So glad to see you back. Yes Please, I would like a video of the non toxic household products you use! Paleo has been the best diet for my body too. We started on the Dave Ramsey plan in 2015 after I came across one of your videos! In the fist three years we were gazelle intense but for the past two years we did ease up a bit and allowed ourselves a few short vacations. I'm in my mid 50's and was diagnosed with cancer at 50. We just felt like we wanted to have some experiences and create some lasting memories for our family. We still do the Dave Ramsey plan but we do have a sinking fund for vacations and special occasions. I agree that people can become fanatical about following the plan to the t and that we need to take our own circumstances and family's needs into consideration too.

People should do what works for their family. My hubby and I started DR several years ago and his program has changed our lives dramatically. I thought I’d freak when I cut that last credit card but I actually have so much more money now that I’ve ditched them. I am so glad we found him.

Yes! Girl, we got debt free on the Ramsey framework, but not following every single rule. I could never make cash envelopes work for us, for example. But the whole delayed gratification, getting out of debt, stuff was the goal and we did it. We are so thankful for Dave’s guidance and insights. We learned a lot about our finances and ourselves. But we don’t follow every rule or every step. We’ve not built our emergency fund, but we will be starting that soon. We took some vacations we had been putting off instead of going straight to the emergency fund. I’m so glad we did what we did. I’m glad to hear you’re making room for living like we have instead of living under the Ramsey rules too rigidly. Love you guys!

YES! Other then first 2 steps we are doing our own way vs being overly strict with order. To be honest I was already doing most these things before I even knew about Dave Ramsey. He is a great motivator to stay on track with our own family goals.

IMO It's okay to say you're not doing the Dave Ramsey's plan if you're doing a plan inspired by it. I'm sure there are thousands of people not doing insanely strict budgeting and might even be using credit of some sort, but are still practicing the "live below your means" lifestyle. It is just that many of those people could fall back into debt if they don't have incredible discipline.
I’m so thankful you acknowledged that Dave Ramsey can become an idol to some. I’ve said this so many times as an “outsider”.

Many people assume that we are Dave Ramsey followers because we use cash envelopes, but we aren't! Lol. I think finances are all personal and just like in life, we should use and apply what helps, and let go of what doesn't. It isn't one size fits all. That's why it's called personal finance. 😉

Also, we have never followed Dave Ramsey 100%. My husband never bought into it. But we are doing great! Debt free except for a tiny mortgage. We are saving for future expenses and investing where we can.

So are you guys back in a bunch of debt now? How did that happen? 😬
We almost filed for bankruptcy: unpaid maternity leave, new baby, slow season of business and hidden crippling debt. Everything was maxed out. We refinanced the house- DR wouldn’t approve. And then I decided $1000 emergency fund was not appropriate, especially with an unsteady income. We have a lot of work to rebuild our finances and marriage but 100% DR isn’t for us.
I find myself Wondering how you guys are doing these days? I was just searching for some baby step 6 motivation...I started when you were starting on youtube and used to be someone that com.ented quite alot and talked to you when I was a si gle mom going through a crazy separation trying desperately to find a way to find the good in working it out. Definitely with a different person now,much less of a crazy liar...anyhow checking in! Hope all is well in fun corona times, bizarre how time changes things, baby steps 1 through to almost 6 as of next pay check not the most linear of a journey but pretty close I suppose, that took me from like 2013/14 to now with plenty of things cash flowed in between.. everyone can do thia we make like 55k a year
