The most challenging adventures are the ones you remember the most vividly. A challenging adventure with friends make for closer bonding and great stories.
Strange time of year to go to Nurburg or the Haute area, snow is always a real threat then. It's not possible to do half laps at the Ring anymore, they've been stopped. You're all mad 😂
I had the same in France near Dijon in March 2008 stopped in a cafe after a hour it stopped snowing waited for another hour until the traffic started to clear the roads and road very slowly out the area 10.miles up the road bright sunshine and dry
What a great bunch of guys! Really enjoyed the on road good humour even when things got worse , and suffered with you through the snow. A Tour to tell the grandchildren and one that will not be soon forgotten. Great going Teapot, Luvin it!!!
I hate snow. Thanks for posting as always interesting. Don’t ride (e bike only) now but brought back memories of me doing Surbiton to Sutton in thick snow Honda 750 3hrs to get to work with legs down the whole way. All the best.
What a trip what a great bunch of lads thanks for planning and taking us Bruce Smart Simon Weir fantastic roads it’s a shame I can’t make this years run .Woo Ha 🏍️🎉🎉🎉👍❄️🌧️
Crikey… hats off you did well there 👏 around 14:30 was waiting for you all to be collected and wiped out …you’re lucky the other vehicles probably had winter tyres on and drivers with half a clue of how to drive 😅
Really felt for you guys there! When the snow falls it comes fast and furious! Living In Switzerland we have snow tires on the car and even then we also need chains at times. I have composite chains for the car that elastic around the wheels something like that would be good for emergency situations for bikes but I doubt there would be any demand for that. You all did great to get back to the hotel 😎👍🏻
Bruce, having been going to the Eifel and the 'ring several times per year for decades, I have to say, that weather and the speed it came in, for that area and time of year is quite normal! I don't go there on the bike until the end of April at the earliest, and take the car between October and May... That National Park High Road is also notorious for that kind of bad weather, nearly been caught out there myself! I understand the temptation to just go anyway and say "it'll be ok", but it often isn't....sadly... LOVE the area, which is why I go there a lot...! :)
Aye the fact we went in March was an admin clock-up on behalf of Simon and I, he said March when we were planning the dates but meant - April, and we didn’t realise the issue until later when the tour had sold out🤦♂️- hence the “Should’ve gone in April” tag line on the vid… it became a bit of a running joke as we were riding along in sleet and snow😬🤦♂️
@@teapotone To be fair, I've driven in baking hot sun, rain, sleet and snow, ALL in the same lap in June, at the 'ring too (I've also done whole snowy laps in June also!), so you really never know what you're gonna get in the Eifel! You chances are just usually, mostly ok in May - Sept....
Hats off to you all - That snow reminds me of a trip on a GSXR750 Slingshot many years ago with Mrs Frary on the back travelling back from Holt to Norwich. Glad everyone made it.
Really enjoy your channel Bruce. Regarding 'quiet zones' I had my first overseas bike ride last year and was surprised to see that 40-50yrs on from my military service in (West Germany) they still ban lorries from the roads from midday Saturday until midnight Sunday. I realised this rule still applied when I left Frankfurt at 4am expecting a nice quiet autobahn head start and found 2 lanes nose to tail lorries.
Brilliant video Bruce fair play to you boys. The guy on the mt10 I'm sure i saw him in the local shop in Aberdeen looking for something more Adventure lol
Having ridden in the snow that is seriously no fun😉, I've been to the cockpit but couldn't find it last time I went to the area but have always loved riding in Germany just not on march or the day it spent the whole time raining hard. That day I had to get changed in an American style diner before I got hypothermia.
Loved watching these vids Bruce. I can watch the drama from a safe distance, as I'm allergic to it. Glad you all had a great time fella. I did the outline of France last year. That would be a great for one of your long distance tours. You've done round UK. why not round European countries. Great channel mate. When I've had a fill of life, I find somewhere quiet and put one of your solo tours on. Puts the world in perspective.
Know that part of the world well, stayed at the Belle Vue, and had a coffee or two at the Ring cafe surrounded by hundreds of fast bikes and cars but it was very hot in Summer! Some brilliant roads around there, mainly closed on Sundays😢 PS. The weather around there is like Northumberland🥶 Glad you all got to the hotel safely seem like a great set of lads.
I use the LoneRider Motobags, they’re absolutely brilliant! Huge carrying capacity (31 & 38 litres), effortless to put on and off the bike in seconds, secure, tough, look great. Only disadvantage I can see is the price
Great video. Thanks for sharing. Also, really enjoyed your Lands End to John O'Groats vid. Quick question, if you dont mind? In this video you seem to have some kind of skirt attached to your helmet. Any chance of a link or a recommendation please bud? Thanks 👍
I actually rode these roads last summer when coming back from Cochem, a place you must check out Bruce!! The roads where very much more enjoyable when it was warm and dry though, love those twisties and hairpins!! I think it's nearly as exiting in that crappy weather, glad your al are ok and had a great time!!
Wow! what an adventure that was! Been caught out by snow before in my despatching days, fine one minute then total whiteout! so hats off to everyone glad you all made rule one.
Agreed....... brought back some horrible memories but glad you all survived! Was a despatch rider for thirty years and caught out many times but that's what bed & breakfast are for and even used the train a few times to get me and the bike back home. Happy days.🤯🤯😁
Great to see you riding my stomping grounds, the Ardennes and Eifel is the best. And my big respect for driving in this weather. That snowy partof the video at 13:37 is at the Hautes Fagne area, you can see the tower at Botrange which is famous reference point for hikers. Its an area where the Belgian commandos train for a reason ;) and famous for its snow in winter, it’s due to sudden altitude increase. Even in summer this area is always several degrees cooler. But a weird rugged and beautiful place, rather Scottish in fact!
Ah, the good and the great go for an outing with lashings of ginger beer... ah, seeing the snow brought back PTSD memories of riding in the snow (and why I don't any more).
Tough in the moment I know but these are the kind of trips you remember. And as a viewer I find them totally compelling whereas no matter the scenery watching a warm weather bike tour just doesn’t cut it,,,,
Good fun. Takes me back to blasting around in the snow as a young teenager in the 70's on my Honda 250. Plastic bags as water proofs, open face helmets, freezing cold and still laugh about it now..
Bruce cracking video again as usual and most entertaining and certainly a buttock clenching ride , having served in the forces for many a years 10 of those in Central Europe/Germany etc I have first hand experience how the weather can change in a blink of an eye a most memorable ride for all I’m sure , keep ya vids coming, best wishes (keep it on the stops ) 👍
The sudden change in weather and the "white out" is because you were riding in the "Hautes-Fagnes" area. It houses the highest point of Belgium and the weather over there is always very tricky. People go and have a walk in nature over there and almost every year there are deaths because of the weather in combination of getting lost. There are also not a lot of roads over there. Once you're in, it's not easy to get out in that kind of weather. Happy trails ;-)
😂😂😂 if I’d have been there I would have shit my pants in all that snow. Top job keeping everyone safe pal, new range of Teapot merch, T-shirts, stickers & mugs with “should’ve gone in April” 😂😂😂😂
They’re these ones bud - Spidi X-Force CE Gloves - Red They’re very light summer gloves, but they let me ‘feel’ the camera buttons really well, and because the GS grips are hotter than the sun, I can wear them through the winter👍 I have an affiliate link with Sportsbikeshop, I don’t think you get any extra discount but I get 2% commission from any sale if you use it👍 www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/#/28328,0,0
@@teapotone Thank you ! I like a lighter glove myself too so I'll pick a pair up with your link I had thought they were waterproof with how much you spend enduring the lovely British weather however 😂
That's the downside around the Nürburgring. Within a few km you can have sunshine or heavy snow even in late April/ early May. The Ring itself is a real (what we call it) weather hole. Everywhere around sunshine and 20 degree but up there lousy cold, snow, fog, heavy rain or the other way around, really weird. Don't ask how I know 😂. Thankfully everyone made it unharmed. 👍
EPIC! Snow is ALWAYS good fun.....erm, that's what I tell myself anyway whenever I'm in it! I understand you guys buy GS for comfort but damn, for snow you'd be better on lower weight bike, one that you could easily lift it by yourself. Now let me ask you, how many of you had M+S tyres?
Absolutely........ I rode a Suzuki GS850G without a clutch cable for four days while waiting for a new one. Precision clutchless gear changes up with very careful low loading downshifts. How do you take away from the lights without a clutch cable..... first gear, electric start and hold on tight!

Did everyone have road tires? Or some off-road tires?
Does it make a big difference in snow? I would think it would.
