When I was little, my parents had a friend who went to Prague, and she brought us back a couple of gifts. One of them was a puzzle, which she had put together, flipped over, written us a letter on, and then took back apart. So we got to put together a puzzle, and then when we finished, we flipped it over to read her letter!

I've been watching Karen's videos while working on family Christmas gifts. I couldn't think of a nice gift, so I bought some puzzles and decided to put them together and paint a landscape from their travels on the back. I'll take them apart and gift the puzzles, and the paintings will be a surprise.

If you had the space you could have set up a smaller board to lay all the pieces out on which you could also have flipped over every time you flipped the puzzle . That way you could always see the pieces for whichever puzzle side you were working on and wouldn’t have to go through the process of individually turning them over every time .

    • @KarenPuzzles
      @KarenPuzzles  4 ปีที่แล้ว +56

I thought about that, but pieces were more likely to fall out the sides when they were layered on top of each other, and I didn't have the space/fabric to put them all out in one layer 😌

I use up to half a dozen trays upon which to sort out my pieces and place them up the right way.
Also I have a few pieces of 1/8th inch thick hardboard , cut to hold typical 500, 1000 and 2000 piece puzzles.
You seem inundated with new puzzles. They will keep you busy for weeks (:- ). A mountain of pleasure ; with a steep gradient.

Suggestion: use binder clips around the edges. It’s like having several hands. You can then hold it in the middle as you flip.

Beach. Postcards are cool, but I like when the poster is bigger than the image on the box. Personally I think 21st-century puzzle companies should include a digital download of the image so you can zoom in on a tablet or laptop. It could even be watermarked I suppose. That's Positano, Italy at 20:00.

Galison boxes are my favorite puzzle boxes, hands down. And they're definitely up there with my favorite puzzle brands. There's a puzzle called Naranjas by them, and it was very enjoyable to put together. But I've never done this two-sided puzzle, both because I anticipated the backside-lower-quality thing, and because the ocean and beach design didn't really appeal to me personally.

As a redhead, I'm not much of a beach girl but I do like this puzzle. I have a double sided Monet puzzle that I have had for a long time. It's one of the only puzzles that have survived my many 'I have too many puzzle' purges because it is so unique. I will have to look for these puzzles on Amazon. Also, I have a suggestion for the flipping if you decide to use this method again in the future... binder clips along the edges. I have used binder clips and felt to hold a few puzzles while they are waiting to be glued and I haven't noticed any slippage in the puzzles even with storing the 'puzzle sandwich' sideways. It's like a home-made Bits and Pieces puzzle tote :)

I have never been so stressed watching a puzzle video as I was with this one! I held my breath every time you flipped it! I love both the images but really don't think I'd like to do either as a jigsaw - the water side has too little detail, and the detail in the beach looks so tiny! I have done double sided jigsaws before. The pictures weren't as distinctively different as this one. You could only tell which side you needed by the shine/dull finish.

What a wonderful 'beach' puzzle. You have more patience than I. And who knew the water scene would be easier. Thats interesting. May have to put that one on my Amazon wishlist. ⛱

You could do a challange where you have to roll a dice and see what side of puzzle you have to work on! It could be interesting 💖

The flipping was a neat idea. Recently I got made a custom collage puzzle of covers from our favourite books and movies, which I'd gave to my partner as a birthday present. It ended up great.

I have never tried one but I've been intrigued by the double sided puzzles by the brand World's Most Difficult Jigsaw Puzzle. It has the same image printed on both sides rotated 90 degrees with respect to each other. I feel like it would drive me nuts but also feel like I need to try one at least once. I will definitely need a trip to the BEACH to relax after that!

Most of my puzzles when I was a kid was made upside down. Because my parents didn't buy me harder puzzles, I had to find another way of challenging myself. 😆
The closest I got to a double sided puzzle was one that had a patterns with small black polkadots and another with stripes on the back. I think those two inspired me to do my puzzles upside down, actually.
They were a 2-in one box so they had patterns to differentiate the two, so that you could sort the pieces with just the pattern on the back and then put them together separately.

Its so wild, the water side of the puzzle has so much texture that its difficult to see where the pieces are cut compared to the sand side

@@vegskater1741 there where about 7 puzzles but some had 50 some 100 and some 35 pieces there where 3 frozen puzzles that looked kinda different but not really and the other ones looked really different.

I think this would've been fun if you would've done this at a 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡
But the people would've probably thought that you were crazy, flipping every 20 minutes lol

You are amazing at puzzling 🥰 I have never tried double sided puzzles- not sure how long it will take to finish both. I’d rather take my time : usually 12 hours for 1000 pieces- I can only imagine ... Beach is beautiful 🥰

what a coincidence since a friend of mine went to the beach today! Fun premise for this puzzle build. Your starting strategy really helped since each side concentrated on a different quadrant. Good job and really cute narrative that you provide. After the fact, I think your flips would have been easier (and not threatened the camera) if you flip on the short side (i.e., front over back instead of side over side)...but maybe not quite as exciting since you had to "navigate" so many obstacles! Fun vid. Seems I'm getting hooked.
