Dick York's ending was not as sad as people think. He did spend his last years in poverty, but had a loving wife and circle of friends. Despite his debilitating emphysema, he spent his last years coordinating the delivery of food that was near expiration date from grocery stores to places that served food to the needy. He was a loving and caring person who, despite his poor health and poverty, still managed to serve the less fortunate.
I think he was the better Darrin also but I liked Dick Sargent also. I was glad he had a different take on the part and didn't try to copy Dick Yorks mannerisms. I get tired of people doggin on Sargent.
Dick York was definitely the best Darrin. Such a shame what happened with his back 😞 😢 I love how he tried to help others so much. Especially at the end of his life. ❤
Born in the 60's, I watched Bewitched when I was just a young kid. It was one of my favorite shows to watch back then. My favorite actor in the show was always Elizabeth, she was amazing, but Dick York was a close second. He had the best facial impressions ever! I really enjoyed watching the episodes with York. R.I.P. Dick York, one of the greats!!
Unfortunately here in AMERICA where she lived and some of us where aware of her personal life---She had another nick-name, 'SLUT' sadly. Oh well her bad choices. She was Hot yes.
Here in my city Adelaide South Australia a local radio station would ring Dick every year to hear how he was going although he was suffering he was always upbeat RIP Dick your not forgotten 😢
From Mississippi & have bn blessed to have visited Australia some 15 yrs ago. Super friendly people & gorgeous scenery (Sydney & Blue Mtns is where I visited).
What a fantastic show. As a little girl I used to try and twitch my nose in the mirror and do magic. Dick York was irreplaceable. You could tell he was a sweet soul just by that dear sweet face.😊
There was a very genuine acting chemistry between Dick York and EM. They were so convincing as a loving newlywed couple He had a lot of chemistry with the other actors The cast was great
Dick York was the best Darrin Steven in Bewitched show during 1960’s Miss him. He and Elizabeth Montgomery has the best chemistry in the show ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Dick York was the real Darren Steven in my eyes. I had a little crush on him as 5 year old girl. I did not understand when they changed actors. Before that time, I thought the Steven's were a real family. The change, ironically broke the magic that was present in the relationship between Darren and Samantha. Rest in Peace Dick York
Anyone who has to act with an on-screen partner, husband and wife, girlfriend boyfriend, especially on a series it's very difficult not to 'develop' a relationship and feelings for your co-star. One of those things that makes relationships and marriages very fragile in that industry.
Dick York was a great man and actor. I loved Bewitched and still watch it today. It was a beautiful love story of a girl who could conjure up anything, but treasured things given from loved ones and sentimentality . Loved being a wife and mother home was her priority not money and things. I loved their love story and the characters they played. RIP Dick and Elizabeth fine people and actors, the best!
Dick York was my absolute favourite Darren. Handsome, with great comic timing and obviously, from this interesting and well researched piece, also with a big heart. I am so sorry his last years were blighted by illness and financial difficulty.
My heart grieves knowing what he went through, I have similar back issues including degenerative disc disease, arthritis and herniated discs, I’ve had surgery that brought relief for 5 years taking my pain from a 7/10 to 4/10 but now it’s back to 7-8 out of 10, and there’s not anything to do but take my meds and try to distract myself by watching videos all day. I don’t smoke after losing my precious tiny mom that looked like Barbara Eden when she was 52 to COPD from being a chain smoker. He was my favorite Darrin, he just had such kind eyes. Knowing he and he beloved wife were willing to clean the apartments they once owned gives me such an appreciation for who he was. The two of them definitely weren’t damaged by Hollywood entitlement. May he rest until the good Lord calls him to the new earth!
Dick York was my favorite. He sounded like a kind and generous man. It’s too bad he couldn’t kick his heavy smoking habit, which I’m pretty sure led to his premature death.
No need to fret hierarchy issues, the man you just told me about sounds like a real trooper and a fine man. Not cut out to be a landlord, maybe, but clearly a fully qualified human being. In these horrendous times, he blesses my soul. Thank you so much for a courteous, clear, portrait of a nice person.
I added My comment, but I just read Yours and I have to say that I couldn't have said it any Better, I gave My comment but what You said about Dick York was so spot on, I just wanted to let You know that and I AGREE 💯. PEACE.
Sooo sad😢. I did hear about why he left the show, but only a few years ago. I wondered why he left and took me time to get used to a new Darren. I loved the show. Thanks for doing this video and telling about his life and career.
Dick York was the best. He had the best gyrations and facial expressions. Nothing against Mr. Sargent, I've seen him in many things too, but no one could beat Mr. York as Darrin. He was great.
Sargent really had a difficult task and shoes to fill. He did a really good job considering all he had going against him. He really reminds me of Jack Lemmon
One of my favorite retro sit-coms! So cleverly written and acted …. York was my fav Darrin/Dustin/Derwood - Sargeant gave a valiant effort but he was a little stiff for the role …. So sad to lose EM at such a young age … but she’ll forever be Samantha Stevens in everyone’s hearts 💞 💫 🧹
My dad was a Master Sergeant in the NY National Guard. Dick York was in his unit and one day an officer needed a driver. My dad assigned York to this detail but York told him that he couldn't drive a standard shift. So very early on a Saturday morning at Camp Smith Dick York learned to drive a standard shift.
just saw him on 2 different episodes of the Alfred Hitchcock hour.... i thought he stood out as an above average actor, best acting i have seen out of him.
I remember sitting at the kitchen table in Portland, Oregon in 1985 on the kitchen phone with Sol Sacks The Producer of the Show, just chatting it up with him early one Saturday afternoon. I did not know that at the time York was ailing from his condition, or I would have prayed for him and the family. I loved that guy! Just a few years later it seemed, because it hadn't been a decade, York succumbed to his illness -brought on by his own habit. I would hear Later that he was in Fact Born Again before his Death, for those that Understand, he has gone on to What GOD calls PARADISE. So now, Nothing here from his Life matters to him Forever more. [ ]
Dick York was my favorite. I love this show. I felt so bad when they changed Darrin. It wasn't the same, but the show was still good. I felt bad when they stopped this show. It was lighthearted, romantic, and funny. I have the series on DVD.
I liked Dick York the best in Bewitched. He had fun facial expressions and reactions. I also liked the second Darrin because he kept the show going. It brought us a lot of joy. 😊
Born in 1961, I first watched Bewitched on daily reruns in the early 1970's with my babysitter. I remember her asking me "Which is your favorite Darrin?". "The first one!" was my immediate reply. Dick York, you were a good mortal! RIP.
Dick York was the best Darrin Stevens. Hard to watch after he was replaced. His comedy, his facial features were unmatchable.
RIP Derwood
@@actuary33😂😂😂
Good one@@actuary33
His eyes 👀
Jim Carrey woulda been a good Darren he shoulda made the Bewitched movie with a better story than the one they had.
Dick York's ending was not as sad as people think. He did spend his last years in poverty, but had a loving wife and circle of friends. Despite his debilitating emphysema, he spent his last years coordinating the delivery of food that was near expiration
date from grocery stores to places that served food to the needy. He was a loving and caring person who, despite his poor health and poverty, still managed to serve the less fortunate.
That is VERY sad
The original Derwood, Dick York
Not. one. single. person. in. Hollywood. did. one. single. thing. for. Dick. York! Elizabeth Montgomery can rot in hell for that!
His care and help for the less fortunate was unequalled. A great actor and a beautiful person!
Today actors need to take note from dick York
The show wasn’t the same without him! RIP Mr. York always a fan! 🌟🙏🏼❤️
Dick York was the best Darren in Bewitched. Great facial expressions !!!!
I agree about the best facial expressions.
The original Darrin !!!
I preferred Dick York as Darren Stephens. I think most people would agree.
I think he was the better Darrin also but I liked Dick Sargent also. I was glad he had a different take on the part and didn't try to copy Dick Yorks mannerisms. I get tired of people doggin on Sargent.
That is an easy choice.
Well--it was much more believable--tha love story between the first dick and Elizabeth...
you “think most people would agree,” eh? Most people?
They were both great Dick’s. Both Dick’s were very tall standing erect. However, Dick Sargent loved Dick a lot more 🤷♂️
Dick york was an amazing actor. He was also a very kind person who liked to help others in need even when his own health was failing. ❤❤❤😢
Dick York was definitely the best Darrin.
Such a shame what happened with his back 😞 😢 I love how he tried to help others so much. Especially at the end of his life. ❤
In my opinion, there was really only ONE Darren, and that's Dick York.
@@johnhoran9840... I guess because people get used to whoever is first and longest in a role. He was good though.
I pray he rests in peace. Watching him on Bewitched brought a lot of joy to my childhood.
He was brilliant as Darren. The show suffered without him. So sad that he had to live with crippling pain. We miss you here on planet earth Dick.🩷🩷🩷

I agree with everyone. Dick York for ever. Dick Sergeant was a good actor too, but York was iconic.
R.I.P. dear Dick, by far the best Derwood, um, Darwin, eh, Darren, BEWITCHED ever had!♥️😘
I hope Dick York became a Christian 🙏❤️🌹
Andora 😅
Perhaps so and I can't picture his replacement on reruns, however, credit should still go to Dick Sergeant for doing his best.
I forgot all the names Agnes Moorehead called him, thanks for joggling the memory. He was the best Dum Dum. Remember Aunt Clara?
Lol, loved the way Endora kept purposely mistaking his name! So rude and yet so funny!
My favorite actor who played Darren Stevens was Dick York. ❤
We here in Australia would describe Elizabeth Montgomery as Drop Dead Gorgeous
I think pretty much the entire western hemisphere did.
She was an elegant beauty.
@@historybuff66are you kidding? People all over the world wanted to marry her or wanted someone like her to be their wife. She was drop dead gorgeous

What a great story, thanks!
What a fantastic show. As a little girl I used to try and twitch my nose in the mirror and do magic. Dick York was irreplaceable. You could tell he was a sweet soul just by that dear sweet face.😊
Dick York was my favorite. It's so sad he was sick. He sounded wonderful, and he had a heart of compassion to help others. Rest in peace Dick York.
Dick York, a good actor and it is such a shame about that tragic accident, he brought so much joy to so many. How his days ended was so sad.
Dick York was my favorite and still is
Dick York was my favorite. I love his face expressions.😊
There was a very genuine acting chemistry between Dick York and EM.
They were so convincing as a loving newlywed couple
He had a lot of chemistry with the other actors
The cast was great
Same in the Dick Van Dyke show, chemistry.
I agree
Dick York was my fave. There was a gentleness and innocense in his eyes and his comedy timing and expressions were just perfect!
As a 70s kid i truly enjoyed bewitched after school along with Mr ED , the goodies , Dr Who etc etc . Dick york was my favourite Darren .
Dick York was my favorite. Spot on with his performances each episode. So believable.❤❤❤ RIP
How could you not fall in love with Elizabeth Montgomery. She's absolutely beautiful.😍
Was not is.
Dick York was the best Darrin Steven in Bewitched show during 1960’s Miss him. He and Elizabeth Montgomery has the best chemistry in the show ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
He was an excellent actor. I have watched bewitched reruns over and over because the acting was so good.

Dick York was the best Darren , thankyou for the video .
From Australia 🦘
No surprise he loved Elizabeth, she was a very beautiful person.
I think she married Asher to get back at her daddy.
Beautiful. Yes . I also watched. Teenage crush etc. Good person ? Affairs ruined a couple marriages. Product of Hollypedoville

I’m pretty sure that everyone who met Elizabeth Montgomery fell in love with her.
She was smokin hot
You gotta be kidding - the woman had zero sex appeal…none …cardboard cut out …
I was in love with the pretty Elizabeth Montgomery and I was only a kid .

Yowza! Loved him on Bewitched! And I remember him being on the Twilight Zone. Thank you for sharing this story I always wondered what happened to him.
Dick York played in a good many TV shows, and was good on every show I seen him in, he always stood out.
Sad ending for a nice guy. Thanks Steve.
Loved Dick York and the many characters he portrayed during his career. Was the best Darren in Bewitched
just saw him on 2 different episodes of the Alfred Hitchcock hour.... i thought he stood out as an above average actor, best acting i have seen out of him.
I've been asked this so many times I can't even count? But for me it will always be York, "sorry Dick Sargent!"

He was amazing in Inherit The Wind.
Dick York was my favorite Darrin, he fit the role so well.

but depressing...a very
sad ending indeed.😔
