IN MALAYSIA | What we eat in a day in Kuala Lumpur | Malaysia Street Foods

  • In this video we eat our way through Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia! As vegans it can be difficult to travel without being proficient in the native language. Relaying to restaurants and food vendors a vegan food preference is hard, but with a little research, we did our best to find delicious vegan food across Kuala Lumpur. Stops include street food at the Jalan Alor night market and a vegan buffet at a monastery in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.

There's lots of vegan and vegetarians food in Malaysia, but they are not "concentrate" in one place. Some could be found in the malls, some looks like the normal shop/restaurants (if you don't read the signboard carefully, u'll just walk pass them without noticing them.). Or some grand one with their entire building (dining building including their parking space). Conclusion, it's a bit hard to find a good one without a car, or I should said it's a bit hard to travel around Malaysia without a car.

You should try fried banana from the old auntie along the road, they keep fried the real fresh and hot fried banana. Tourist and foreigners alway go to Jalan Alor, there’s nothing special. Google and search for “pasar malam”. Find the malay stall, u will find all the sweets and good fried stuff

Technically the one at Guanyin monastery was not a buffet meal. It's what the Malays call 'nasi campur' while the Chinese call it 'economy rice' because you pay for only what you want instead of having to just accept the chef's preference. Anyway, have fun in Malaysia.

From October 17th October 25th, (nine days), will be a good time to visit Penang, Malaysia and Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia because the Chinese here celebrate The Nine Emperor God festival, the diety is vegan. Here you will find Malaysian Chinese selling vegan food all day and night long for nine days. Most local chinese delight have their vegan version.
Hopefully by then Covid 19 will not be much of a problem.

How did you check with the vendors what was vegan? I'm hoping to visit Malaysia next year, but I'm worried that I might accidently buy products that contain dairy/eggs because of the language barrier.

Agree with you if you don't like durian 😁
The thing about durian is either you love it or hate it.
If you don't like mangosteen I don't know what more I can say..
Took a few of my taxi customers before to try Malaysian fruits..
    All of them love mangosteen..
    Anyway thanks for this video..
I'm born and bred in Kuala Lumpur.
Hope you enjoyed your stay in this city.

about the fried banana, keep trying, i bet you ate the mediocre ones, the tastes depends on the type of banana that they use ( not being bias but if u want fried banana, go for the malay ones, not chinese)
try walk around kl, malay area possibly 'kampung baru' at 4pm-6pm look for stalls, usually they have multiple types of fried banana, and ask for "pisang emas" fried banana (literally means golden banana) its the sweetest banana type u can find and it tasted great as fried banana. a great tea time snacks.
plus at noon try and go to any malay restaurant or stalls, they have multiple dishes buffet including vegee dishes (we call it nasi campur), its totally different taste from chinese/indian dish, and its the real malaysian food. as most travelers said, one of the best if not the best cuisine in the world.

    • @CRUZEOO
      @CRUZEOO 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@lcb8888 true, but since they're in malaysia, i just suggested them to try malaysian food. cuz chinese food you can get in china & others, indian food u can get in india & others, but malaysian foods only in malaysia

At this rate all western vloggers should avoid durian..hardly see any that like it...n it’s always the smelly sock cliche...i think half the notoriety associated with it comes from the stigma of western talk tales and folklore..it does not taste like smelly sock or over ripe cheese...it’s just a strange texture and aroma for the western palate

Hi There, Welcome to KL, spend your day in Kampung Baru , taste the popular nasi lemak antarabangsa ,cendol durian jalan raja alang , roti canai warung pak hassan and find out the beauty of malay kampung architecture with Petronas Tower background and mixed with local as well. Why pay more? Download mycar it's a decent app and cheaper than grab.
Mycar Passenger by platform Apps Sdn Bhd.
In addition a friendly reminder please skip tourist trap :-
    1.China Town (rude + overpriced)
    2.Jalan Alor (overpriced + unhygienic)
3.Little India ( safety issue ltte terrorist)
    Have a nice day.
