I regularly commute in 0 degrees weather. The heated gloves and jacket are a game changer. A colleague of mine gave me a set that he wasn't using anymore and it was amazing. I'm using them daily right now. Best upgrade ever.
I've ridden my Kawasaki Concours all winter here in the Chicago area, big factory windscreen and heated grips standard, also plugged in directly to the bike (no batteries) with 12 volt heated glove liners ($80,) 12 volt heated jacket ($270,), and 12 volt heated boot insoles ($80.) Legs don't get too cold but thinking of adding heated pants. Below freezing not a problem, just avoid snow and ice, but it gets cold at 160 mph+ speeds no matter what.
I was in Belgium in March on the GSA heated vest and gloves and gorge gear got court in a bad snow storm was toasty warm while trying my hardest to keep the gsa upright made it to the hotel with an amazing story to tell, right gear always wins the day . Great video keep on riding 💪🏍👍
Rode with -11 celsius without heated grips, heated gloves , 2 jackets and 2 pants and a balaclava, regret my life for 45 mins straight as I was going to work 😅 great video! Gonna try a few things!
Sheepskin for sure, a great upgrade to any bike! Also great in the summer, as the sheepskin stays cooler than any motorcycle seat under the sun. And if you have natural sheepskin it is also water repellent so it's great on wet days too. Finally, if you're out moto camping the sheep skin can be rolled and stuffed into a nylon bag to make a very comfortable pillow. I put sheepskin on all my bikes!
I road for 15 years all year long, now this was the South but the lowest temp i rode in was 25. my bike is a Harley Ultra with only heated hand grips. i found the putting a neck scarf on sealed off the only leak in my gear. i wore leather chaps and a leather motorcycle jacket. the fairing kept the wind off my body and when my hands got cold i just sat on them as a bike is really stable at speed.
Put hippo hands on a few years ago. Put them on the night before a cold ride. They were iced over when I started. Put on some cheap slip on grip heaters. Inside the hippos my hands are warm and dry in a snowstorm. The grips have been the biggest help for cold riding.
one tip for the Keis jacket, based on personal experience. They tend to be pretty big. I'm and L, towards the bigger end, sometimes I need to buy things in XL but for the Kies jacket, I had to get an M to get a nice fit. The L was way loose and I think I saw more ppl around saying the same thing. Best thing is to get two sizes and return one.
All good content. To your ultimate setup, I added the heated pants and even socks! That, plus the wireless heat-troller (which fits nicely in the storage area on your tank) and your main limitation becomes traction.
Rocky Mountains in CO here. My set up is similar, without the rather spendy Klim stuff. Wool base layer, top and bottom. Polyprop regular "waffle" long underwear over that (again, top and bottom), if needed. Then, pants - either 21oz denim jeans with chaps, or buffalo leather pants. For upper, a single "Old Navy Performance Fleece" or similar, followed by a traditional "biker" leather jacket. Then I can remove layers as needed - and this setup is good (and tested) to 4 hours on the interstate at -10F. For hands - I don't bother with intermediates. Just get electric gloves made for the purpose. I carry two pair - one regular and one made as a glove liner. This way I have, at a minimum, single redundancy for the gloves and double redundant batteries and chargers. Feet? Just two pair of wool socks and some boots. I've never needed more. Then again, I ride a Harley, so heat around the engine is plentiful. Great vid - thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the video! Good advices. Aside from the special gear (many layers) needed to ride in cold environments, I am always concerned about traction. In my car the experience is sometimes scary. I don't even want to think about what would happen to me on a bike under the same conditions. I know many areas are better maintained so my challenges are not a broad problem.
My MSF class was on a weekend where the warmest it got was 27F on the second day. Multiple layers made it bearable for the two days. I have and RT with heated grips and and layered gear that keeps me comfortable on my commute down to the lower 20s (F). Cold weather riding is great, with the right gear.
Very in-depth video. One thing that isn't mentioned is alterations to the bike itself. Specifically the tyres. You must have a soft rubber compound tyre when the temps get below freezing. Heidenau K60 or similar tyres will not grip in the cold and are extremely dangerous at , or even a little above, freezing. Also , living in Canada , many of us have snow mobile gear that is great for cold and wind protection but not so great in a crash 🙂
I used to ride my gsxr1000 in Japan during the winter, man did it suck! Because there was no heated grips, seat etc. Just wore warm suit and enjoyed the suck! Lol cheers bro from Ohio
I need to get most of these...but poor man fix to help a ton. Wont keep super warm but doable. Wear latex gloves under your normal ones, outer layer rain gear/coat
Great video. You are right....Hippo Hands are the best. I use mine with summer gloves underneath paired with AD1 pants and a Roadcrafter jacket. Very versatile and keeps me warm. Again, excellent video. I'm no longer a beginner, but I wish I'd seen this video 20 years ago! LOL.
Great presentation!!! Getting ready for a trip from Oregon to Arizona down the Eastern Sierras of California and your tips will be handy for keeping warm! AND my local shop has all this gear on sale 20% off for Xmas 🎅!!! Woo hoo!!! I mashed the like and subscribe buttons so looking 👀 forward to more of your content! Wheels down dude! 😎
Hey, thanks for the tips about the cold now of course my Honda super cub does not come with heated seats or heated grips but I could do the other stuff so that would be good but I wasn’t sure that as long as I do all the maintenance that I’m supposed to the cub will move when I ask it to And that’s the most important part
Good video but i think the helmet choice is misinformation. You dont want goggles when riding in extreme cold and the visor portion of the helmet is counter productive when on the road.
I have been riding 150 Honda in a very harsh invirment like minus 12 with less equipment available the most thing is how to dictate yourself to face chalinges.
Hahahaha! I love this Swede! I have a new BMW R18 Classic, with heated grips, but I will not take it out in winter. I have winter gloves and full weather gear, but still no…
Hi I have done many winter rides in India wer temperature very from(-5to-25 degrees Celsius) heated grips are must nd some kind of seat insulation nd i would suggest that u can also use an upper rain liner it will provide u with lots of insulation it's one of the best thing to have, but i suggest not to use to much hitec gears for insulation sometime wen u run out of power nd ur body will not be able to produce heat fast enough as u will b providing it with artificial heat so jst use the hitec gears as minimal as possible and for all the riders out there ride safe nd explore the beautiful Nature
doesnt get cold enough here in Australia for all that jazz, what are the bags you have on the crash bars? they look bigger than the crash bar bags on the website
Hi Alex, I saw in this video that you have the Hippo hands, now I would like to buy them too, but they can't be shipped to Belgium. Is there perhaps a possibility to order it through LoneRider? Greetings Mario
Hello! Thanks for all the information and advice! I have a question if I’m 177cm and 73-74 kg and I tried the size 50 and 48 from Rukka… the size 48 it’s a sport on jacket but the 50 it’s a bit bigger… with the midlayer and some body sweater, for which one should I go? And maybe I would don’t ride that much below 0 as well… so maybe I won’t use that much midlayer jacket. Thank you and all the best 🍻
That's Brilliant topic and very well explained. Learn a lot by watching your videos. I am in Canada and love to explore on bike. I would really appreciate it, if you suggest which ADV best. I am not tall like you are though, Lol I am 5'7". Thanks
I was a dispatcher for 12 years I give anything if it was just cold try months of rain cold hale fog all day every day bad drivers sh.t roads and tryed all the best of gear only lasted a few hours and all leaked no matter what the make and kilm gear is over priced in my country
My wife over hearing the intro said, “Get in a car.” Lol, she doesn’t ride.
I totally agree. Wind is what makes cold, colder. I ride in the cold, no problem. Wind makes endeavor insufferable.
I regularly commute in 0 degrees weather. The heated gloves and jacket are a game changer. A colleague of mine gave me a set that he wasn't using anymore and it was amazing. I'm using them daily right now. Best upgrade ever.

Discount Ragnar Lothbrok here called me poor in broken English for 17 minutes straight...

High value information and now I have a renewed interest in cold weather riding.
Rode with -11 celsius without heated grips, heated gloves , 2 jackets and 2 pants and a balaclava, regret my life for 45 mins straight as I was going to work 😅 great video! Gonna try a few things!

Other than sitting on it how do you keep the sheepskin in place ?
I get tha don't get super hot under the sun, but how it will kiip your a$$ cool when riding with more than 35c?
@@incursore9 ventilation, air flow.

What impresses me most is snowy conditions and ultra clear roads . Never in the uk do you get that .

You guys at LoneRider are very kind and the gear is awesome. I appreciated Alex's tips with essential gear for cold weather.
Thank you, this is the most informative video on this exact subject. I was probably looking for this video since last year💀🙏
Thanks for the video! Good advices. Aside from the special gear (many layers) needed to ride in cold environments, I am always concerned about traction. In my car the experience is sometimes scary. What about the tires -?
2004 BMWR 1150rt here with heated grips and saddle.
I purchased tires rated good for wet conditions but not necessarily cold.
Double K (KLIM and KEIS) is the ultimate cold killer 👍I like my gear 😃
My experience is that no amount of insulation under the jacket can equal a windproof jacket over the top
Very in-depth video.

First and only mod, warm place to park it. :)
Cool episode Alex, love the gear you guys provide and talk about! Greetings from #sweden

Level Master: put a newspaper layer on your chest area, between your mid layar and jacket. It's a great windstopper.
Great video! Good products for warmth. Need it for northern Michigan weather.
Definitely getting hand covers for my Africa twin. Awesome advice.cheers mate
You need these....trust me. Hippo Hands are the best!
wow 😳 I'm speechless bro some of those gears are new to me I must admit
i like the bad rushes, thank you for sharing you experience;
Loved the video...but - what tyres are you running in winter? Would love to know more about that, in particular...

one of my favorite channel in TH-cam ! my bike was ninja100 and gs 1250 40th edition :D
Fab video, great gear. Thanks for the tips
You can also get heated balaclavas too🎉 ALSO…..SNOW TIRES?!?! what do you recommend?
Good video but i think the helmet choice is misinformation. You dont want goggles when riding in extreme cold and the visor portion of the helmet is counter productive when on the road.
Haven`t expected a motorcycle riding viking but nice video :D
Just great videos and reviews!!!
Congrats!!!
I have been riding 150 Honda in a very harsh invirment like minus 12 with less equipment available the most thing is how to dictate yourself to face chalinges.
Trima kasih for tip and trik in cold touring bro
My top mod: fireplace, scotch rocks. Repeat. Bike in heated shed.
Very nice video. Thank you!
Please make a video tutorial on how to make a moto vlog shooting so that the video looks as interesting as your video.❤
Hahahaha! I love this Swede!
I have a new BMW R18 Classic, with heated grips, but I will not take it out in winter.

Love from India....🙏❤️❤️
🎉🎉 muy buenísimo para Antártida o geolandia (Polo norte)
too bad he didnt mention the prices on any of these. Would love to know how much that whole setup could cost.
Only clothes setup would cost not less than €4000.
SUPER AWESOME PRESENTATION ALEX. THANKS AGAIN MATE FOR YOUR INFO
I was hoping to also see heated pants AND socks, honestly one of the coldest part of my body while riding sub zero are my feet...
You got a new subscriber brother, nice riding documentary, what software do you use for video editing.
Very cool video!! 🙌
Very informative and great products,
pity we don't have your products in SOUTH AFRICA , A Big GREETING From Errol CAPE TOWN
We do not have a reseller or a store in South Africa, but we do ship there when you order online on our website!
Hi Alex, I saw in this video that you have the Hippo hands, now I would like to buy them too, but they can't be shipped to Belgium. Is there perhaps a possibility to order it through LoneRider? Greetings Mario

It's not fully launched yet, but at that height, I'd suggest you take a good look at the new RE Himalayan..😉
great video.. which gloves are those?
Excellent video, regards from the UK.
Hi,
What do you think about the dainese antartica 2 suit as an alternative to the Klim you are suggesting?
Thhx.
question: how do you clean your moto? to avoid problems with the salt. Thanks
Where can I purchase the LoneRider side bags? Thanks for the video
I was a dispatcher for 12 years I give anything if it was just cold try months of rain cold hale fog all day every day bad drivers sh.t roads and tryed all the best of gear only lasted a few hours and all leaked no matter what the make and kilm gear is over priced in my country
Imagine at the end of the video, the guy is just seated comfortably in a car instead of on a motorbike, completely defying the cold
Production 💯
Good tips ❤
How do you deal with the slippery ice on the roads?
Sana all marunong mag drive
Sana all may motor
Hey dude. You looks like a character of Viking. You have such a pretty symmetrical face.
Sería una delicia tener al menos una chaqueta de esa marca uffff 😢pero creería que son muy costosas saludos
greetings from lithuania i don't own a bike but i got electric scooter 2kw in future i want 125cc
What model of tires are you using in this video? 💪
Personally I wouldnt chose the GS for cold weather or off roading.
Great video Alex. Could you tell me what brand and model is your Krios helmet GoPro holder? Thank you
Thank you! Can't remember as I bought everything back in 2017, I think it's a mix of different brands.
torby są super 👍
I am curious about the tires
Interesting glad I live in Africa😅
New followers ❤❤❤
hallo, well done .Csn you tell me the model of googles?
The ultimate feature for cold days, i personally tested it for years ... a car 😅
Iam too old to drive below freezing anymore.
Yeah❤🙌👏👏👏
Amazing
