Ive been starting to enjoy simic ramp thanks to Sonio. Its great seeing your take on it CGB.
Sonio is amazing. He's taught me so much patience, i just watch him seemingly lay down and die in games then, turn around and just crush opponents.
You can always check the sideboard mid-game by clicking on your deck and then on the sideboard button 😁

The reason Jin-Gitaxias is in the deck is because its a Sonio deck, so it has a mandatory Jin-Gitaxias/Invasion of Arcavios tax.

@@HaleG9 deck builders often have cards they like to play, even though they aren't "omg top tier meta card". If everyone played only the best meta stuff, 100% of the bo1 ladder would be monored aggro.

Jin Gitaxias saved my butt several times in the Praetors Realm breaker deck. Opponent tried a boardwipe, the Jin said "no". So yeah, useless card... Duh!

Great video. Sonio is the king of nonbos. Clearly he knows how to work around them or something...he seems to make most of his decks work, sort of. I rarely can.

That esper match was just annoying to watch. Constant board wipes and counters with nothing to show for on the board. I like this simic deck way better cos it has interaction on the board with counter/bounce protection.

I know this ramp pain. Have started playing an OmWrath HB deck, 45 lands, ramp falling out of the 1-2-3 hole, with a few top end bombs from 5-7. And ye there are sooooo many games where I draw nothing but the top end and no way to get to it, or have to mull to 5 to get anything more than 2 lands in hand. Shuffler be fine haha

Sorry for your pain, glad to see i'm not the only one who gets clowned by the shuffler... this is why people play low curve decks... it doesn't go big, but it usually goes.
Sonio always has really really cool decks, but iny experience the shuffler always gets the nest of me when i try to play them

54:31 Should have kept this one. Three draws to get a green source for double Topiary Stomper and they seem good against much of the meta. Especially monored ;) Three draws with maybe 40% of the library green sources.

This video had all the pain and all the glory of playing a ramp deck in the current standard. Just does not work. Nope, he didn't break it. It's just another deck that is good enough to play and have the matchmaker try to keep you 50/50 with.

CGB is perfect for a variety of competitive standard decks, Sonio is perfect for shit that’s so over the top and janky it works (sometimes)
I'm not 100% sure, but I think mono red, and agro in general, is a lot more popular on ladder than in events, because ladder incentivizes high volume over high win rate, whereas events incentivize high win rate over high volume.
mono red decks have high win rates though
@@J.Tarrou Sort of. Usually the best agro decks in standard have around a 60% win rate, but that is an average win rate over the entire player pool. Those averages are probably closer to the win rate ceiling for agro decks than for more mid-range and controlling type decks.
In any case, even when all other things are equal, there is much more incentive for high volume on ladder vs. events. It's possible to get to mythic without even having a 50% win rate with enough volume due to backstops and variance. In events, losing just loses.
I agree with your logic, but I think I've actually witnessed the inverse - more aggro in events than on ladder.
I think a lot of it has to do with events being one of the best ways to build a collection and there's a lot of newer players stuck with mono-colored aggro piles as their one decent deck.

Titan just doesn't feel strong enough especially with Fable getting banned. This version ramp suffers from not being able to remove opposing creatures reliably early on, idk how it doesn't get steamrolled by mono red or soldiers
titans still fun to fight rig reanimate but yeah think youre correct thisll get mowed down cant just rely on only fading hope early

Standard events run 24/7. Just queue up in the client

azusa is so shiet since it doesn't get you the land for the land drop it really hurts to use the card, the domain one is better in this deck
Or play the 2 mana Preordain with kicker that lets you play an extra land.

You should do a challenge where you play mono red but you can’t see what your opponents play until you win. Mono red players anyways barely pay attention to their opponents plays
