I love brawl! Brawl was actually the first format I got into on Arena and is why I first started watching your content. Of course at the time I didn't know you were mostly standard content and I eventually got into standard because of you. Long winded way of saying thanks CGB!
Ok, i'll do it myself. I miss it, alright? "LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, GET READY FOR COMBOS, TRIGGERS, COMMANDERS.....MONKEEEEEEEEEEEY. THIS IS [HISTORIC] BRAWL"

Watched all the intro, its super intresting to see why some cards are chosen and some not, its really helpful to understand the deck entirely so i can enjoy the games even Better, GG Cgb
Something CGB didn’t mention about brawl is that its matchmaking is somewhat based on the cards in your deck and the commander you choose. In general, the more powerful the cards you run and especially the more powerful the commander you run, the likelyhood of you encountering decks running the same type of thing increases. This means that your jank pile you threw together in 5 minutes is almost certainly going to compete with similar powered opponents.
@@Senumunu Take Mana Drain and The One Ring out of your deck and you'll stop getting hell queue matchups. The only repeat commanders I've gotten matched up against in the last 2 weeks is Arabella and Heir Apparent and thats mostly due to how dirt cheap they are to make. So real. I've played against Esika//Prismatic Bridge players a few times before on Arena. Now that I'm running her for my super friends deck, I have run into countless people playing her.
At 28:50 the reason Elesh Norn doesn't mess with Sagas is because their abilities are tied to the counters being put on them, and the first counter being put on a saga as it enters is not a triggered ability.
the long intro reminds me of the old days.... it was honestly so nice :) and Brawl is my favorite content of yours; i don't play myself just because of all the crafting since i didn't start playing until 2021(?) and some of the staples/personal faves would be a lot to invest in (though, probably just excuses at this point). however, definitely LOVE watching you play!! and it's for sure a breath of fresh air from the same 'ol boros or mono red turn 4 death on Standard ladder. PLUS, i also find you, and myself, smiling more- who knew there was still genuine enjoyment in the game? lol. i really hope more ppl will give it a try, even in regards to just watching
I would love for Brawl to get a ranked ladder, but it's honestly great how the lack of one makes conceding really easy. So many decks out there are just a slog to play against and I just gg out when I see the swimming-thru-value-molasses coming
@@voltcorp I never scoop for two reasons./. 1: On the offhand your opponent does not have the win, they spin for nothing. There have been tournament games where the opponent stuck it out and ended up being victorious when the spin player didn't find the line. 2: Free entertainment! Get the popcorn, a big gulp soda...heck, run the dishwasher while they go!! lol
@@Intellectualfreethinker point n 1 is the reason I said not being ranked matters. of course in a competitive situation you always stick to your outs. and point 2 I guess I have more fun playing another game than watching my opponent play solitaire lol also maybe wotc gathers that data and sends their deck to hell queue and leaves my jank alone haha
It makes sense that Brawl is the most fun 1v1 format, because it takes the things that make Commander fun and puts them in a duel to death. When I first started on MTGA, I didn't want to spend money yet, so after learning the game and trying to grind my way up the Standard ladder, without just netdecking and grinding Red Deck Wins, I figured out that the most efficient way to play the game f2p was Standard Brawl. You only need 1 of each card, meaning that it costs 1/4 the wildcards, whether you are still collecting the cards or have one of each. It's very easy to make changes or upgrades to your deck by only spending a few wildcards. And I'm thankful I did that, because I quickly learned that I enjoyed the mechanics of Brawl way more than regular constructed. The standard brawl decks I used back then hold a special place in my heart. (My commanders were mainly Liesa, Forgotten Archangel/Kaya, Intangible Slayer and Falco Spara, Pactweaver) I still enjoy playing standard brawl to this day, but after I started to spend a little bit of money and played a _lot_ of limited, which helped to actually grow my collection, I've given actual historic Brawl a chance, and it's been fun. Despite their mechanical similarity, historic Brawl and Standard Brawl are two very different formats. I personally like the general experience of Standard Brawl a bit more, but historic Brawl definitely has its own charms. I played a Helga, Skittish Seer historic brawl deck after Bloomburrow came out, and that was a great time. In Standard Brawl, I chose Baylen as my commander at the time, and that was probably some of the most fun I've ever had with the game outside of playing commander or custom formats with friends. I didn't use Baylen as my historic brawl commander because I felt like it was a bit too degenerate of a deck, and Helga didn't have as much of a fun deck available in Standard Brawl. Edit: changed "shroud of dusk" to "forgotten archangel"
Also, another thing I like about the current state of historic Brawl, is that the best deck in the format is built around a card I personally really like. Eluge is a very, very strong card in commander/brawl, but I still just like it, anyways, despite being someone who usually doesn't like the most powerful cards. I play it in one of those "I promise it's not gonna be busted, this time, I swear" commander decks, and it's very fun. Eluge is also super fun as a hidden commander, especially when paired with Xolatoyac. I have a Kianne, Corrupted Memory commander deck where the whole point is that it's actually a secret Eluge + Xolatoyac deck. I'm not gonna play it in a competitive format, myself, but it's nice that the deck I would usually be the most annoyed to play against is instead one that I'm happy to see.
This was indeed needed! I've been thinking about trying Brawl out and this is just the kick I needed to start. Thanks so much!! I'm a little overwhelmed at the back catalog of cards on Arena I never bought packs for but you gotta start somewhere! Thanks again!
I'm coming back to Arena after a two years iatus. The perspective of a five years worth extension gave me confidence. But I'm way behind in standard, so brawl is my actual jam. Keep in the good work.
I’ve been playing around aetherize in brawl so much since it came out and they never have/run it, thanks for getting the word out so I’ll stop feeling unnecessarily paranoid
omg thank you for explanation in the beginning of the video. i was curious of your brawl vids, but all the time i gave em a try, i just didn't understand anything
Wait, Utter Insignificance is insane. I have a few copies of this type of effect in my commander deck with Sugar Coat, the clue one, and Imprisoned in the Moon, but with Utter Insignificance you can exile the creature at instant speed if they try to remove the enchantment. They would need to desteoy the enchantment with something that has split second or counter the activated ability to stop it. I still think that Imprisoned in the Moon is the best because there's no easy way to return the commander to the command zone (like chump blocking with the creature ones or saccing the clue/food/treasure token it gets turned into).
I like your argument for Brawl, man. it's awesome. Probably the best way to play on arena. But yeah I've always liked your brawl content man. And if you colab, all the better! I'll watch any of the brawl stuff 😊
As I have never played brawl I definitely like the long intros as a lot of these cards I have not seen or played. On combo decks would definitely prefer the intro and deck tech.
It sucks that brawl videos don’t do well, because they’re the most entertaining to watch. I even play it in the BG while I work, then actually watch it later.
Sol'kanar terrifies me as a commander. It has such a strange deck. I still remember seeing it for the first time in Standard Brawl, after playing many, many games, and not even knowing it exists, let alone that it's standard legal.
sagas get around Elish norn's trigger block because the trigger isn't coming from the saga entering, it comes from the lore counter being added. Also, since the lore counter is added *as* it enters, and isn't a triggered ability, that isn't stopped by Elish either.
And many decks have many overlapping cards. So you can slowly build towards a colour combination and then its easy to try our many different commanders in that colours
You dont. Brawl decks are scrap decks. Choose a Commander, build the 4-6 rare and mytic staples it needs to work, the couple of must have commons (like arcane signet) and the rest just build with what you have. If you like the comander, polish the deck. If not, try another and repeat.
just yesterday I build a pretty similar jace deck (on a budget, so I'm missing about half the mythics whoops) but what it does include is other meme wincons like triskaidekaphile so I have had a bit of a bumpy run with this deck but having the option to take 5 extra turns and even more with my jaces to get the 13 hand trigger is also delightfully devillish
I did this after I got this Jayce, but I put a couple of clear win conditions and a lot of mill effects, first to myself and at the end against the opponent. Probably I will change my mono blue Brawl deck after the Midweek Magic event of this week.

At least you only need 1 of each card lol

You need only 1 decent deck.
All the colors basically play the same op cards from the last 3 years. + a few old all stars.
