Late comment but oh my lord was this video a savior. I was spending way too much time looking for a chunk loader on youtube but then I found your video and it was the only one that worked. Great tutorial, easy to follow, and I swear that this is the only video on youtube that shows a working chunk loader for the latest version of Minecraft. Thank you!
If you are experiencing issues with items only being caught up one way, here's a fix: make sure both portals are facing in the same direction NS/EW = NS/EW. I lost one solid hour understanding that...
Hi! Love this tutorial. Just a note that if it doesnt initially work then you may have to do the chunk loader on both sides of the portal, effectively doubling the cost. Also note evrytime you relog into the world, you must go back to it and double check that it works :)
I recommend placing a chunk loader on both sides of the nether portal but for them to be alternating sides. So that if the nether portal doesn't catch the block which happened for me it'll now catch it and just drop it through the nether portal again.
If this isn't working for you in Java 1.20.1, try and put the whole contraption down by 1 block. That way, the item will actually land in the hopper and not beside it.
Sorry if this is dumb, I'm hella new to this stuff. I was under the assumption that both the portal in the overworld and the portal in the nether loaded chunks around it, giving us a total of 18 loaded chunks. But at 2:31 you mentioned to make sure the portal in the nether is in the same chunk.. So the loaded chunks in the nether isn't based off the portal? I'm a bit lost Q_Q How can i check if the portal in the nether is in the correct chunk for it to work? Other than that, really great video!!
Ohh, so it was about adjusting the nether portal if the chunk i wanted to keep loaded in the nether wasn't close enough to the nether portal I take it. So if I wasn't worried about doing anything in the nether. That is, im only focused on keeping a chunk in the overworld loaded, then I don't need to worry about where the nether portal ends up being I think im starting to understandd. Thank you sooo much for the response. Definitely subbing
I've got a question, by the way it works perfectly in Java edition but won't the item despawn in five minutes? When the item despawns the loader will also stop loading right?
No, because the item inside the hopper isn't an entity. When the item is dropped it is an entity. But when it goes inside the hopper and dropper it is a item and the despawn countdown is reset
In my current world, I've found a swamp with 3 witch huts in relatively close proximity to one another. My goal is to use these chunk loaders to keep all 3 working at the same time even when I'm not in their afk zones. So my question is, will this work the way I want it?

I'm sure is working fine on survival (i haven't tested it though), but on servers is better building the Il Mango 1.19 chunk loader that is incredibly reliable. This one in fact is a compacted version of it.
The item can get stuck very rarely in the portal. Make the portal 3 wide and add another hopper, this will fix it. If you need to know more watch ilmangos video about almost the same chunk loader but not flawed.

To link nether portals take the x and z coords of the portal that is in the overworld, divide them by 8 and build another portal in the nether in the result coords. Y coord doesn't matter.
Thanks again for your video, its working. I wanted to chain link them because the transportation system of my farm with the chunk loader is not within the 3x3 range of the first one. I really need help, i built the Chunk loader on y(150). When i go to nether and return there's a new portal below y150, i mean in the dirt. Please answer
If the portals are not correctly linked, you can link them manually. Divide the overworld coords (z and x) and build the portal in the result coords. Example: overworld coords x:80 z:160. Nether coords x:10 (80/8) z:20 (160/8)

Does the orientation of the portal matters? Cause i found a issue in this design, where the item spits in different side of the portal, and when i switched the collection system, it spit in the other side for another dimension (for example, i built it first, i tried it in the overworld and when i entered the nether, i noticed the item spit on the other side, so i rebuilt the system onto that side, then same thing happened to the overworld part.)
UPDATE: okayy i fixed it, the orientation needs to be the same. So when you built the portal in the overworld, make sure you check where it faces in f3 menu (eg. Facing north/south or east/west). Then build the portal the same way in the nether.
I have a few issues with his farm. When the items come back the swap sides so i had to build this on all 4 sides (overworld and nether) then items would eventually despawn and loader will break. I rotated 3 different item blocks all at once to get it to work. ( stone, cobble, dirt ) the stone and cobble despawned but the dirt stayed there for an hour. Idk why. it is not perfect.
The blocks i put in just dissapeard, any clues? I tried to use two of these to prevent my bonemeal farm from breaking, but the chunk loaders stopped working. Cant put multiple items in it either, what to do?
If it's more than 8 blocks in the overworld from the other portal then yes. Just build another nether portal in the nether with coordinates on overworld divided by 8
When u Restart your World there is the Chance that your item gets Lost. You can build a self fixing chunk Loader or stop and Start all your chunk Loader when u restart your server. :D
