I love how most of the NPC who are close friends with Mitsuko are doing as the system programmed them to but is secretly aware that there’s a different reality to theirs and that Mitsuko is the only one who can change it. Imagine how they recall it each time they die over and over again to the point they’ve become aware that something is not right but they are powerless since they’re all NPC. So all they can do is aid Mitsuko to help stop this cycle.
I watched this movie a few years ago on New Year’s Eve with some friends. It was absolutely bizarre, and I didn’t understand it much until this video. Thank you for explaining it so well !! The concept is absolutely amazing and the depiction, when looking back knowing the full story, is beautiful.
I'm so happy someone's finally addressing that mitsuko and that other girl were actually in a relationship in many recaps of this movies there addressed as "great friends" which basically destroys the entire reasoning behind the movie
@Mettawat Kutaninwat yea as a man I can confirm I see lesbians as shape shifting maniacs forcefully being put into relationships with pig hybrid dudes
The symbolism in this movie is interesting. After you explained that this movie's purpose is actually being an abstract story about the struggles of gay women in Japan, that aspect of this movie is very clear, but there is still one mystery... It was technically never truly shown what "real life" is in this story. This story mustn't only exist in that abstract way considering the main character of the movie has one consciousness in the video game despite being in different bodies with different identities, and considering the fact that she knows that she comes from somewhere real. When Mitsuko got to "real life", she was actually far in the future, not where she had expected to be, so we never discovered the world she was familiar with. I think that one of the high school settings is "real life", since the character that created the game Mitsuko was trapped in mentioned that he admired her during high school, and since the main character's consistent consciousness was Mitsuko, as shown (at 8:26) when Aki gets the main character to turn back into her original identity as Mitsuko, followed by Mitsuko having that identity when she escaped the video game. However, there are two schoolgirl iterations of the main character. The first schoolgirl iterations at the beginning of the movie seems to be Mitsuko's origin before any chaos happened, but the second second schoolgirl iteration is portrayed as more "real" throughout the movie despite existing after supernatural chaos happened, which is very confusing. There is also the fact that all characters in both high school settings are deliberately female as it was intended by the game in-story and by the theme of the movie, which adds to the confusion. My theory is that the second schoolgirl iteration of Mitsuko is the real one, since it is portrayed as such, but this movie did not show the real high school setting, the movie showed a survival horror video game recreation of it. Mitsuko might have got trapped in the video game during a long unknown amount of time after Mitsuko finished high school, in the future when the science of video games and cloning will supposedly be a lot more advanced than it is now. The character that made the video game using the DNA of Mitsuko and her friends said in the movie (which is not found in this Mystery Recapped video) that he got the DNA in spring of the year 2034, and this is a 2015 movie. Future technology sci-fi shenanigans is also probably why there is a younger and older version of that man. The man probably trapped her in the game which preserved her for the 150 years, and when she finally escaped, he wasn't finished with her and was ready for his ultimate conclusion to sleep with her. After the ending played out, Mitsuko killing herself and doing so again as multiple different identities within the game was because she wanted to save the video game clones of her friends, because her real friends presumably already passed away by the time Mitsuko was 150 years into the future, so saving the clones was the next best thing when her old life was completely gone. Once Mitsuko died, and her identities in the video game followed suit, the game's supernatural dangers no longer had a main character to target like they are supposed to, thus saving the clone friends from being caught in any of that lethal conflict. The ending being a snowy field most likely signifies the afterlife and Mitsuko finally being at peace there, at the point when the conflict was all over, which is especially suggested since she appeared in that setting in her death position. The snow might have actually been a huge tangible cloud for all I know, if that's what kind of afterlife this story was trying to portray. Mitsuko even had the school uniform at the beginning of the movie, before there was any danger, likely signifying safety and/or representing the fulfillment of her yearning for her surroundings to be normal. I don't think this means that the first schoolgirl Mitsuko is the real one since that has evidence against it. I may be wrong though, since I don't have unquestionable knowledge of what went behind decisions for this movie. Anyway, "It's over now.", Mitsuko said as she ran off-screen to enjoy her everlasting freedom.

I remember watching this movie as a teenage and was so confused! It had those Millennium Actress type of transition but with more gore and I wasn't sure what the genre was. But then again, it was Japanese and they're into death games so what else is new. Didn't understand the plot until I watched this. It's actually beautiful.
Wow, this movie made me cry. I have never seen it, but seeing and hearing how you narrate it hits home so much for me. As a woman, I struggle in the same way, though not quite as crazy as she was depicted, I still cried when I thought about how society views me. Thank you for this.
Perhaps it's time to stop crying. Women, on average, can see more colors than men (not by a huge margin, but still significant enough that it could be used as an advantage in certain careers). Women also have more sensitive abilities to smell and taste, among other things. Women are not useless (neither are men, but that's beside the point of this comment). P.S: If there's a group of people laughing at you because you're different, laugh back at them because they're all the same.
@@ro4eva I feel like you missed the point of why I was crying. I don't think I am useless. I just feel like society puts labels on me and I have to do as they say or I am an outsider. And having better senses doesn't help with that.
@@ro4eva Women don't think we're useless. That you decided that needed to be your starting argument shows how little you listened to this recap or listen to women who are upset about how society run by men views women! Not how we view ourselves. We are well aware we're useful and good at many things. It's society that tells us we're only good as vaginas for men. You wrote a whole novella to miss the whole point. No wonder society blows if this is how men interpret what women say when they say it so clearly.
It's funny to stumble on this recap. I watched this last year with a group of friends cos one of them said it was weird. Funniest part was myself, and my two other LGBTQIA+ Friends figured it out from the couple in the forest when the kids are fighting with the pillows. And my female straight friend figured out the Male oppression themes from the second iteration at the wedding. Straight male friend, Thought it was the weirdest crazy shit and wondered how my friend come across it in the first place.
I was immature and only relate to the final part where the man said he cloned her to get some s*x. Disgusting af. Also, if he liked her why make her running scared shitless. I understood more after reading an explanation but it wasnt abt lgbt.

How is that breaking the 4th wall? She's a video game character with a single consciousness, so when the player switches characters, her appearance changes.

I like to think that at the end there is more meaning behind the old man, like how the old generation always likes to decide the future for the younger generation by having them do what they tell them to as if it were a game for them.

I saw this ages ago and you made the memory of it hit me like a truck. The movie is so wild until you get to the end and can see the deeper meaning to it. I don't think it's very fair for people to hate on complex deeper meaning movies just because they didn't figure out the meaning to it themselves when they watched it. I'm not sure if you have yet - or will even see this cus this is an old video lol - but you should cover the movie 'Raw'. Another wild ride that has a deeper meaning once you understand it.

@@ro4eva you wrote a whole book for what☠️☠️
How in the world did you understand this movie
@@ro4eva Women don't think we're useless. That you decided that needed to be your starting argument shows how little you listened to this recap or listen to women who are upset about how society run by men views women! Not how we view ourselves. We are well aware we're useful and good at many things. It's society that tells us we're only good as vaginas for men.
You wrote a whole novella to miss the whole point. No wonder society blows if this is how men interpret what women say when they say it so clearly.
I really love these kinds of movies. It's one of those that doesn't have to be understood but can still be fully enjoyed.

Also, what’s the music in the background?

You could say that humans can use their god given intellect and strength to cater to everyone and help everyone have good lives but that will never happen because everything boils down to primal thinking.
