I’m completely in love with this series! It tackles so many important societal issues in our modern world, specifically in Jordan. Bullying, harassement, abuse, and the horrendous acts committed in the name of honor…. All were beautifully represented in this short series! can you explain how people from Jordon view honor? I think i dont really get the huge reaction layan's brother had to what she did only because im not familiar with their culture there
@@daniellesloley628 sadly, many people’s view of honor is very toxic and disgusting. They care about their reputation and their "honorable name" more than their own children. In this case for example, Layan comes from an influential, political family that has its own "status" within society, so when layan goes out with a guy who she doesn’t know and people find out, they will talk about her, perhaps accuse her of adultery, which according to them, tarnished their "honorable family name". In this case, the family cares about what society thinks more than protecting their children. So this makes committing an honor murder seem like the ideal solution for a family to "purify their name and honor". Unfortunately, the women are the ones who take the fall. As you may have noticed, layan said that her brothers can do god knows what and no one would care. That’s sadly very true, when a woman does the simplest of things, like hanging out with a male friend, talking to a male classmate, or simply refusing to get married to someone her family wants! very minor things can actually result in domestic abuse, violence and horrific murders against those young ladies. I hope this somehow clarified the terrible conditions many women suffer, not only in Jordan, but in many countries in the Middle East and around the world. Of course, I’m not generalizing here, but those horrific acts do take place and I take it as my personal duty to always share those stories and help raise awareness!

@@rahaaaaf but in Islam marriage has to have the consent of both bride and groom. Jordan being an Islamic country can't deny that agency to the girl. The king of Jordan claims to be from the lineage of prophet Muhammad SAW then how can he let his society flout those rules.
@@immammuddin5019 I agree, Islam has a set of rules that protect women, including choosing their life partners for marriage, but sadly so called "cultures and traditions" barely go hand in hand with Islam. Many people commit those terrible crimes and link them to their "culture", which is why religion has nothing to do with this. Secondly, Jordan is an Islamic country, but just like other countries that claim to be Islamic, their laws and rules don’t follow Islam. In fact, the reason why many of the honor killings go unreported or why the murderer receives the slightest sentence (that is if he receives any) is because the laws themselves are unjust and, not only that, but they also protect those murderers/criminals. The country is filled with corruption and unjust laws, filled with people who own a lot of money that pay the police to let murderers and criminals out on bail. Filled with high rates of poverty and unemployment. Sadly, it seems like we still have a long way to go before our rights are acknowledged…

@@arolemaprarath3248 English sounds like someone brushing their teeth is talking. It’s not a pretty language, it’s only learned globally because of how impactful the western world is on social, business, education, and entertainment industries. Arabic is beautiful because of how poetic, sensational and solid it is, the language the actors are using is a dialect language with an accent that alters the entire language, even some native Arabs don’t understand certain Arabic dialects, like Moroccan. I hate when people say stuff like, “If you do what they did to you, you’re just as bad as them”. That’s so frustratingly WRONG! The three girls (Layan, Rania, and Ruqayya) bullied Mariam out of pure SPITE. They did it because they were BAD people. But when Mariam did all of those things to get back at them, she did it because of what THEY did to HER; out of frustration at the fact that they destroyed her life and got away with it! The two are not equivalent by any means! The three girls bullied her for no reason. But Mariam had every reason and every right to punish them for what they did to her, seeing as no one else actually cared AT ALL about any of the suffering she went through (not even her so-called “friends”) or try to enact any justice. They didn’t respect her enough to leave her alone and not make her life a living hell, they deserve every bit of what came to them. Don’t try to destroy someone and expect not to get the same treatment in return.

We need a second season… we were left at a cliffhanger(was she truly killed? Or was her bf killed , or did her brother miss?) A second season is needed to see what happens at the school after the damage was done , and of course whether mariam will be caught for what she has done …
@@moonknighttt08 Yes, the logic is flawed, but unfortunately honor killings are not uncommon in the Middle East, India and Pakistan. The killing is seen as an act to right the wrongs and restore the reputation of the family in their social circles, and it is pathetic that these people care more about their reputation than their own family. There's an "al jazeera start here" video about it that's pretty good, check it out if you want.
If i may ask, what do you hope happens if there is as season 2. I truly felt bad for Mariam. Being bulled in highschool I can totally relate. I was not bulled no where near the level she was.
@@kimchigamez1394 This may sound harsh , but mariam in a way is considered an accomplice to what happened to layan at the end. That’s why she may face serious legal issues, but considering she isn’t 18 in the series she’ll get away with it maybe with community service and rehab to help with her trauma. However, mariam probably will have to change schools as she probably will be named by the girls as a “murderer” and face more threats (death threats). This scenario could be applied if layan was truly killed and her brother didn’t miss when he was aiming . If Layan didn’t die (let’s assume that the brother missed or decided to shoot himself or her bf instead) then we can expect that layan won’t go easy on mariam which may cause things to get out of hand .

It happens at all schools. Tho if the people in charge of these schools genuinely had islamic values things like that would decrease. But most read the quran without reflection. At least its better than nonmuslim schools that teach atheism and promote more inappropriate things. Id chose an islamic or all-girls school over western schools. Also keep in mind whether this was a western/mixed school in jordan or a girls-only school there is still going to be some people who practice honor killings and other harmful cultural practices. I also want to point out honor killings did not originate from middle eastern cultures nor from islam. Altho shows like this bring to light some issues women face it also enforces certain wrong stereotypes regarding middle easterners. The girl who was constantly being bullied and finally stood up for herself but took it to far or the bully who couldn't resist on picking on her but who showed she had a heart in the end? Or do we blame how society judges us women on what we wear? Or the parents who are more concerned about what ppl think than listening and trying to understand their kids? I’m happy about the ending, you can’t beg for mercy if you once caused mercy on others, and her friends are shitty especially the black haired one like how can you stand up for someone that almost killed your friend but not stand for your friend
lol I was so frustrated at her so called friends swinging all over the place and doing a 360 on Mariam especially after they talked her back into getting revenge when she was about to give up. The most pathetic was her long time friend going back to kissing Layan's ass after everything, like girl don't you have any principles? and where was your outrage when they almost killed your friend and then fake shamed her! Please remember that the headmistress, a woman who had no problem accusing other girls of breaking the school's rules and had no problem even threatening to expell a girl who was nearly killed on the school's property, was careful to only tell the mother (not the father) when the most popular girl skipped school and lied to herteachers. Honestly I would really love to see a whole season on Noor’s (the girl who played the bully) backstory. I have seen bullying in shows before but honour killing wherein families gaslight their daughters into believing that they need to be protected by their brothers and all of the families ‘respect’ soley depending on how the girl behaves; this I have never seen before and I really liked it. I want to see more of that. I hope someone from the show reads it and makes it happen; I haven’t related to any character more than Noor’s character in the bits where she is manipulated by her family.
same. i feel like people who just act like Mariam is justified aren't really thinking about what the show is trying to say. They could've just made all the bullies one dimensional bad people, but they intentionally chose not to. The bully girls stick together, they never rat one another out, are there for and protect each other, and also girls/women in general, like Layan and Rania protecting Noaf. It's also telling how the protagonists are from seemingly liberal families (Mariam's father cooks for his working wife, Dina bickers with her brother just like any other siblings, they both are friends with boys openly, Noaf seems like she has lots of freedom, even though it may not be by choice for her family) while all the bullies have strict and controlling home lives. They get pulled from school, threatened, get no privacy at all, Layan is clearly scared of her brothers, and for good reason as we see. This of course doesn't excuse being awful like they are, but who can honestly say that they know they wouldn't do the same in the one place in their lives where they have some control and power, when they have none anywhere else? I certainly couldn't promise it. It's also really apparent in the way they go against each other. The bullies are awful and they suck and deserve their punishments they get in the second episode and way more but they always keep it amongst themselves, the girls taking revenge weaponise the patriarchal society against them, bringing in religion, family and all the pressures that go with them. It's not empowering at all if you think about it, they're just Kapos of the system. Dina and Noaf realise this in the end, after they develop some solidarity against the common "enemy" in a way. And through all that, i still understand the impulse to act the way Mariam does, as she's also been hurt. But it's not as one sided as some people make it out. I really do hope they don't undo the implied ending and that the new season will be the same story retold from Layan's POV.
It's a good show.. I loved it.. And I'm 100% Team Mariam.. Layan and her friends truly deserves everything that happened to them.. But I honestly hope no one got hurt in the final episode.. That sound of gun shot is still shocking me.. Can't wait for season 2..
I was team Mariam at first but then I started to dislike her. She lost my sympathy the moment she proved to be more ruthless and evil than Layan ever was. Layan did some pretty nasty things to people that she didn’t like but she could never be okay with someone getting murdered or raped, as she proved when she saved Noaf from the rapist. Mariam on the other hand was happy at the end when Layan got killed. Her friends tried to convince her that she was going to far but she didn’t listen, what she did to Layan was way worse than anything she did to her and she was okay with it. In the end Layan became my favorite character, she was bitchy sometimes but she wasn’t really evil and she always stick to her friends.
@@aidacailar1126 Wait! No one still knows what happened to Layan yet.. Can't say that she's dead.. We have to wait for season 2 for that.. Of course, I’m not generalizing here, but those horrific acts do take place and I take it as my personal duty to always share those stories and help raise awareness!
@@rahaaaaf wow thank you so much for sharing that. It's always important to be aware of what happens in other cultures, I'm glad i watched it because now i am aware of what happens in Jordan

They all deserve it

@Wandering Aura but his brother become murderer, and will be arrested. Isnt the worse for Layan family, right?
@@moonknighttt08 Yes, the logic is flawed, but unfortunately honor killings are not uncommon in the Middle East, India and Pakistan.

I’m not even joking this is best show I watched with my mom I love this I hope they make a season 2

We need season 2! So proud that we have a realistic representation of our culture...people who actually know how to wear a hijab not some actress paid to wrap it and it's pink and her clothes are orange. It tackles real social issues .
I am from Jordan, the country that made this series, frankly, this series received a little criticism in my country because it does not represent our society frankly, but I loved this series and I am happy because I found something beautiful like this coming out of my country🙂🍻

Wow!! It's great to see an Arabic speaking series on Netflix .They're adorable and beautiful! I love this kind of story line , will watch it surely .
The language is so beautiful!
Can people realize that Arabs and Muslims are not the same thing? This show is Arab Representation, not Muslim Representation. Just like Elite was Spanish Representation and not "Christianity Representation", even though most characters were probably Christians. Fr, stop labelling all arabs as muslims.
exactly!! not everything is about religion.
i mean there are plenty of muslim characters in the movie so like they can say that ig
@@hlamdt No body cares if they're Muslim or not, that's not what the story is about.
@@hlamdt Mean Girls was set in America and probably had mostly Christian Characters. That doesn't make it Christian representation because religion wasn't the focus of the movie. Likewise with this. Religion has literally nothing to do with this but people are making this "Muslim Representation" - like no. Arabs have a culture outside of Religion and it's a beautiful one.
This isn't about religion lol it's about bullying it happens everywhere especially with teenagers.
If this show reached season 20, I’d still watch it
I hope there’s some twist , otherwise everything was released in the trailer lol

POV: You've got here after watching the whole episodes, just to read people's comments lol same, loving it🤗💕
this show is magnificent. I love how I actually relate to most characters in this show. much love!!!
And c'mon, I don't think that Mariam would be happy if Layan got killed.. Her only intention was to alleviate the pain she was experiencing.. I mean, what Layan did to Mariam in the locker room and behind the school ground - that was pretty nasty.. That was beyond some silly joke or bully.. Layan may have a good heart and she's hiding it, but she almost killed Mariam.. Don't forget that..
I'm Team Mariam for sure..
TEAM MARIAM, OTHER SHOWS SHOULD TAKE NOTE, THEY ALWAYS END THE SHOW WITH THE VICTIM KILLING THEMSELVES UGH
THIS SHOW IS SO GOOD U GUYS
PLEASE GIVE IT A CHANCE.

Great show. It is horrible what is done to women in the 21st century. I have seen it in Berlin when uncles or brothers have done it hundreds of times. I don't want to give too much away.
This film shows how bully running at school and give perception of people or students who gets bullied from their friend at achool. So Cool
I need season 2
Jinn is the first arabic netflix originals but so much controversy they left hanging/cancelled i think. Hope Jinn will continue🤞
I loved this! It's like the opposite of 13 Reasons Why 😂😂 but instead of killing herself, she destroys EVERYONE! Love It 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
I love how Mariam in the end still decided to post where layans location was, even after her "friends" convincing her, because I SWEAR most movies have them "realize their mistakes"
But she did it anyways,go mariam
So disgusting! What is good about that? She wasn’t able to make any development unlike for example Noaf or the enemies. Maryam is a sick psycho
@@emrebay98 She didn’t need any development. Mariam was minding her own business when those bullies decided to go after her. They traumatized that poor girl and she fought back. I respect that
I swear girl from nowhere and this series are the most traumatic thing I’ve ever saw, it’s sad that everything is based on real cases
Wait wdym it's based on a real case? Where did you hear this?
This was actually a good show, I usually don't watch Arabic TV drama but the one impressed me
I’ve never watched a middle eastern show in my life and honestly had low expectations for it. But it is really good!! LIKE 8/10 from me
As an Arabian girl ..this TV show is very realistic 👌 and alot of girls can relate to this

I cannot wait for this! I can already tell it's going to be a new favorite.
this is one of the best netflix shows ive seen, hope theres gonna be a season 2
In the end, if we heard 2 gunshots, maybe we can predict both are dead..but rania expression tells us everything
this series was so amazing and i really love to see more international series/movies! The story was so thrilling i was so into it! And to see the cultural aspect of the normal life of a girl/woman and how difficult it can be. Just...wow i really love this series
I watched it and it was AMAZING!!!! The show is waaaaaayyy deeper than the trailer. This show is so impressive. It's English dubbed as well, and it was done so perfectly.
I've heard of the phrase "Don't bully others", but I always thought it seemed incomplete. After seeing this show I realized its "Don't bully others, you don't know who you're messing with." Istg amazing stuff, we need more shows like that.
"Don't bully others" should be it. It doesn't matter who you are messing with. It is wrong. Even if Maryam never became vengeful and quietly lived her own life away from the bullies, what was done to her is wrong.
@@drunkpekka4284 In a moral sense, you're right. But one should also be aware to never judge a book by its cover. Mariam appeared quiet when really she was very much capable and in complete rights to do what she did.
