    I was racking my brain for nostalgic knives and remembered this one I received from my parents for Christmas after watching this video of your's as an eighth grader (my first Spyderco). Unfortunately I lost it with it's small size, going to have to order another to add to my collection (along with the penny and business card you mailed to me from around that time)! Thanks for countless hours of entertainment and gear education all these years!

    Sure thing. Always glad to help out a fellow knife lover. Curves can be tricky but in my experience they're always worth it.

  • @cutlerylover
    @cutlerylover  16 ปีที่แล้ว

    haha, part 2 I cut it again but with a longer piece to show how its suppose to cut, lol...that lkittle rectange wasnt enouhg to show it cuttign properly...

  • @cutlerylover
    @cutlerylover  16 ปีที่แล้ว

    actually the curved blade is a great cutter, its got more cuttign surface than a staright blade of its same length, the problem with this oen is its not a good stabber...but as a tool it will rarely be needed for that...

    I've own spyderco knives for several years and I had this slow opening issue! Thanks for the thumb nail tip! It really works!

  • @cutlerylover
    @cutlerylover  16 ปีที่แล้ว

    Both are good just different, the benchmite is cheaper, about half the rpice, but it locks closed which some might not like, I happen to like that alot I carry mien on ym keys, also diferent lock style, its just prefference...but botha re nice small knives...

  • @cutlerylover
    @cutlerylover  16 ปีที่แล้ว

    yeah thats tnhe media for you, the only time you teachers sees knives is probably when the bad guys takes one out in movies...or peghaps ina news broadcast wheer someone is talkign abotua stabbing or a crime show wheer they show the knife wounds...you just dont see anytugn on TV or in the news about the fact that EVERY single firefighter and EMT person has a sharp edged tool they use to save lives almost daily...

    I saw one of the crickets the other day & it was alot smaller than I thought it would be.
    Great review.Five stars!

    Great review Jeff. I am trying to decide between the Cricket and a Boker Wharcom to add to my order and I'm having a little trouble.

    I wish they made a cricket in G-10 that would be sick. Nice vid i'm glad to see that your vids are being uploaded now.

    @schneibgamer1 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well, after about 3 years of eyeing this, I decided to drop the money on it, along with a manix 2. I'm really excited for them! Hopefully the cricket won't be too small in my hands, as they are fairly big. Thanks though Jeff, for introducing this knife to me so many years ago!

    I started flicking my spyders open with my thumbnail the first time I held one, I figured everyone did that

  • @cutlerylover
    @cutlerylover  16 ปีที่แล้ว

    yes but its not as easy beignj that not only is the blade bigger and heavier but its also a lockback which is keepign the blade in stronger...

  • @relicen1
    @relicen1 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    A knife used for self defense needs to be atleast 3½-4 inches to be useful. You can use a smaller one, but it won't scare anyone and won't do much damage unless you hit a major artery.

  • @gstrader73
    @gstrader73 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great vid Jeff! I picked up a plain edge with etched handle scales at my gun range for $23 today... I'm happy. New but no box... couldn't turn it down.

  • @CyberShinyNinja
    @CyberShinyNinja 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Kind of expensive for a knife that size... An alternative blade of around the same size would be the Cold Steel Micro Recon, which goes for about $20-25, and the blade shape (either spear or tanto) lends itself better to EDC purposes.

    i like when there are scratches in my stainless steel knife because it looks cool... Great review Jeff!

  • @Captain-Electro
    @Captain-Electro 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have had the etched version on my keychain for a year and love it. looks good and socially acceptable but could be deadly for defensive purposes.

    ownign and carrying are 2 different thgins I beelive in PA from my research allows esidents to own them if your a collector but not carry them unless you are a LEO or possess a CCW permit...BTW working on getting my CCW soon, lol because I want to carry my balisongs...not that I have any trouble doings so already but I like to kep thgins legit and legal...

    Well done review. And a very nice knife.

  • @qwe1231

    "Hey, you might have to cut you self out of a car wreck...In most cases you're going to be locked into your car."
    It's a cute, small, well-made knife but that reverse-S is not the ideal shape for normal EDC duties.
    If the best reason you can give to own a reverse-S blade is in the ridiculously rare event that you somehow need to cut a seat belt because you can't unbuckle it, then you're really showing that there isn't much reason to own it.

  • @fendergab
    @fendergab 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello, I recently purchased this model, although it's the one the etched handle. I was wondering if you could please post a video on how to sharpen this knife. Thanks and keep up the good work.

  • @MegaMatt333
    @MegaMatt333 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    if you have a sharpmaker or similar style system then its relatively easy. using just ceramic rods or a bench stone it is very difficult if your not experenced

  • @slice22359
    @slice22359 16 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well if you have a Sharpmaker, and I'm assuming you do, then simply use the corner sides of the stones to do the work. Don't even attempt it on a flat stone, that's next to impossible. But basically any corner will work. With a little practice it's really not that hard.

    Love the videos. I want a spyderco knife really bad. unfortunately I am disabled and have to live in a very tight budget so U cannot afford one. I love watching your videos on all of them though. Keep up the good work Jeff.

  • @iJeeto
    @iJeeto 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    ah double recurve. I see. Spyderco's website description has it as a "reverse "S" shaped blade".
    Love this knife, although with only light usage the blade has a lot of side-to-side play. Needs to be tightened.

  • @BravotheChonk

    Mine was 57.00 instead of 114.00. It is a great knife razor sharp with the tip similar to karambit great for cutting or piercing.

    it isn't very big so i would say no not at all.. if anything it can be used for with opening letters, packages, and small utility tasks like cutting tape, twine, cable, zip ties, or if you want, you can carve wood with it if you get the straight edge

  • @iJeeto
    @iJeeto 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    I also wondering how difficult the Cricket would be to sharpen. Is it tough to get an even sharpening on that s-curving edge?

  • @john1112112

    love that knife, but i can't buy it at $50, i have the money, but my mom and dad aren't too happy with me spending money on knives =] i would go with the same one u have, maybe etched, but deff. plain edge, great looking knife

  • @HvinnyTheViking

    I nabbed an FRN version without serrations the other day (doing the happy-knife-find-dance), kinda thought it felt sorta flimsy at first, but it's actually a good little cutter, I got it used, but still REALLY sharp, which is good since other than stropping it after I use it, I really don't want to try sharpening it, have you had any issues sharpening the Cricket?

  • @parksy6908

    while the asking price is probably too high for the size, a griptilian is MASSIVE compared to this, thats like comparing texas to rhode island. even the mini griptillian is like twice as big as this little guy.

    Yea but you cant compare vg-10(cricket) steel to aus-8(micro recon)... Depending on what you want to do vg-10 will win in every aspect, but when it comes to a small knife like this, it might not matter as much
