From rockets in space to gold underground - hope you enjoy this episode! It was about 3 degrees when we were filming this, hence the huge jacket.
Let me know if you invest in gold or minerals producers in the comments, and what you think of Santana's prospects.

Does New Zealand truly possess the resources to go it alone in this industry? After all, the nation would never receive 100% as much of the experienced crews come from Australia due to decades of neglect to our own skills base.

Just so you know: The Kawarau Gorge running from Cromwell back towards Queenstown is quite possibly the world's largest easily accessible untapped gold reserve. I met a South African gold miner who assayed the gorge for the NZ government in the mid-90s. The price of gold then was under $400 an ounce. Today it's $2440 - over six times higher.
When I asked this guy what the gold was worth in the gorge, he estimated 300 to 500 billion USD at the time. So, today it would easily be a minimum of 1.8 trillion USD dollars.
Then I asked him, "What do you think your chances are of ever getting to mine the Kawarau Gorge?" He replied with, "Zero percent while the government remains solvent."
So it's nice to know that if we ever do look like going belly up, we can destroy that gorge for its gold.

Interesting! Back In the early 30's my Grandfather along with some other Dunedin business men built the weir bridge at the mouth of the Kawara.
They all drove to the opening ceremony, closed the weir gates, in anticipation of wading in downstream and picking up the gold
      What happened!?
The water burst out through the boulders under the weir, barely slowed the flow of theKawarau!

NZ giving mining rights and profit to foreign companies is pathetic. The right coalition govt advocates and incentivizes mining in NZ... but further mining in beautiful NZ is going to cause significant environmental damage, which will impact the country's international reputation as a top tourist destination and potentially damage tourism as the top earner. At least this impact should be made by NZ owned companies! Keep the profit in NZ!!!
