For pieces of art like this one, makes me proud of being Paraguayan, RIP dear genius, i'll do whatever i can to spread your legacy around everywhere i go
Gracias eternas, Maestro !
I had the great privilege to see David Russell play this piece live in '89 and it was also the first time I had ever listened to 'Sueno'. Watching this video brought back that amazing experience.
Absolutely sublime! A wonderful performance. Beautiful beyond belief. He did wonderful justice to that piece. The tremolo was positively dreamlike. He was able to invoke what I am sure Barrios wanted the listener to gain from this piece.
David, your playing here has brought me to absolute tears. It took me to a place where everything was absolutely perfect and there wasn't anything that couldn't be done. I was transported beyond a dream, deep into the fabric of my own imagination. I lived in complete happiness, utter bliss. I was allowed to visit a place inside of me that I never even knew existed. A place with all I could ever want but so much more than that. Thank you so much, David. Playing like this inspires me not only to play the guitar as well as I can, but to live.
Two years later, and I am still literally in tears right now as I’m typing this comment. This is just absolutely stellar playing. This makes so happy just to be alive. Even today, I am taken to that special place by this performance. It’s a unique experience every time I listen to it! Thank you so, so much David!!!
Jared Lucus I studied this piece 15 years ago, forgot it, now I need to relearn it after watching this . Wow. I cannot say any more. Check out Ana Terra by Yamandu Costa. Another great tremolo piece.
Smilthy thank you very much!! That really means a lot to me. :) it’s this song!! I just tried to type out EXACTLY what I was feeling, to the letter. I tried to place every character right where I wanted it to somehow give some articulation as to how I was feeling in that moment!!! One thing that is nice now is that I can look back on this comment occasionally and sometimes I get a taste of what I was experiencing that day. :) hopefully I can do the same thing for other people!!
One of the best of the best I am convinced when the soul of the performer is integrated with the music, it touches the inner most part of the Soul in the Listener.
Did I just watch a man solve a Rubix Cube in the dark with no hands, while on fire? That's how difficult what he did is. Beautifully done David, masterful.
Yes, this is just excellent! Bravo Mr. Russell! It is impossible not to get carried away by this enchanting music. 5:16 - nobody plays this as beautiful as he. After having listened to this more than 30 times I consider this the most perfect guitar perfomance of everything I ever heard. And I have heard a lot.
Congratulations ! Odette
Yeah I can no Pass away in peace after listening to this Gentleman.. What a Gem of a piece and a Gem of a player.... Absolutely masterful and beyond. Thankyou for uploading this piece.
Mangore would go out into nature and compose these amazing pieces,, This is called "Dream in the Rainforest" its an example of how deep he loved nature> he actually lived with the indigenous Guaranies people of Paraguay for over 10 years.. He amazed even the most talented Spanish great Guitarists like Llobet and even Segovia I think quite jealous of his Skill at composing and playing as well... He was a genius who unfortunately did not get to record with good sounds qualities like other got like Segovia. It's a big lost to the World...RIP Barrios Mangore.
Segovia came to South America at an Guitar Hero condition but clearly did dirty his pants after meeting guys like Villa-Lobos and Barrios, making everything for this one not to reach Europe... Segovia was a Frustrated Guitar composer and Flamenco guitarrist (there are lots of tales in Granada of his early youth where the gipsies bullied him for his playing flavour). His truly main oeuvre for guitar was convincing non guitarrist composer to write pieces for guitar. His overall "Franco-like" attitude to the instrument is yet to be cleared up wether it was helpfull for guitar world or not...
Underrated? I have always felt this is either the most difficult or a close second, and the difficulty is matched by the beauty of the piece. The only piece close is Rodrigo's Invocacion y danza.
One of the best of the best I am convinced when the soul of the performer is integrated with the music it touches the inner most part of the soul in the Listener.
Barrios music will tear out your heart ! Thank you for sharing this amazing performance.
For pieces of art like this one, makes me proud of being Paraguayan, RIP dear genius, i'll do whatever i can to spread your legacy around everywhere i go
I'm not Paraguayan and still mention him when able. He belongs with the greatest.
This is one of, if the not, the greatest piece for guitar ever. And Barrios is the G.O.A.T.
Rusell + Mangoré = Perfection
barrios
One of the greatest masters of tremolo? This is the best tremolo I've heard in my short life.
Gracias eternas, Maestro !

Best guitar piece performed by one of the best guitarists of all time.
I'm crying tears of tremolo right now. The tone...THE TONE!!
Absolutely sublime! A wonderful performance. Beautiful beyond belief. He did wonderful justice to that piece. The tremolo was positively dreamlike. He was able to invoke what I am sure Barrios wanted the listener to gain from this piece.
The fact that there are only 66,201 views instead of 66 million is precisely what's wrong with the world today.
So trueee hope you are still strummin along🎶😢
Long live you guys
Impresionante, como siempre, el Gran Maestro David Russell.

Tremolo perfecto. Russel es un magnífico Maestro.
Did I just watch a man solve a Rubix Cube in the dark with no hands, while on fire? That's how difficult what he did is. Beautifully done David, masterful.
I mean Yes, yes you did. That's mind boggingly difficult.
the most perfect tremolo i've ever heard
Just superb. Very expressive and every line phrased beautifully. Thank you.
One of the greatest classical guitarists of all time playing music truly sublime!

To many emotions in one piece. Barrios made masterpiece so mastermind like Russell can play it.
Paraguay has its surprises, Mangore is incredible!
David Russel in his prime demonstrating the masters touch. Absolutely inspirering.
Simplemente maravilloso...

"With guaranies" lol what are you talking about? In Paraguay we"re paraguayans, we're proud of our guarani ancestry but we"re not natives.
Perfect tune from start to finish.
Beautiful !!
He makes it look easy. . . . .
Smile from Anne Mari
que orgulloso estoy!!! gracias mangore!!!!!
This piece is beautiful, especially played by this guy. This is an underrated Barrios composition imo
Agree. To my ears it's the most beautiful piece for solo guitar in the entire repertoire. David Russel plays it beautifully.
Underrated? I have always felt this is either the most difficult or a close second, and the difficulty is matched by the beauty of the piece. The only piece close is Rodrigo's Invocacion y danza.
Not underrated but somewhat underplayed due to its sheer difficulty, one of the hardest tremolo pieces ever written for guitar
David Russell, you're the best!
One of the best of the best I am convinced when the soul of the performer is integrated with the music it touches the inner most part of the soul in the Listener.
Just saw an incredible performance last night in Budapest with the maestro. He played this piece impeccably.
Impresionante maestría, enorme belleza 🙌🏻🥲

One my favorite Version of "El Sueño de la Floresta" by Barrios Mangore
I WONDER WHAT STRINGS AND WHAT TENSION. MR. RUSSELL USES ON THIS PARTICULAR VIDEO..?
The master at work. I found myself just enjoying the music and not analyzing technique. Bravo!
