Thanks for the video. Didn't have a steamer, so poured hot down the tube and siphoned out the water. Took a while, but it worked! Also removed the nipple at the base of the drain tube which was junky. Thank you again, took advantage of the moment to clean out behind the fridge. 😀
I don't have a steamer, so I cleaned out my fridge/ freezer and shut it off for 3 hours. I didn't take anything apart. No tools needed. Totally defrosted the inside freezer compartment. Removing that stupid clogged up "boot" on the back side completely solved the water in the fridge issue that has plagued me for a couple of years. You saved me a $199.00 service call. Thank you for posting this video!! Problem solved.
Thanks for the video. I have the exact same freezer set up and your video was a great help. I don't have a steamer so I use a baster with hot water. Took some more time but it worked. Also cleaned out the nipple at the end of the line. Thanks again.
Just wanted to say I tore in to mine thanks to this video. Mine was a tiny bit different but basics were all the same. Thank you for posting this video!
Your video was perfect for the same issue with my Whirlpool. The exact same layout and problem with the rubber reducer at the end of the defrost line. Thank you, and keep up the good work!
THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP IN STOPPING THE WATER LEAKS IN MY WHIRLPOOL REFRIGERATOR. YOU VIDEO GAVE ME GREAT INSTRUCTIONS AND NOW THE WATER FROM THE FREEZER NO LONGER RUNS IN THE BOTTOM OF MY REFRIGERATOR AND OUT INTO THE FLOOR. YOU ARE A GENIUS.
Thanks. Exactly what I needed to know before I spent $149 for service call. I can fix this myself. Thank you so much. I greatly appreciate you continue with your videos. Surely help me save BIG
I'm having the same problem with the same fridge and will get to work following your instructions right now. Thank you very much for the clear, no BS video!
my fridge had been leaking for a year. I saw this video and it fixed the problem. All I did was pour hot water down the drain from the freezer and cleared it right out. Not a leak since. Thanks for your video!
This was incredible! After several attempts, I finally managed to open the back panel and my jaw dropped: The tray wasn't full of water but ice! Like two inches of solid ice. No wonder there was an ocean in my fridge haha. Thank you so much for this tutorial!
I could see heat or Humidity getting into freezer from that drain tube That's the only thing I could see a problem with removing that cap And that's the 1st time I've ever seen a steamer used to D ice freezer that's a good idea--- i used hot water and a Turkey baster good video bro
Same problem, basically the same refrigerator, only the rubber piece which I did remove was filled up with a lint like gunk to the top. Definitely going to wipe down everything that goes into the freezer from now on. Good video.
Bruh!!! This was the perfect video for the same problem. I just have a Maytag. It's probably the same. I followed your suggestions and it worked. Seems like I need to do this bi-monthly almost. I also noticed we over stuff the freezer and fridge.
Never seen a steamer used to do this but looks like a great idea. Any suggestions on what kind to get or where to get them? I’m not familiar with those at all.
I've red that the rubber boot is not actually intended for keep away insects but for limit the entrance of hot/humid air back in the system that come from the bottom evaporation cube. After taking it off is your fridge still working ok?
I was having same leak problem… same whirlpool refrigerator. When I went to go take the grommet/boot off the drain line in the back, I realized it had already been broken off… The piece that hangs from the body of the fridge was just broken off and laying in the drain pan. That piece had been filled with spray foam. Also, the line in the cavity of the fridge was filled with foam. The pan is dry as a bone and clean I bought this secondhand from somebody but it’s only a year and a half old. Is this a factory defect?
What did you use to move the refrigerator? I cannot even reach in the back of the fridge to pull out the plug. Please advise, and thank you. Also, do I need to unplug the fridge when I just work in the freezer part? Can I just leave the temp control in the next lower setting? I don't have an ice maker, so can I still leave the fridge plugged as I work in the freezer portion? Thanks.
I have this problem with freezers here in Washington state all throughout the summer. I don’t know what it is with these whirlpool models that make them constantly do it.
Have my freezer panel off now...removed all of the ice and no steamer. My question/ problem is that water seems to remain in the drain@@ApartmentMaintenancePro
I always take my cover off in the back of the refrigerator and I shut my refrigerator off before I do that and I never had no problems I had to clean the fan and a coral back here good every 6 months

The best video I've seen on this issue. Thank you. This has been ongoing at a rental property and perhaps it is the boot. Will check this afternoon!

Just used your video to fix our fridge tonight! Thank you!! 🎉
Thank you for sharing! Great video.

did you still have to open it up to do that?
Thanks a lot for the video. I followed every step and got rid of all the ice and water. 🔝

Well done video, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks for sharing!! It helps me fix same issue of my fridge!!!
i used both the steamer and a hair dryer.. I found the hair dryer to be more effective in most of the work.
Thank you for saving me the cost of a repair or a new fridge.

Thanks for pointing out the culprit. I'll be doing the fix this weekend.

Great video. I need to get me one of those steamers.

Saved me calling a pro THANK YOU
I did all this, and I'm still getting lots of water puddling... it looks like it's coming from the vent inside the fridge... can you help?
Very helpful and well done video. Any recommendations for clearing the drain line if you don't own a steamer? Thank you.
Unplug the refrigerator and let it thaw 👍 or hot water in a turkey baster, keep refilling with how water once it loses heat
Thank you Sir, did it worked like a charm 👍
If I dont even use ice, could I just leave the ice maker off?
Well I got my first notice too on you it's first time when you load up the video
Outstanding video. Dead 0n. Thank you
Can someone tell me..does that cardboard have to go back on.the back bottom..whats it's purpose..I lost mine
yes it does. Air distribution.
could you use a copper wire as opposed to a brazing rod?
Yes
I took the boot off. Just wondering if the water in tray under boot should be wiped dry?
It will evaporate
Have my freezer panel off now...removed all of the ice and no steamer. My question/ problem is that water seems to remain in the drain@@ApartmentMaintenancePro
How do I drain it thru and do in need to remove that boot thing while trying to flush the drain?
@@TeeRay-ot4us most likely frozen drain, sometimes insulation, food, or other stuff can block it too
I usually dump hot water down the drain but the steamer is a great idea
I used to use a turkey baster with hot water - will still get the job done. I love the steamer though
@@ApartmentMaintenancePro Yes the steamer is faster and more convenient
I should have watched this video first because I definitely burned my finger while pulling out my ice maker!
my new whirlpool doesnt have that cardboard cover on the back😮
It should have a cover, doesn't have to be cardboard just can't be wide open
I always take my cover off in the back of the refrigerator and I shut my refrigerator off before I do that and I never had no problems I had to clean the fan and a coral back here good every 6 months
Hi good morning my fan is not working
