I love brawl! Brawl was actually the first format I got into on Arena and is why I first started watching your content. Of course at the time I didn't know you were mostly standard content and I eventually got into standard because of you. Long winded way of saying thanks CGB!
Ok, i'll do it myself. I miss it, alright? "LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, GET READY FOR COMBOS, TRIGGERS, COMMANDERS.....MONKEEEEEEEEEEEY. THIS IS [HISTORIC] BRAWL"
commenting to say that i love these kind of deck techs for brawl as an intro. because its a singleton format, there are so many uniquely valuable one-ofs that I'd never know the reasoning behind without it
Something CGB didn’t mention about brawl is that its matchmaking is somewhat based on the cards in your deck and the commander you choose. In general, the more powerful the cards you run and especially the more powerful the commander you run, the likelyhood of you encountering decks running the same type of thing increases. This means that your jank pile you threw together in 5 minutes is almost certainly going to compete with similar powered opponents.
@@Senumunu Take Mana Drain and The One Ring out of your deck and you'll stop getting hell queue matchups. The only repeat commanders I've gotten matched up against in the last 2 weeks is Arabella and Heir Apparent and thats mostly due to how dirt cheap they are to make. The only top tier commander I've matched against was Kinnan, but that was only because the queue took almost 4 minutes to pop
CGB: "How do I get rid of this Metroplis Reformer? Also CGB: Scrys Eaten by Pirahnas to bottom at beginning of turn. Classic CGB. BRAWL SUPREMACY. Keep the brawl content coming pls.
At 28:50 the reason Elesh Norn doesn't mess with Sagas is because their abilities are tied to the counters being put on them, and the first counter being put on a saga as it enters is not a triggered ability.
I would love for Brawl to get a ranked ladder, but it's honestly great how the lack of one makes conceding really easy. So many decks out there are just a slog to play against and I just gg out when I see the swimming-thru-value-molasses coming
@@voltcorp I never scoop for two reasons./. 1: On the offhand your opponent does not have the win, they spin for nothing. There have been tournament games where the opponent stuck it out and ended up being victorious when the spin player didn't find the line. 2: Free entertainment! Get the popcorn, a big gulp soda...heck, run the dishwasher while they go!! lol
I'm coming back to Arena after a two years iatus. The perspective of a five years worth extension gave me confidence. But I'm way behind in standard, so brawl is my actual jam. Keep in the good work.
This was indeed needed! I've been thinking about trying Brawl out and this is just the kick I needed to start. Thanks so much!! I'm a little overwhelmed at the back catalog of cards on Arena I never bought packs for but you gotta start somewhere! Thanks again!
Watched all the intro, its super intresting to see why some cards are chosen and some not, its really helpful to understand the deck entirely so i can enjoy the games even Better, GG Cgb
Wait, Utter Insignificance is insane. I have a few copies of this type of effect in my commander deck with Sugar Coat, the clue one, and Imprisoned in the Moon, but with Utter Insignificance you can exile the creature at instant speed if they try to remove the enchantment. They would need to desteoy the enchantment with something that has split second or counter the activated ability to stop it. I still think that Imprisoned in the Moon is the best because there's no easy way to return the commander to the command zone (like chump blocking with the creature ones or saccing the clue/food/treasure token it gets turned into).
I like your argument for Brawl, man. it's awesome. Probably the best way to play on arena. But yeah I've always liked your brawl content man. And if you colab, all the better! I'll watch any of the brawl stuff 😊
sagas get around Elish norn's trigger block because the trigger isn't coming from the saga entering, it comes from the lore counter being added. Also, since the lore counter is added *as* it enters, and isn't a triggered ability, that isn't stopped by Elish either.
It sucks that brawl videos don’t do well, because they’re the most entertaining to watch. I even play it in the BG while I work, then actually watch it later.
I did this after I got this Jayce, but I put a couple of clear win conditions and a lot of mill effects, first to myself and at the end against the opponent. Probably I will change my mono blue Brawl deck after the Midweek Magic event of this week.
And many decks have many overlapping cards. So you can slowly build towards a colour combination and then its easy to try our many different commanders in that colours
You dont. Brawl decks are scrap decks. Choose a Commander, build the 4-6 rare and mytic staples it needs to work, the couple of must have commons (like arcane signet) and the rest just build with what you have. If you like the comander, polish the deck. If not, try another and repeat.
just yesterday I build a pretty similar jace deck (on a budget, so I'm missing about half the mythics whoops) but what it does include is other meme wincons like triskaidekaphile so I have had a bit of a bumpy run with this deck but having the option to take 5 extra turns and even more with my jaces to get the 13 hand trigger is also delightfully devillish
The biggest thing holding me back from brawl is the lack of cards, I feel I can't spend resources on the old cards since I have to try and keep pace with just standard. Maybe with pioneer masters packs I can try and open some of those and build a pioneer collection which will eventually lead to a growing non standard collection I can play towards brawl. At least you only need 1 of each card lol
The power creep made it a lot worse But it is the only format I play I recommend you try to make a deck that dodges hell que but isn't to one dimensional like mono red. Xanathar and kind lord are my most played decks
The problem people have with brawl is they compare it to commander. Its a more competitive thing because its 1v1 and online against random people. But if you think of it the same way as other competitive 1v1 formats all of a sudden its good. The only real bad part is decks require a lot of cards you probably dont have.
Brawl needs a ranked queue just to get people to not scoop on turn 2 constantly. Put some weight behind the loss, otherwise it feels so difficult to actually get a game with more than a few turns.
Brawl best format! Jace best blue boy! I've been playing a Nael, Avizoa Aeronaut Brawl deck and it's a fun time. There are like six cards that let you enable full domain for her in a simic deck. A flier that lets you grab your best card from the top five of your library when it hits face is super rewarding, even when it needs a bit of setup. I'm playing it as a ramp + extra turns deck, complimented by a bunch of bounce spells to get you there. When you get to the late game, Shigeki + Regrowth + Time Warp is infinite extra turns if you've got 13 lands which isn't difficult when you're ramping and hitting land drops on each of your turns and extra turns.
And pro tip, gamers: As long as you're running a mid or low tier commander and running very few instants, Arena tries to avoid putting you against high tempo counterspell piles (which own a deck like this). There are videos on TH-cam explaining Brawl's card weighting and matchmaking system.
I’d love to try Brawl, but I don’t have many cards from historic sets. So, I play the Standard Brawl format instead, though the deck-building options feel quite limited.
Personally I hate that low to the ground strategies feel so bad in brawl because there’s less aggressive consistency, and the answers are the best of the best . It feels like most of the queue is ramp into large game winning spell, peppered with typal synergy and oops all counterspells tempo
CGB Struggling with Metropoli Angel but sent to bottom Eaten by piranhas which makes angel lose their ability to bring hexproof the opponent, so he could rebuke opponent sooner.
Gotta say, I am not a big fan of the Brawl rythme. It looks like, when you get the upper hand first, you win. From the outside, it seems there is far less back and forth than in a BO3 Standard for example
Also I really dont understand the hate coming to brawl? Its great you can play almost any and everything you would ever want. Go wide, Go tall, combo, tokens, sacrifice, control of many flavors, graveyard decks, zombies(ilovezombies) you name it I can go on and on its a great format in my opinion. I think the client could support four way brawl to make it command if they wanted, I am sure it has the backend and they also have the money and think of how fun it would be. But for now the 1v1 is just as good
Fun fact, in the official Arena Discord, all the brawl players will write a 10 page thesis about how bad rhystic study is in brawl 😂 It's hilarious any time someone mentions running it or smothering tithe.
you gotta try Brawl, it's sooooooo good
It's the only format I enjoy anymore.
Any place to look for decks? Kinda don't know most old cards, so don't really know what to brew with. Great video as always!
Love your Brawl vids CGB! It's my favorite content that you create.
I've made Teysa of the Ghost Council, Rusko, and Muxus. Really enjoy the format

I'm glad CGB is back to Brawl. Amazonian is great, but you can only unlock the full potential of brawl when you understand that fun is a zero-sum game
As someone who recently started with the Brawl format I can say that it has been a huge breath of fresh air.
Brawl is so much better than standard, more please

I think this was true a year or so ago. Today there are no junk pike opponents left imo
But junk pile is a term with quite a wide definition.

Fully behind your endorsement of Brawl. Love using the channel to get more people interested! Great energy!
Love your brawl videos, idk why more people don't play this format!
I appreciate the deck tech, especially for Brawl! There are so many lines and complex situations to think about, and it's always great to see.

I can't express how much I appreciate the long deck tech. Thanks CGB
Your yorion videos got me into magic :3.
I played over 1000 Yorion brawl matches because of you!
This is the sort of detail to might get me to try this.

You’ve convinced me to try Brawl. I found myself not having fun otherwise, so I’m excited to give it a go.

Im not a huge Arena video watcher, this was a BLAST to watch. What a funny deck strategy. Please cook up more weirding for us!
Outside of the first month where I tried standard when I first got into magic, I have only ever played Historic Brawl
Same. Standard is just not worth it.
Aetherling was my favorite card back in the days when it was legal in Standard. I'd love to see it in this deck

I love the long-winded intro! Maybe a time stamp, though, for the people who just want to see the games could be a good compromise!
How do I craft alllll of this stuff though
Make more money and spend said money.
Build into it slowly like you would any other format. In the end, it helps a lot that you just need one of each card
And many decks have many overlapping cards. So you can slowly build towards a colour combination and then its easy to try our many different commanders in that colours

You need only 1 decent deck.
All the colors basically play the same op cards from the last 3 years. + a few old all stars.

I'm not sure that being the best format for best of one is much of an achievement... But I'll hear you out.
