My parents were like that. They refused to believe that bullying was going on in my school, and said that I must have done something to anger the bullies, and that I should apologize to them.
Put in their words: "They wouldn't hurt you for no reason. You definitely did something wrong first. Tomorrow, go apologize to all of them."

Monsters aren't born, they're made. This is what happens when a child's cries for help are dismissed and vilified. When you repeatedly hurt someone, assault them, lie on them, with absolutely no remorse, you expose yourself to an infinite amount of consequences. As a formerly bullied kid myself, I saw so much of myself in Miriam. I don't know if I could have done what she had done, but her pain was painfully relatable. She had been broken. No one was helping her, not even her friends. What does one do when their pain is being so disgustingly ignored? Holy shit this was too real for me

@@josephgarza2772 at her age, I was also heavily influenced by religion(although not to this extent) I was told to 'turn the other cheek' more times than I could count. It brewed resentment that is imprinted on my psyche like a tattoo on the arm, and it bred a psychological yearning for retribution. The types of things Miriam did, I'm not sure I could carry them out successfully, but there will always be a part of me that wish I had even gotten close. I never let it go that far. I kept it all in as I was told. All I know is that I'm not all that bothered by what she did. It's what happens when pain isn't regarded with the severity it deserves.

The thing I hated most were Miriam’s fake friends. They watched her get almost beaten to death, accused of SA, get alienated from the school, had her diary exposed, etc… and they did NOTHING. They only helped when it came to benefit them (Noaf’s sister getting hurt, Dina’s “period pictures”) and after that they were all fine. When Miriam tried to leave the plan behind they dragged her back in and told her they’d help her see it to the end only to ditch her the very next episode. Sure, Layan helped Noaf but was it not a situation where anyone should stand up to help a person? It’s like Noaf forgot that the same thing Layan saved her from she accused Miriam of doing. Her friends called themselves good people and tried to paint Miriam as a bitch when they didn’t even go half the things Miriam suffered through. Such unbearable people.

Both Noaf and Dina are not true friends to Mariam. Even Mariam called them hypocrites and I agree with her all the way for judging them harshly. Not only are they hypocrites. They're fucking stupid cowards who still don't really understand how the bullies destroyed Mariam's life. They don't even want to bring themselves to see that Mariam's parents have become cruel and indifferent towards their own daughter instead of sticking up for her. They've even chosen to forget that Layan stole Mariam's diary and humiliated her very badly again. So fuck Noaf and fuck Dina!

It's so easy to say that Mariam should have been "the bigger person" after been psychologically scarred for life. You won't understand how bullying really destroys a person's life until you go through it yourself. If the bullies had never bullied Mariam, none of these would have happened. So many children go through what Mariam does and even take their own lives when they can't take it anymore. What do the bullies do then? They move on with their lives even after they essentially took someone's life.

I saw some ppl in the comments saying Mariam went too far. I don't think you guys are aware of the severity of the things they did to her. They beat her so brutally and left her for dead, which could have been a 2nd degree murder charge. After she recovered they proceeded to double down and accuse her of sexual assault, which is bad enough but in a Muslim country that might as well be a death sentence. So as far as I am concerned this is karma, well deserved.
Also, I'm not sure why this show got so much backlash. This, unfortunately is reality for a lot of people.

I'm on Miriam's side. After the bullies almost killed her, accused her of being a pervert, and the whole school, her family, and friends against her, anyone would go crazy. This is how society creates its villains. Ofc the bully dying at the end was too much, and even I would feel remorse for indirectly killing my bully. As if making a false SA accusation isn't bad enough, knowing how insane Layan's brother, Hasim, is, he probably would have killed Mariam if he had heard the accusation Layan made against her. Why should we feel sympathy for Layan, when she risked Mariam's life? And not to mention the horrific bullying. Anyone would lose it if they went through what Mariam went through! The diary part really got to me, when people were making fun of Mariam for her mental health declination. As someone who has mental health problems, nothing hurts more than having people call you a lunatic and making fun of you. Layan and her friends broke Mariam's mind to the point where she snapped. Calling Mariam the bad guy is like putting a dog to sleep for biting someone after being tormented relentlessly by that person before finally snapping (that's not to say Mariam is like a dog, I'm using this analogy because dogs are innocent and Mariam was too). Everyone has a breaking point, and if you manage to push them past that point, don't act all surprised when they bite back with more venom

Nobody comes to the victims aid or open their mouths when they(victims) are destroyed but they'll be the first to moral police when the victim starts taking revenge saying you are going too far so the victims pain is not enough even if they commit suicide.

Those are the types of teachers who are not capable of solving a difficult situation - because it is not easy to do something good, but it is very easy to do something bad, f.e. when even the teacher continues the abuse. Since it was mentioned that she suffered from depression when they exposed her diary entries, I think her only source of motivation was to get revenge. She had a tunnel vision, which could explain why there were moments she disregarded her own friends' feelings and comfort. But tbvf, her friends aren't that great to her either. Imagine believing the bully when they said they got SA-ed by your best friend and dropping your best friend when the bully is known for being manipulative too? I also can't imagine hanging out with someone who almost k1lled my best friend. I don't care if they're nice to me for 3 seconds, if they harass others, they'd still be bad people. I would say at least sixteeen, and I do not know how the law is in the country where this is set, but in my country (Germany) you can be criminally liable at this age already. So if Layan accuses Mariam of something that is a crime, she's clearly liable for defamation. Bullies usually think that what they are doing is just a game, that it is fun, and that their "fun" takes precedence over another's wellbeing. They need to be told by somebody, ideally above them, that this is not acceptable behavior and in fact a crime. And if taking them to court is the right way to do it - so be it. I know of a case where a girl was bullied so badly she committed suicide and the girls who did this to her actually were taken to court and convicted for their actions.

I have no sympathy for the bullies. Mariam’s friends watched as those girls viciously beat Mariam and spread lies about her that were soul crushing. Mariam was going to transfer, but her friends convinced her to stay and get revenge. Then the two main bullies show them some kindness and they are ready to turn on Mariam. Well you reap what you sow. 🤨

Ok, so yes, Mariam took it too far by ruining a girl's life and killing another girl indirectly. But this would've never happened if the bullies had minded their own business. The fact that Mariam also saw her two best friends slowly being driven towards her enemies is enough to make anyone angry enough to do what she did. The bullies may have been nicer to her friends at the end, but they never apologized to her (except for Renia, and even then, it was for her own benefit.)

Exactly. She didnt take it far though. They almost beat her to death. She was lucky to be alive. Accused her of SA when the main bully brother was so defensive for her. He couldve killed Mariam if he knew as well. She survived based of her luck. She gave them the same chance to roll the dice and test their luck . Not her business they failed and lucked out. I would’ve been proud and slept like a baby. Why should I feel bad when they didnt as well. Most bullies move on with their life even when their victim dies. The world just has 1 less crappy person existing. So tired of save the villains life but the victim lofe in the beginning was not given that same attitude. Only noticed when it was to late. For once, I think this is the most realistic outcome of revenge for the bully despite how people think Mariam went overboard. People can easily apologize and ask for second chances but they were never sorry for when they ruined you life. As someone who had been mentally and physically bullied, I feel the exact same way as Mariam.

Then she keeps flip flopping, and then she and Dina ditch her at her lowest. Then she wants to LEAVE AND CHANGE SCHOOLS, and these girls BRING HER BACK in the game, then ditch her AGAIN because she wants to go ahead with the plan that THEY put together! Now at the end they wanna play like angels, saying shit like "we have consciences" and making Mariam look like a devil. They only wanted to help her when their own lives were affected (Noaf's sister, Dina's pants). They keep forgetting Mariam almost DIED by these girls' hands and Noaf saw it and didn't say shit. The morals of the story: Never start fires that you won't be able to put out. In this case those bullies dug their own graves for what they put that girl thought, thinking there would be no consequences for their actions unfortunately for them, karma caught up to in human form and they have no one to blame but themselves. The friends are no better. When they were doing all those to her, they did nothing and turned on her (at least the chubby did). I hate that they decided to feel sorry for the people who bullied them, but when their friend was in trouble and needed help, they did nothing, where was her shoulder to cry on and her support. All this could've been avoided if those bullies didn't push her too far and if her friends were actually real friends. It's terrible to say that but they pretty much created this problem and dealt with it in the worst way.

Like others said, Layan situation could've been avoided if Mariam's friends had spoke up aout her being bullied. If they had, I'm sure others students would have followed. Technically, Layan was responsible for her own fate, she knew the consequences of sneaking around dating a male; worse a grown az man. Layan knew her father was a control freak and that her brother was psycho. Why would take a chance knowing the consequences if caught. Chicka didn't even get the "D". Plus, it's never shown if Layan actually died. Considering how she's shown to be a master manipulator at playing victim, she probably tricked her brother into putting the gun down only to shoot him or had him shoot her boyfriend instead to save herself.

@MrHerm , Eh, for me I don't see anyone going to prison, YET. Here's my 2nd and 3rd season pitch:
So depending on what happens to Layan, she either way comes out alive. She starts to realized that either she has to go on the run or continue playing her victim role so when the authorities and her family ask what happened, she can say that it was her boyfriend that did it. But either way, what happens after is she goes on a manhunt to find out who did this to her, leading to a cat-and-mouse chase between Layan and Mariam. However, things become difficult, because of Layan's father shutting down the school and the principal fired, therefore students will be force to transfer to alternative schools.
I'm not sure if we should have Dina, Noaf, or even Rania tell Layan that it was Miriam yet, but I definitely would like Rania to get more backstory. Maybe it's revealed that her and Ruqayya weren't exactly Layan's "friends" before meeting her, especially considering that Rania's father is shown to be abusive. So maybe, because of Layan, it was her that gave Rania strength, to which she always promised that as long as they're friends, Rania's owes her for life. However, she slowly sees that Layan will always question her loyalty to her as if she thinks she is beneath her. To which a final confrontation between the two happens with this dialogue -
Rania: You know, I think I now realize what this is all about between me and you, and it ain't about being popular or about our reputation. And I should've realized that sooner, but I didn't. Because this is all complete BS.
      Layan: No, it isn't....
Rania: OH YES, it is. And I always fall for it. You know why? Because we ALL have a weakness. And my weakness is YOU.
Layan: (SCOFFS) Please.... I'm your weakness? Well you got it wrong, because I'm your strength. I always have been ever since what happened to you the first day that we met...
Rania: A-ha! (Chuckles) There it is! I can always count on you playing the guilt card. (Starts to glare) When in the world will that debt be EVER PAID before we're both squared?
To which after Rania leaves Layan or maybe she betrays her (finally giving us audience a cheer since Layan now is suffering), signaling how Rania's "shedding her weakness", and now is attempting to redeem herself for what she's done before.
In the meantime, Mariam has created a gang of her own filled with outcasts and people that suffered from Layan or bullying in general, leading to them doing several more revenge plots, except this time, Miriam's become more dangerous than before, leading to taking no half measures and warns anyone that questions her. Dina and Noaf realize they must find a way to stop Miriam, especially when it's revealed that some of her new plans are complete suicide and if they happen, to sum up in short, Mariam's gonna start war. So now the two must find way to convince Miriam to let them back in, in order to find out what she's gonna do, only to betray her in the finale. And if it means having to kill Mariam, then so be it.
But to sum up what happens in the end, Noaf does end up killing Mariam, as she sees that she can't stop Miriam from turning back now, and many lives are saved in the end. But Noaf is arrested but takes the blame for Miriam's actions, saying it was all her. Noaf finally has accepted that all of this is her fault, from the very beginning, for if it wasn't for her confessing what Layan did to Miriam, Miriam wouldn't have turned into the monster she has become. Noaf will now face judgement, to which her fate is unknown.

they deserve what they got. and the "friends" deserve some too. stopping an SA and inviting someone to a party doesn't cancel out falsely accusing someone of SA, beating them and leaving them for death and exposing their privacy and humiliating them with it, on top of bullying just out of spite. the friends took the easy way out just because it didn't happen to them. basically, all Miriam did was push the first domino and let everything fall into place. what happened to the bullies would've happened eventually. If they didn't beat Miriam to death, they were gonna make her kill herself and you can tell they wouldn't have given a crap.

I think the last straw for her was when her best friend and her OWN mother believed everyone else but her.
My parents were like that at first. When I said over and over that I was innocent and the bully gang hit and bruised me purely for shits and giggles, they always told me that I had to have started it otherwise so many ppl wouldn't mess with me for no reason. So, they ordered me to appologise to them instead.
It was only when I returned home covered in blood did they took me seriously. The principal informed them that I broke two boys' hands using a metal bar, stabbed one in the shoulder with a pencil and tore off a finger from one of them. P.S. I was roll no. 1 in my class so my headmaster was as shocked as my parents cause everyone knew me as polite (which I was indeed). The bullies' parents tried to force me to juvenile jail, but my father pulled some strings and they backed away soon enough. He taught me to be polite to everyone always but it's not like he wasn't a powerful and influencial man.
That day father told me "The fact that I have to use my power to save you proves that you are not mature yet. You've dissapointed me and I hope this doesn't repat ever again." When I spoke out to him that I did it not because of self defense, but cause I was frustrated, he looked at me and told me with a smile, "Stop caring too much. Just let the extras do their thing. Just like in my life you are not my son but a mere side character. (ngl that line hurt a bit back then) Similarly in your life, YOU are the main character and I, your mother and everyone else is nothing but side characters. Who cares what those extras think? Keep your head held high and do as you please as long as your actions don't hurt any innocents."
I took those words to heart, and it's safe to say that no one ever bothered me since or more like I wasn't bothered by anyone since. Whenever someone starts to mock me, I just ignore their existence. Most gets bored and shifts target. The ones that try to get physical stops being innocent in my eyes, so i just beat them up till they flee. Life is good now. Just me, my works and my hobbies. As you can guess one of my hobbies is writing. So if you've come this far, I thank you for reading about my childhood. :)

Noaf is a coward. She could’ve ended those bullies reputation and potentially get them arrested before anybody else got hurt.
How are you going to protect/side with a group that literally left a girl badly unconscious in the middle of abandoned street smh. Miriam friends were the snakes looking out for their own interest and not helping their friend. The bullies got what they deserved simple as that, they was laughing and felt no remorse what they did to Miriam that could’ve got her killed, so why would Miriam feel any remorse for what she did to them. Miriam made her biggest mistake in trusting Noaf and especially Big Dina who had already proven she was no real friend and betrayed Miriam at the beginning. Second mistake was sending Noaf into the bullies room with no plan, consent, or even know how. That left Noaf at the mercy of
The two which the smart one used to her advantage. She had a grown guy push up and saved her from him gaining trust and then stoped Reina from bullying her showing Noaf acceptance and forgiveness robbing Miriam of a potentially valuable ally.

A lot of people here in the comments are saying that what Mariam did was too much. But as someone who had once been bullied, I can say that what she did was not too much. Do you guys know how hard it is to be bullied? It's not just about the physical pain but it is also about the way you feel for being bullied. You feel hatred, being unwanted, and worthless. And I think that is what Mariam felt. So even if what she did was wrong, it was not too much.

Good summary of the show! Life is all about consequences - regardless of how those consequences show up in one’s life. And this show magnified this reality at a time when we are at our most vulnerable age - how we’re molded as individuals; and how we view ourselves based on our own beliefs and how others treat us. And bullying is a good example - it can have ripple effects so big, enough to ruin the lives of the one who bullies and the one being bullied.

All the pain she went through, the therapy session doesn’t help, it won’t be long until she erupts and Karma assists her.
The bullies could’ve stopped but didn’t. They read her journal and everyone at school knows her mental problems. The damage has been done. The bullies have created a monster. It’s too late to make amends.
