Gail -I got so excited when you said the drumsticks are from Mickey Dolenz - he was my favorite Monkee! So sad the other 3 have passed. You certainly have an interesting life! Thanks for sharing all of your treasures and memories!
So much fun. Thanks for sharing. Great mix of treasures. In the early 90's I rented Mr. Dolenz cars four times and was proud that he chose me to rent from. He could have rented from the Airport but he would take a shuttle to the hotel my Hertz booth was at and would rent from me to drive to visit his sister. The last time I saw him he gave me an awesome card with a hundred dollar bill in it. He's a kind soul just like you two. Many blessings.
Wow Gail how amazing that you worked for the Monkees, I loved watching their show back in the day, and this video is absolutely fascinating, attic mudlarking love it, tfs x Julie
Wow! You and I could be a backup girl band of the Monkees. Definitely my boy band. I went to a band performance in VA with Peter (my favorite), Davy and Mickey in the early 2000's. I bought my tambourine then. Sadly, most have passed away😢
Gail, that vase looks very similar to one my granny had, and I now own. Mine is Parian Ware. Mine is just the bisque color, no blue. Could possibly be Wedgewood. Have you found out what it is?
I love how you casually toss out tidbits like "when I worked for the Monkees" or that you had worked on a Time Team dig. It would be fun to here some stories of you adventures up to now. Its always fun to go through old boxes and either fall in love with something all over again or are ready to let it go. Thanks for taking us along.
Love your hair cut, Gail! Bwami doctrine is represented by wood and ivory masks, heads, and small figures, all of which play a vital role during initiation into the society's highest grades. Although simple in form, these carved objects embody complex and multiple meanings, elaborated through proverbs, skits, and dances. In the forests of Democratic Republic of the Congo art is created primarily for semisecret associations of men and women, such as the Bwami society of the Lega peoples. The teachings of Bwami permeate all aspects of life, guiding the moral development of the individual and governing relations with others. Bwami doctrine is represented by wood and ivory masks, heads, and small figures, all of which play a vital role during initiation into the society's highest grades. Although simple in form, these carved objects embody complex and multiple meanings, elaborated through proverbs, skits, and dances. For the Lega, physical beauty and moral excellence are inseparable. The dotted-circle motifs on many Lega works represent body markings, which enhance both the carvings and the characters they depict. The smooth polished surfaces of these sculptures allude to the refined and perfected nature of the Bwami initiate.
Can't wait to see the rest of your attic - then will we see what may be hidden in the loft?! The figurines are so beautifully detailed. I can see them on a book shelf in a school room. Gail - we are slowly learning what an adventurous, artful life you've lead so far. Alex - u are blessed in your mother & home. Thanx for sharing your latest adventures w/us.
About the painting, you can tighten the canvas by wetting a clean broard brush and brushing the back. When it dries it'll tighten the fibres of the fabric and give it back the spring. Depending on the severity of the dent, it can remove it completely. Don't drench it but moisten it. You can repeat the process several times. I've used the wet brush technique on many canvases and my own paintings over the years. Learned the trick at art school. If you don't want to do it yourself, I'm sure there's an art studio or conservationist that would help :) It's a really nice painting. It's a shame it's not on a wall somewhere :) Ps. The carved figurines are beautiful
I loved this video. It's good to change things up a bit. The info on the figures from the Congo was so interesting. We need that type of teaching of respect in today's Society. Keep up the great content.
How amazing to have so much history under your roof. Do take time deciding what to do with your treasures. When I was a teenager we had neighbours who had just come back from the Belgian Congo. (1960s). I love the sheep scull. Imagine hanging it above your Congolese carvings. It’s always a treat to watch your channel. Thank you.
THATS A PRETTY PICTURE IT CAUGHT MY EYE FIRST THING.THERE IS A LOT OF ITEMS STORED IN THAT ATTIC ROOM. YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU WILL FIND IN AN ATTIC IT WAS NICE TO SEE WHAT WAS STORED AWAY.
That was fun...I think the memories of the Monkies was my favourite...brings back alot of fond memories even in Australia..Davey Jones was my pin up guy ,but I thought they were all nice guys...😊 thanks for the walk down memory lane..😊❤
Ladies, this is so much fun to watch …. The drumsticks! I love the Monkee’s wow Gail that’s amazing. I do love the royal figurines, the detail on those faces, just incredible! Treasures! You know I always thought Alex resembles the actress Hailey Mills! And now looking at the picture you shared of Gail young, now Gail really looks like Hailey to me! Wow, but totally Alex and mom look alike! Lovely….all your finds incredible, treasures! But I’d love the royal figurines….wow I live so far away to visit the auction for one of them! Just lovey…take care and thank you for sharing your attic! Be well…greetings from California 🌷
Thank you Alex and Gail for showing us the inner sanctum of your wonderful old home and sharing some memories as you unearthed long forgotten treasures and STUFF!!
Yes! I am SO excited to you guys in the attic looking at stuff! Love the history and love to see your rooms, derelict or not. You teo are so blessed! ❤ 4:26 The oil painting looks like it’s from the mid 18th century; however, landscape paintings were still very popular through the 19th century, so you should have that one appraised and conserved. It would be beautiful in Alex’s room!
I think there is nothing more interesting than a box full of all sorts of things. Mostly forgotten about. Pow, open them up and treasures from your past and sometimes from your parents past come back to life. Along with memories. I loved looking through your boxes. I absolutely loved your little figure's and felt so sad finding out about the people that made them. Thinking of where they came from. That was disturbing. Traditions and a people destroyed. Heart rending and so tragically sad. On a birghter note, if you manage to restore your loft, I'd be so interested to see what you do with the spaces up there. Though I'm sure you have more important things to do first. Its nice to dream though. Of things in the futcher. ❤ Thanks so much for sharing. Lastly, that candle stick you made at 19 yrs old, was so wonderful to see. Once a crafter/artist, always one. I loved the thought of using a branch from a loved tree. I'm looking at our Victoria plum tree thinking...mmm could i. 😂 xx
Loved the pen rest. That is something I would have thought of buying. Can I suggest, as you seem to be somewhere near Glasgow, that you contact Anita Manning auction house. Ms. Manning, or someone at her auction house should be able to advise you on the African figureens. I know you are not thinking of selling, but they could offer advice. Just a thought. Looking forward to the next episodes on both your channels.
Gail, you worked for the Monkees! My mum used to follow them in the 60’s (I think she preferred Mike Nesmith) and as kids we grew up watching the repeats of the series on TV (we now have them on DVD) we loved them. My mother actually cried on Davy Jones’s shoulder as our car had just been stolen when we attended a panto he was in in the early eighties (it was in Luton). A shame Micky is the only one left alive. I personally would love the drumsticks…. It is amazing what you find when you rummage and memories come back, I did it with my Lego, but your rummage is on another level.
That was amazing, i would love to rummage through an old attic to find treasures. Great video. Take care and thank you for sharing your attic treasures 👍🙏❤️
How fun it was to see your treasures and hear your stories! You two are so much fun!! I was fortunate to see the Monkees in 1987 and they made a stop at the local record store for autographs. But the place Was jammed and it was pandemonium!! I got a few pictures of them behind the store gate and I was in heaven!im so jealous Gail you got to work with them! How exciting!! And those drumsticks….sticks-$$$, memories-priceless!
You gals are always so incredibly interesting to watch, I enjoy the Lost Tower Diaries as well! Alex I was very proud of you when you rebuilt the tractor mower, you can do anything when you put your mind to it!Looking forward to you finishing your bedroom refurbishment! Gail you did a great job rebuilding the stone walls! Thanks for sharing your adventures!,,,
To reduce the dent in your painting spray warm water on the back of the dented area and let dry in a warm area. Repeat until you get the desired result. Love your channel! From a fellow treasure hunter!
Think my favourite of all your attic treasures has to be the adorable little metallic wren trinket holder. I'm a collecter of wrens so beautiful to see. Also love all the other treasures you found too. Thanks for sharing your memories with us xxx
You should definitely reach out to a museum like the Smithsonian, or try to find one that already has a collection of those figurines, or you can get them appraised. Thanks for sharing 🙌
*Alex & Gail, awesome video 🙂 Gail I am so interested in your earlier years now since you got those drumsticks from Mickey Dolenz of 'The Monkees' fame. Did you get to meet any of the others from the band? it is a shame that he never signed them when he gave them to you. 🙂Wow what an incredible collection that has been hidden away for so many years, now I want to see more.... and yep declutter and sell/auction off what you no longer need or want. 🙂 Gail that earlier snapshot of you when you were younger 🙂 Those figurines, yes find out more on them and get them valued... especially if they are indeed Ivory. As Ivory is no longer exported out of African countries now.🙂.*
I absolutely am in love with that sword I collect knives even though my kids don’t care for it I would have a great time going through those rooms I love that kind of adventure this was a wonderful video thank you so much for sharing a part of your life we usually don’t get to see it was nice to see it was a lot of fun ❤❤❤❤
I’ve dampened the canvas back of paintings before to resolve dents. As it dries the canvas will return to its original shape. Of course, it would depend on the value of the painting as to if I would attempt this. 😊
I really love seeing your house and your old treasure. If the Congolese figures are valuable sell them to highest bidder and use the money towards the reno of your fabulous house 😊
The Magic Eye still works....just as you showed the first page on camera my eyes went into the mode needed to see the "magic" picture! Great fun but after going through page after page of that book, many years ago, I ended up with a terrifically nasty migraine!
Gail -I got so excited when you said the drumsticks are from Mickey Dolenz - he was my favorite Monkee! So sad the other 3 have passed. You certainly have an interesting life! Thanks for sharing all of your treasures and memories!
Gail used to work with them if I am correct x
I was 6 when the Monkees tv show came on and I couldn’t decide if I was going to marry Mickey or Davey. How fun that you got to work with Mickey!
Alex we want to see you in that Magazine! Please show us.
It’s sealed
Who doesn't like a 300 year old attic filled with valuable goodies! I LOVED it. Thank you so much lovely Ladies xx Teresa 🇦🇺♥
@@concerned430 I know that thank you Captain Obvious - I've been following these ladies for a very very long time.

Who ever made your Lega family was a master carver. I think you have something very special there.
I love that painting. I hope it can be restored and framed. That's what I envision a lost tower to look like.
Try wetting the back of the canvas, when it dries it may shrink and flatten. Hello from michigan.
Antiques roadshow here we come. Loved rummaging with you.
If you love them, then they're in the right home.
Imagining that room as a cabinet of curiosities for finds and memories
It’s wonderful being with you both on memory lane

I was expecting vintage Christmas ornaments to be in the box. Surprise, royalty! Thanks ladies.
I adore digging in attics and cellars, love finding those hidden treasures. Thank you for sharing, looking forward to seeing all the attic treasures.
I could watch you go through every box easily .! A game of bin or keep is what you need x
Oh absolutely Sarah! We could do with your help 😄
@ don’t let me take anything home !! lol
I loved this vid. Thanks for showing us some of your previously found treasures and sharing the stories that came with them.
I hope you keep us up to date with the figures. How exciting!
What a fantastic attic! I have to go to my 104 yr old uncles house this week to help clean it out, hope I can find treasures like this!!

A loft? Above the attic? I'm there for that!

This is the best way to get organized! Searching for treasures that could bring in extra money! Who knows what you'll find!
I couldn’t part with the little figures, they’re precious!

"Feck off!" Lol
That’s what I noticed too 😂😂😂😂
Me too! 😂
Is Father Jack in your attic...hide the DRINK...lol
Those figures kind of remind me of the statues on Easter Island.
Think my favourite of all your attic treasures has to be the adorable little metallic wren trinket holder. I'm a collecter of wrens so beautiful to see. Also love all the other treasures you found too. Thanks for sharing your memories with us xxx
I met the monkees , a big fan as well.
The swords actually didn't surprise me. We, too, have swords, but they are practice and formal swords for doing the sword dance. 😂❤ 🇨🇦❤️
I’m sure I’ll have other questions but Gail, you worked for the Monkies? And Alex, you were in a magazine…do tell ladies!!!
What a fun trip into your attic! I loved the wooden boxes with the inlay❤
Thank you for sharing how exciting
You should definitely reach out to a museum like the Smithsonian, or try to find one that already has a collection of those figurines, or you can get them appraised. Thanks for sharing 🙌
Way to keep it interesting ladies. Thank you
I REALLY loved this video
Hearing young Alex say she hasn't seen things "for many years" is humorous.
haha I guessed it was your home in the first few seconds, great intro, I'm going to watch on 😁
Attic-larking...I love it!!!
How cool. I went attic larking at my grandmother's house and completely cleaned the whole thing.
