I couldn't agree more. I grew up with all the great shows of the 60's & 70's and loved their theme music, but this one takes the cake for all-time funniest.
Q lets see if I remember the lyrics. la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la hmm I guess I do.
Dick DeBenedictis conducted the music but STAN DANIELS wrote the lyrics. Here he is warming up the audience on the Mary Tyler Moore show th-cam.com/video/eUPWMBZIU0w/w-d-xo.html "Who makes the fog surrounding the Golden Gate simply disappear? Phyllis... Phyllis... Who makes the warning bells on the cable cars play, "The Gang's All Here"? Phyllis... Phyllis... Who charms the crabs on Fisherman's Wharf right out of their shells? Who lights the lamps of Chinatown just by walking in view? Who? Phyllis! Phyllis! Phyllis......it sure isn't you."
My autistic friend pointed this out in his memoir. I thought this was his imagination but you both are correct. Hard to believe the producers didn't change it.
They did something sneaky. They put people in opposite black face and then shot it and processed it in negative. So technically the actors were not in blackface when it was shot. But it still has the same effect.
The 1st time I heard this in the 70s, I was caught off guard by the ending & laughed like hell!
I love it because it's the total flip side of Mary's theme song. Mary can turn the world on with her smile, but Phyllis?
When they sing "it sure isn't you", and her facial expression, I would crack up laughing!!
Rest In Peace Cloris Leachmann!
Meanest theme song ever written. It was perfect.
One of the best show themes ever. The MTM show had so many spin offs.
Stunning intro. "Who makes the warning bells of the cable cars play 'The Gang's All Here' ". Such a quality era, all the way around.
"so many"? Just three.
She was such a hottie ! The women's fashion was great too.
RIP Cloris Leachman
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS THEME SONG AND HER!

Nice counterpoint to MTM's "Who can turn the world on with her smile...etc"
The last part is like the polar opposite of the inspirational and hopefulness of MTM's theme
Fan of TV Themes. This one is a favorite.
There is no love to television themes these days.
LOL Very clever lyrics. You have to listen right to the end.
Most of the opening credits are of Phyllis from the MTM show. 🙂
I love Rhoda's theme too

The chorus line was wearing blackface. Oh lort!

But it still has the same effect.
Unfortunately, to some degree stuff like that was still acceptable in the '70s, minstrel show references and so forth.
Thanks for mentioning it. Shows how far we’ve come.
The footage is from the MGM musical "Babes on Broadway," which ends with a minstrel performance.
Brilliant parody of the "MTM Show" theme song & opening credits.
What a chop!
Great stuff!
There are so many classic TV shows on Pluto TV, why not add this one?
PHYLLIS- no connection with (Felice) Leo(nardo) Buscaglia.
No audio here!
Anyone's got it online ? :D
The music is so JEWY. Ugh!
