Btw Shao Kahn taught Shang Tsung how to use soul magic. He's more powerful than you guys think he is. He is in top 5 strongest mortal Kombat characters ever.

About Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung: Most people don't know it but Shao Kahn is not only a sorcerer himself, he was the one who taught Shang Tsung sorcery.
He may look like a professional wrestler but the real power behind Shao Kahn is his skill in sorcery and politics. I would imagine the reason he looks and acts like a wrestler is because that projects an image of strength that outworlders respect.
In fact, Shao Kahn used to be the previous Kahn's advisor. He was basically Onaga's "Shang Tsung" 😄
Ohhh so really he ought to be afraid of Shang Tsung if he managed to oust his previous Kahn and give himself a promotion. I don’t know if I could trust anyone if I was Shao Khan 😅
@@Achara In Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, Shang Tsung and Quan Chi team up, killing Liu Kang and Shao Kahn... only for the next game, Mortal Kombat: Deception to reveal that Shao Kahn had planned for Shang Tsung's treachery, and had created a clone to take the hit and fake his death. Not only did Shao Kahn manage to be the only evil right-hand to successfully betray his master, but he also prevented the same from happening to him.
@@Achara Well Shao was not just an adviser to Onaga. Shao was a God as well. The God of Souls. He was to Outworld to what Raiden was to Earthrealm.
And he taught Onaga how to manipulate souls.
Of course he betrayed Onaga and corrupted by rage and greed he fell from godhood. But his mastery of souls was so strong he became even stronger than when he was a God through devouring billions of souls.
@@Achara True...the position of Kahn rarely seems to foster good things.
Pretty much everyone who has become Kahn of Outworld for any extended period of time develops a sort of paranoia about being overthrown and shit instead of focusing on creating better policies for Outworld's people
9:13 A really cool detail in this scene is that when Hanzo says "Hanzo is dead call me Scorpion" notice that the blood on his face is shaped like a Scorpion.

Sonya I heard was inspired by Cynthia Rothrock. Liu Kang was inspired by Bruce Lee and Johnny Cage by Jean Claude Van Damme which you may already know.
Sonya was actually in the game since it cane out, it was just the version they were testing that didn't have her initially i think.
She was loosely inspired by Cynthia rothrock, and she was named after one of Ed boon's sisters.

Remember wanting to check this with my twin brothers since they dont really know MK and this is a great entry point. We enjoyed it a lot.

Scorpion is practically impossible to kill, given that he is already dead. His physical form is basically a suit that he wears to fight and interact with others, his true form is his soul. If you destroy his body, his soul just goes back to Hell where it recovers and builds a new body, and then back he goes. The only way to truly kill Scorpion is to destroy his soul, which is entirely possible for some like Shang Tsung and Shao Kahn.
You guys should check out Don Critic’s Mortal Kombat Explained series. He does a good job of explaining the stories and development of all the games that came before MK 9, MK X, & MK 11. A lot of characters from these games had minor appearances in the stories you saw.
only Bi Han (Subzero/Noob Saibot), his little brother Kuai Liang (2nd Subzero/Cyber Subzero), and Frost can use the freeze ability cause they are descendants of the long thought extinct Cryomancer race most Lin Kuei members are just mortal

In the Lore (again, hope you guyss watch the Whole Lore in MK Temple) ... Shang Tsung was taught soul magic by Shao Kahn, also Skarlet learned blood magic from Shao Kahn .... He was a warlord that also knows magic, instead of the others using the magic they learned from them as their forte

Guys guys guys. I thought you’d catch on by now. There is 2 subzeros lol one is evil for the most part. Dies by scorpion and subzeros little bro take on the mantle. He’s the one with the cut through his eye. The original subzero turns into noon saibot. The new subzero wants revenge for his brothers death. That’s why the clans continue to fight

Shao Kahn is the stronger because HE is the one who taught Shang Tsung all that he knows. He's more than just a power house: he's a master of the Dark Arts from hundreds of thousands of years of practicing it. He was stealing souls for power long before Shang Tsung made it his trademark.
These are better than ALL the LIve action movies 🎬 💡👍

You should watch the 1995 and 2021 movie versions as well, if only for comparison sake (but also to hear the awesome theme music of the original and see the brutality of the new version)
A nice detail is that the blood on scorpions face when talking to quan chi looks like a scorpion

Shang Tsung was a human who came under Shao Khan’s wing. Khan taught him how to be a sorcerer and how to steal souls to live long and stay young. Tsung is hundreds and hundreds of years old because of the sorcery taught to him by Khan. Khan is way older than Tsung. Khan is a fighter and sorcerer. Khan was the one who made Tsung young in the second game. Tsung is a bad ass but Khan is even more so.
Patrick Seitz absolutely captured the unstoppable rage of Scorpion, but for me Ron Yuan from MK11 is the best because he adds more dimension to Hanzo.
Also Joel McHale was perfect as Johnny Cage! Oddly One thing that this movie and the original live action Mortal Kombat movie got right is that Johnny Cage is not all talk. Yes he can talk the talk but he also WANTS to walk the walk. He’s talented but you can tell he still busted his ass to become one of the best martial artists in the world.
Joel McHale IS perfect but Andrew Bowen is to "Johnny Cage" what Kevin Conroy to "Batman".

The reason Liu Kang doesn't play a big role in this movie is because there's 4 movies. Liu kang is the main character of the 2nd movie. The 3rd movie is Subzero and kenshi, 4th movie is Johnny Cage but its not out yet.
And if I remember correctly, the fourth movie will come out sometime this year?

There have only been two Sub-Zeros, one at a time. It's their clan, the Lin Kuei, that there are multiple members of.

Theres only two sub-zeros. The ice powers comes from the cyromance race, and you are not automatically called a sub-zero just for being a cyromancer, Frost is a cyromancer but shes isnt called sub-zero.
And being a cyromancer is not a requirement to be in the lin kuei clan, like Sektor, Cyrax, Smoke, Tremor and even Sektor's father, the lin kuei's grandmaster

There's only two sub zeros bi han and quai lang but they are just part of the lin kuei clan which cyrax and sector and smoke are also part of

Decided to finally give this movie a shot to follow this reaction, and I felt the same about it as you two did. I was able to connect with most of the characters, but I was ironically incapable of connecting with Liu Kang, and Scorpion. I somehow managed to feel more for Bi-Han than both of them combined.
I was hoping that at some point Raiden would reveal that he chose those three because in any one of them had the potential to win the tournament and that it would just be a matter who reaches that potential first, with Liu Kang always being the quickest learner.
I get what Jaby says that this felt more like was a cashgrab, cause it certainly felt like it was done for the people that hated the MK10, and 11’s storylines. As if Netherrealm Studios was presenting them an olive branch to tide them over while we get to MK1.
Shao Kahn also welds magic, he was the one who taught skarlet blood magic.
He created Scarlet from blood magic bro 😅🤦 And also created Ermac from soul magic aswell

@@morrays1996Skarlet was a DLC character that first debuted in Mortal Kombat (2011). She was created by Shao Kahn with the use of the blood of the Outworld emperor's fallen enemies and sorcery
@@morrays1996you're right kinda, Skarlet's backstory is retconned in Mortal Kombat 11, revealing she is of Outworlder decent, a starving wretch on the streets of Outworld who was taken in personally by Shao Kahn himself. While the original genetic experiment trait is retconned, she still remains a genetic experiment in a different way, being empowered greatly by Shao Kahn through sorcery, who later taught Skarlet the ways of Blood Magik, becoming a powerful and deadly kombatant in the process.

Scorpion's Revenge & Snow Blind alot better than Battle of the Realms..2nd movie Battle of the Realms was a mess & too many characters in that movie with no depth or development . Battle of the realms felt like an animated MK Annihilation imo

Well achara the new mk movies did new thi ga and that was cole young which every single person who was casual watchers or hardcore fans all agreed that cole was the worst thing in the movie.
The second movie is not as good, especially in the third arc. But the third one is great
