I love your videos for your authenticity and honesty. However, this video made me reflect on how selfish it is to have kids if you DON'T want them... This happens a lot and now we are at a point where I think people are ok with saying that they don't want kids. And that should be enough, no explanations needed - especially for women who have always felt the pressure of this by society and culture, otherwise they might be seen as less than worthy or shamed for it. It's different if you wanted children and for some reason you couldn't - I know many couples like this and my heart feels for them, it's painful. But at the same time, my heart feels happy that it is now more acceptable to choose not to have kids if that is what someone genuinely feels. Children need loving homes and too many people in the world sadly knew that they were not wanted in the first place - including from parents who felt they "should" have kids.

i have no children and im in my 50's and honesty i can care less.. i am very happy with my life. i dont care what people think of me! i know some greeks are notorious for looking down upon to someone who never married or had no kids ..to each its own as they say , everyone is entilted to their opinion..... when i was in my 20's i really wasnt making alot of money , my parents had no money or supported me financially…i did not want my kids to suffer and struggle finacially ....plus i have my freedom, do what i want to do and have no worries about my kids doing drugs or getting invloved with the wrong crowds. alot of people i know my age that are married with kids were supported or got a head start by their parents..Today if you get married , have kids, have a 9-5 job and come from poor parents...rasing a family will be tough!!

Totally agree! I wonder why people care so much about what others do that is not hurting anyone else. There's many reasons why people don't have kids. None of my brothers do nor want to but their reasons are different than mine.

It's not like no one is talking about this. It's been a constant topic since the 90s. Various Greek governments have taken measures to encourage people to have children. The central problem is economic. Housing, wages.

Generations a lot poorer than this one had several children. So the economic argument is not a sound one in my opinion. The real issue is Greeks wanting to maintain a certain standard of living. Its the desire to maintain that standard which causes them to say "I can't afford kids." Which really means, I can't afford to live the way I want to live AND have children.

Maybe as the economic situation improves and continues to improve, Greeks in the US, Australia, UK and other countries will be interested to come home. This would be the best solution. Poles outside Poland have been doing this. Having kids is not always in our hands as women… I wanted, however married after 40 and had endometriosis. There are many in the Greek diaspora who would like to move to Greece as a citizen, yet the embassies and consulates abroad are slowing the process currently.
This is because there are so many currently trying to obtain their citizenship through descent. The greek government could add additional employees or employ AI to streamline this process

I am a 42-year-old single woman. At one point, I wanted to have a baby and was concerned about my biological clock and all the societal pressures that come with it. I told myself, "Okay, I'll have a baby even if it means being a single mother." But then I questioned myself-wouldn't that be selfish? A child deserves a family, at least for a certain part of their life. If I can’t provide that, I would be bringing them into the world already missing something important. Is that fair? No. Just because I don’t want to be alone, or because I fear being sick and having no one to care for me, does that justify bringing a child into the world? Again, no-it’s not fair.
Not everyone is fortunate enough to have children, but that doesn’t mean life lacks meaning. Mine certainly doesn’t. Some people discover themselves through parenthood (and to be honest, some choose it as an easier path rather than seeking their true potential in other areas). But I’ve learned to make my life meaningful without being a parent.
When you spoke about having children, it seemed like you were implying that people can only find their true potential and purpose after becoming parents. I think that’s a very unfair perspective. In fact, I believe that some parents, especially mothers, are unfortunately limiting themselves by solely embracing their role as a parent. Many hide behind motherhood to avoid exploring other aspects of their identity or potential. Some even give up on their careers and life goals, missing the opportunity to discover who they could become through other experiences.
Everyone has a unique role in this world, whether they are parents or not. Many people who never became parents have changed the course of history in profoundly positive ways by finding their purpose outside of parenthood. You made your life meaningful through your choices, but that doesn’t give you the right to say that those who chose differently live less meaningful lives.

Eating only at home, no cable, just the housing and Food is very expensive. I guess the best birth control is how high the cost-of-living is, especially housing.

Well, as a Greek whose sister was a censor in the 2021 census: I wouldn't take the numbers at face value. In our area alone, we know a lot of people who were censors, but never actually bothered to record households. Like, most of my friends and most of my relatives who live outside of Athens never saw any censor or were sent the envelope with the codes to register themselves.

A program that includes some benefits, language and other cultural programs. Reverse the huge outward web a bit. Say for 25 years. Let them settle and re-populate the country. Come on. I’m a senior living in SW Florida for more than 11 years now. When I first bought my house I had mid 20 yr old, married couples on both sides of me already living and working, each couple owning their own homes. Directly across the street is another married couple, now at least 30 yrs old, who had a new home built 6 years ago. NONE of these neighbors have any children, none. 2 couples are probably too old and the 3rd getting there. A big part of this problem happened in the 60’s when women on a large scale were encouraged to persue their own careers and brought into the workforce, no longer paying one parent a livable family wage on a single income. Reducing a worker’s salary by half has paid the rich very well indeed. Greed and breakdown of our nation’s moral law has destroyed our Republic, it’s over.

Hi Mate you missing the point. Most men do not choose to not have children - simply we don't want to start family with midlife partner - and seems nowdays women kind of delay timeline in which they want to start family until mid 30's - which (36 here not Greek - but well situation is universal in whole western world) is little to late to build life together. Tried twice (srsly - twice - engaged and all - and I'm in 10% european earners, good looking etc. - but partners were.... just sad... I was open from the start that I date to have family - they wanted to save the planet (srsly - that was argument - global climate change)) and to be honest my last partner wake up now (1 year after we broke) but well she is 34, it's 2 years too late, I'm in asia traveling the world and looking for my luck on the way - want 3+ children - only chance is to find 10 years younger women - so as a logical beast I moved to countries where such age difference is widely accepted (10/15 years). Modern women in Europe are just like in USA women are trained to not have children until it's almost too late - and it's just sad - because i 100% agree with you - money is never the issue - children are giving fire to fight for - you have somebody to fight for - so money - money you can always get - children only until certain age - people forget that. I meet many, many europeans (some greeks also) here that... simply are doing same things I'm doing - are tired of european culture - and want to try somewhere else (well logical choice after 10+ years of trying to build something with somebody) good earners, intelligent people, some really rich - it's sad that Europe is exporting a lot of young smart people that want to have family - but it is what it is. And they are done with this crazy situation in Europe. It will boom in our face in 20 years once retirement schemes will go down - in all EU countries. Still - in my family only my sister and brother was lucky with partners - to my brother I bought a house once first one was born 2 years ago - I was so happy for this slighly older bastard that I wanted to help them. :) Life without family do not have any sense. Happy for you!

Nicely said, human words indeed, but unfortunately out of the greek context, I'm afraid. There is nothing like having lost your work, not being able to find a new one and having no means to raise your family - stressed, compressed and thrown out. Words can not even describe it effectively. Even if you do not have a family, the daily stress to get the necessary for oneself was even burdened by the capital controls and the 10-years recession that deindustrialised the country. Not to mention the lack of meritocracy on the hunt of a decent job.
A 10-years period is a whole generation to consider, which chose either to follow their dreams and emigrate in search of better living standards or stay in the country and deal with whatever in an often very toxic environment.
I also don't get why the greek population should be higher. Should the country be builded from corner to corner? Or is it just a matter of national security if we consider neighbouring birth-thriving - often religious driven - ravenous countries?
The question is whether we want less and well-being or more and unbearable and it is surely dependent on the natural resources. I think the answer is somewhere in between.
To make things short, apart from the great inner need to evolve on human terms, there has never been an effective plan by the governments that have ruled the country to feel the needs and help the citizens to this end. All measures taken were only short-term and the role of the newly appointed minister for Family and Social Cohesion is just a decorative one.
We're just for laughters and tears. After all, Greece since the ancient times has been expert in Drama (Comedy and Tragedy).

I also waited and waited to complete my education, to become a successful lawyer, to get a house, to become economically independent and now, I am an old man and it is much too late. I missed the boat and its never coming back. It truly is my greatest regret.
Also, I cant help thinking that to be childless is an insult to all our ancestors who struggled and suffered profoundly so that we, you and I, can be here today. It is like telling all of them that everything that they went through was worth nothing; that it was meaningless. Do not make the irreversible mistake that I have made. Please.

There can are many reasons people don’t have children. Some people are not able to conceive and some never even tried because of circumstances that they couldn’t have any impact on.
When you bring children to this world you have to be very mindful. I always say that even donkey’s can have kids. Not everyone is worth or suitable to have children.

This is probably my favorite video of yours. I believe I've become a better person once I had a family. My life has become more meaningful and I am happier today than I was before having a family. I wasn't ready for a family in my twenties, but that's because I had no money and lacked purpose. I now consider myself at that point in my life as a loser.
I've noticed many older people regret not having children. Some people can be selfish and would rather live a hedonistic lifestyle instead.of having.any responsibilities. It's unfortunate that they will never experience the joys that come with having children. It's not easy raising kids, but it can be very rewarding.
Greece has to be careful on the type of immigrants it brings. Having people come with a very different culture/religion can be toxic to the society. Just look at what's happening in all of the Western nations with immigrants not assimilating.
There may be an opportunity to bring Canadian Greeks to Greece as Canada has become unaffordable and not as great of a place to live as it used to be.
    Jordan Peterson gives great advice.

Greece needs to be careful about the type of immigrants it brings 🤔
Yet Greece will happily take tourists spending money during the holiday season 🤔 I wonder how long it’d take for them to beg immigrants regardless of culture/religion to step in if that all stopped because apparently their economy is great 😂
Wow. Region/cultures can be toxic? Hmm. To think an uneducated racist like you is bringing kids into the world puts me off of the idea altogether 🤮
      Grow up.

Let's just say the ultimate Maga. Let's just say the. ultimate mangga! kicked ash and took names. as much as I rebelled against him. I have become him. And by His passing. I took my second breath. To continue his legacy. the generation where the handshake was stronger than the pen Where philotemo Was mentioned in every paragraph. I blame everything on modern education. And it shifts to. politics rather than preparation for life. Media propaganda. Internet. Western universities.. Where they teach you to be selfish. where they teach you. these lies about overpopulation.. I tend to spread not only my last name. but the Greek legacy. Our ancestors fought so hard for. otherwise. the Arabs and the Muslims will take over. because they have always. put family as the forefront. which is congruent. with the laws of nature.. Critical theory. brought over by people like Mancuzzo. is rampant. in our educational system. Even if you don't believe in God. there is universal truth to sin. Every religion has it. We must come back to our moral values and families. and family structure. Otherwise we will self extinct. or wake up every morning. singing. Allah Akbar.! And I am not degrading. the Muslims. I'm actually quite envious. But I was born Greek Orthodox. like markos botsaris.athanasios diakos And my personal favorites katsantonis! who killed veli gekas I actually went to the river that. he leaped to avoid Turks. And when they tried to leap it they drowned. He was my personal hero. Well, it helps that his name was antonis also

I can tell you right now. growing up in the 60s and 70s was the rise of the me generation. The motto was never trust anybody over 40. They wanted to live forever. not knowing. that different stages in life. are meant. for certain types of evolution. Throwing the exception out. It's OK if you want to argue. and maybe the ones that don't want kids don't deserve. this luxury. because kids are good luck. through their children. You will. find the strength to be a better person of you. And Jordan Peterson is right. You really, really never mature. until you have kids. I didn't want to have kids. I was the perpetual teenager. Driving fast cars, drinking beer and chasing girls. and getting into fights. on the weekend. And if I could. drink at a club Meet a girl and get into a fight I became all my friends heroes. But guess what? I also used to wear diapers. and I outgrew them. I went to college It couldn't wait to get out at the end. Happiness. is giving the most miserable people I know. are the richest people. They're the ones that create problems. because they have nothing to strive for. Except more money. Consumerism and materialism. is. the modern day god

Today, the reasons for increasing population are wrong. Just because we live in a system that constantly demands an increase in the use of resources and GDP, while demanding covering retirement benefits, doesn't mean we have to rely on population increase indefinitely. Maybe this new reality will force us to change, maybe accepting more immigration, training, ai, who knows. But asking for more people to keep up with the madness is irresponsible.
