+Serah Wint It's not about handholding to me, it's about supplying motivation. Sure, you can go storm a goblin camp and kill the leader for the sake of it, but you get a better sense of reward and accomplishment when you do it because there's a story compelling you to do it. I can totally understand why people would feel the game is pointless after awhile, not because they couldn't go wander around and do random things, but because it's not interesting enough or rewarding enough to do that.
+Stormie33 I think its pretty rewarding. You wouldnt destroy the goblin camp just for the sake. You also get craft/trade materials by it, which can in some circumstances increase the relation to some certain NPCs by trades or quests and you level up. Also you dont need to get a story delivered by the game itself if you can make your own story/adventure out of it. Other than that you get really motivated to get all the stuff build up in the game and there are many things to build up and maintain. Especially motivating with others together.
BDO is definitely the best mmo experience I've had. Its the first time I've felt this immersed in a mmo. The world is beautiful and alive, it just makes me want to be a part of it.
+Skeptic Gamer Pretty sure he is. I can say the exact same thing and I have 2500 or so hours on FFXIV, so it's not like I don't get the other side of the argument ^^
Fevir i'm a content creator here on youtube as well, and have to say. You have a great commentary style and your MMO videos are some of the best out here! I'm definitely picking this game up. I only got to around lvl 10 in the beta on both of my characters but i seen enough to know i'm going to enjoy it. I've been playing MMO's since 2003 so i've become a bit jaded with this genre but it looks like this game will help with that.
Why didnt you mention the fact that to get a lot of quests, you have to actually talk to NPC's to get information on the quest giver..and to get information on that person to get information on the quest giver, you have to do a quest or bribe them to get that information?...Thats literally one of the coolest things ive ever seen in a mmorpg
+Fevir That was my role. It was a joke in the guild that I was nothing but a fisher in the game. Incoming long ass comment about this video at some point; but I just got back from a long ass drive from the Chinese embassy so I'm too damn tired to write the whole thing out right now. You have my permission, however, to use the "Fortissimo" guild name and our emblem.
+Fevir Please don't recommend this game to Arch age people I know a lot of them will be coming over but frankly no one wants them in Black Desert they are toxic as acid. And if this game fails witch there is a small chance of it doing that chance is gonna be upped by the community players of arch age.
I love your reviews yo. Great to have someone speak intelligently about a games good and bad factors fairly while being entertaining to listen to at the same time
+Lukas Griessenberger Me too. I think that instances destroy immersion and really isolates people from the rest of the world, especially with the way it's done now with fast-travel and teleporting directly into them.
+Mark Borkowski This game has no level cap and no endgame.. just open world bosses for pve :/ Its like wow but they removed instanced pve. Ye and another combat system.
Spent 2 hours on Char creation... Grinded till lvl 23... Decided to be a fisherman... Fishing, fishing, fishing... 23 hours gameplay in total... Run around sell dem fish... Buy stuff from trade manager... Run to another node... Sell the stuff at a higher price to the nodes trade manager... Rinse 'n' repeat... Now I'm rich... Back to grinding lvls ;(
I came into this expecting you to not 'get it' in some way. I was cynical and thought you would either not get the appeal of the game, mischaracterize the features, or misrepresent the legitimate gripes people have and just be another fanboy for it. But damn... I was just flat wrong. I am legitimately impressed by this video and by your insight and mindfulness about this game and genre. This is the single best video, article, or piece of media I've seen about BDO. TH-cam, the MMO genre, and gaming in general need more content creators like you.
+Fevir I would say people only hate on this game because they just didnt have time to understand the basics of it. i had a bad time while figuring stuff out because i felt totaly lost, but when i got the basics like nodes workers and such down i enjoyed the hell out of CBT2
+Holo Camobear I've watched hours of videos and played both CBTs. I won't tell you I understand everything but the things that I did dive into deeply (contribution, laborers, nodes, crafting) they are don't have any real complexity and seem/feel very shallow after you learn it. There is a supposition of opinions happening here where people equate *quantity of things to do* with *depth* and I think that isn't a fair or true comparison.
+Fevir totally agree, i played with the same patch for about 5 months and it was a struggle most times, just because its in english doesn't mean it makes sense lol
Josh T "i have watched hours of videos" yeah, well, i didnt :D i wanted to figure things out myself, and for a first look its quiet hard to learn, but i agree after learning it it seems simple and easy
Personally, I'm very excited for this game. Not having raids or quests that tell you how to play is a HUGE TURN ON for me. I hate having to quest constantly to get anywhere. I am a huge fan of having to get out there and work for a goal instead of trying to figure out what item does what for a quest or who to talk to and which questions to ask which person. Those types of games really turn me off. I also never cared for instanced raids. Open world bosses are a lot better in my opinion. I haven't played yet and I'm waiting for the official release here in a couple days but this game definitely seems like my type of game. And like you said, this game isn't for everyone and that's a GOOD thing. When everybody gets in a game and tries to tell the developer how to make the game it ends up being a muddy half assed everything and everyone will lose interest in it. You can't make everyone happy because everyone has their own preferences and that's OK.
I modded my skyrim alot then i saw black desert and i just knew i had to buy that. Now im level 54 maehwa, about to be level 55. Also working on getting a warrior to 50.
I have seen several of your videos on Black Desert, and only NOW i just realised that you sound Canadian LOL And that happening when i wasn't even paying attention to the video :) Laughed pretty hard there
The sooner players and devs get away from this raiding as the only form of endgame and all this constant hand holding...the better off the MMO genre will be.
+Char Aznable Exactly. To them that is an MMO, without that they aren't interested. Pretty sad. I personally find runnign the same dungeons over and over in some static environment really boring and quite all games that revolve around that as end game content. Get my dynamic player interactions, to good and the bad, and the game is a lot more interesting.
+kooken58 I don't think raids should be the only way to progress endgame, but I do think it should be an option for those who like that sort of thing. If this game, let's say, wanted to make the raid non-instanced, but with the the dungeon itself having it's own instance away from the rest of the world, because I can see how that would strain the servers, let it. In this scenario, let everyone work together to take on puzzles and traps in a tomb and take on the ancient king who has revived. Maybe the king isn't the only boss. Maybe there are optional bosses who were the king's commanders. Let it be a raid where you explore the dungeon and do only what you want to. I'd like to play that. I understand the frustration with no games wanting breaking the mold, though. Let each game put it's own personal spin on the raid.
Syntherus I still believe instanced PvE has its place, but like I said it shouldn't be the only form of endgame. I personally prefer back when dungeons where not instanced. Upper levels of the dungeon were typically solo friendly, but as you got deeper the mobs were much higher level and more difficult to kill requiring a group of people or more. It was a good way to make friends and it wasn't some stupid queue system.
blew my mind when I heard you reference Asheron's Call. I completely agree. AC was my first and favorite mmo for many years, until Star Wars Galaxies. Glad to see an mmo that has an open boundless world to explore without being told what to do.
+skyphaser Skyrim is a product of Bethesda. It sucks. Skyrim with mods is a product of us gaming community. It kicks ass. So there, my statement that Skyrim sucks ass is backed by facts: No one plays Skyrim the way Bethesda made it.
I think the reason this game has such a low ratings is because many people see "Fantasy MMORPG" as just one type of a game, as typical style of WoW, LOTRO, Lineage, etc... So i think many low rates for this game came from people who bought it with different expectations, and were angry they wasted money.
I think a good thing to say to people when they ask about playing it: "Leave everything you know about MMOs at the door". Its moving away from the Everquest/WoW structure which is awesome because hopefully it inspires other developers to make MMORPGs with different gameplay structure. And the combat is pretty smexy
Has you channel just blown up recently? I remember when it used to take you ages to get 1000 views on a video. Congratulations, your videos have always been well put together and I'm glad to see you getting the recognition you deserve.
The main gripe I have about the game is the costumes in the cash shop that cost more than the game itself... and costumes being the only way to customize your apparel, since armor changes close to nothing and the helmets/cloaks don't even show. I honestly would not even really care if the costumes were not so expensive.
what i like is that it makes you feel likea huge singleplayer game with other people, you dont need to grind a dungeon to get that specifik item, you go around killing monsters, and making your own history, earning your gold for the day, go home and look at the marked and buy some goodies for your hard earned money, its more RPG , and i like that
ah, the dream of old-school Ultima Online, back when the only 'goal' was to play the game and explore the world... it was a magical time back then in the 90s =], no pre-conceived bias or 'molds' to follow/copy
whilst I don't agree with everything in this piece, I do share your concerns. I want this game to be a success. Ironically, I also want it to be niche. Not too successful that it gets spoilt trying to cater to everyone.
+enma ai other than housing there will never be instances, but nice try. They are adding more dungeons and raids though, besides the ones they already have in Valencia
+m1n1s1nk Agreed. The biggest selling point for me was no instanced raiding and dungeons(and the no fast travel)... I played WoW for years. I had enough of that for a lifetime. I just want a huge immersive world that feels alive, and I can be a part of. You know... an actual MMORPG... what it's supposed to be.
+enma ai They probably won't because we will get our content (NA/EU) after it is out in Korea and even Russia. The Korean version has Dungeon yes but it is not instanced and even in a Q&A aimed at the developer (Daum is only the publisher for NA/EU) they said they don't plan it because they don't like it. Arena-PvP like 1v1 or 3v3 is something else for them but nothing WoW Raid like
I've been waiting for this game my whole life. Joking I didn't look into it until yesterday. I mean it does fulfill what I've been looking for, for a while now.
I like games that don't overload you with ten thousand tutorials you're forced to do on menial things you could easily learn yourself. It starts to really confuse me when I have to do ten quests at the same time that shows me basic shit that I already found out how to do by playing for 5 minutes.
@Fevir This was the first video of yours I watched, and I was instantly impressed, instead of creating a single minded review, you gave an objective, truthful review of BDO and it sold me. I bought the game, and find myself feeling like i'm playing Dark Fall in it's glory day. Love it. Thanks man.
It was the little things that took me out of the game really. New shield with a different icon? Looks just like your old shield. Suit of armor that looks awesome on the icon? nothing like it on your character and it just adds a belt. Saddle for your horse? bedroll on its ass. It was things like that that just left me feeling like nothing mattered. I want to get that next piece of gear to look awesome, and if it doesn't change anything about my character I just really don't care to keep playing. I enjoy romping through open world 'dungeons' (spent hours at the castle with the rebel leader, killed him so many times as well as his cronies pretending I was sieging the castle) and even crafting but that eventually came down to grinding out mats at waiting for stamina which ruined THAT experience. It's pretty, it plays really well as far as combat but at the end of the day It's like a big giant lake of water only knee deep. not for me but I can appreciate the effort and where it wants to go.
This sounds like a old school MMO, thinking about Lineage II when i saw this video. Guilds declaring war against each other, guilds can own castles and such... Damn sounds great!
1 - I never liked PvE endgame. It's a false sense of doing something. Open world, sandbox, lack of direction is right up my alley. I don't lack the imagination to keep myself interested while others just stand around spamming in the chat because they are bored. Only boring people get bored. 2 - I am happy to finally see a game that gets outside of the box rather than just talk about it. Instead of getting rid of the trinity while keeping the need for it, they got rid of trinity and the need for trinity, as there is no dungeoning. Finally, you can group with people because you like them, not because you need that class. Now, if you want to be a jerk in a group, you will end up alone rather than everyone putting up with you because they need your class in the group. 3 - The cash shop items that give bonuses are negligible. They will not give any player an advantage that would make me feel I need to get anything in the cash shop. People are persecuting Daum for something that they haven't done. The prices are expensive, but not pay to win. It's like some people want the game to fail because the more people that fail around them, the better they can feel about themselves for failing.
This game gets so many things right it just blew my mind. I grew up with Everquest and Lineage 2 so I'm totally used to leveling via "the grind", in fact I like when I can chose my own leveling spots instead of questhubs telling me where to go next. And that's only a tiny part of what the game has to offer. As for exploration, immersion and all the life skills... this is a better Skyrim than Skyrim, it's just unbelievable.
+Composer Viktor I played Mabi for years but the repetitive dungeons and shadow missions got boring, I would just sit in Dunby talking to people. Same with Vindi, the combat is fun, but running the same missions over and over gets old real quick.
+Tina Garcia Idk, raids are pretty fucking satisfying in vindi - not to mention there's a lot of them, and there's a shit ton of stuff to do in mabi besides the dungeons and stuff - but it all really falls down to the ability to have friends and make it worthwhile with the experiences. Anyway, for bdo, it would be perfect to me if they made use of the epic fighting system and added intense boss fights instead of Zerg fests, and if they expanded the life skills and stuff to the extent mabi was, but it's still a work in progress so maybe it'll get there- I just hope someday we can compose our own music again lol
I am glad this game won't be for everyone, not holding players by the hand while luring them with purple gear as you put it. Looking forward to something different but still reminiscent from my LI2 gaming days. 5 more days to wait. YAY!
This game would be the best MMORPG of all time, but the dicks that own the Licence laid a IP block for a lot of countries, and the majority of Latin America. I really don't understand game companies, i just want to give them my money and play the fucking game.
+Mauro Garcia They need to be allowed to host the game in that region. For example, for this game to be allowed to be hosted in China, all the Skeletons/enemies that show bones, would have to be changed as that's illegal in China. There's more to it than just opening sht up, I obviously don't know their exact reason.
lucioluciolucio85 Ok, poor choice of words. It's not straight up forbidden, but a lot of companies localizing a game do choose to censor to release the game quicker. WoW skeletons for example who got the flesh back on their bones. So while it's not forbidden, there are apparently complications surrounding it, I don't quite understand it myself, so google is your friend here lol.
The game recently launched here in Brazil and...so far, as long as I've been playing Guild Wars 2 and was comfortable being a casual player in that game, I can say that BD has pushed me to look forward into not only myself as a gamer but as my character and what to become in the sandbox world, the way the map reminds of Civilization games or other RTS's is really amazing, you truly feel like a merchant. I look forward to the next expansions get more professions ( maybe lawyers, doctors, engineers for the castles? xD) It isn't a game for everybody and I hope it stays that way...
How do you really know who the game is meant to be for? My point is looking at the developer commentary, there seems to be some disconnect between the developers long term goals and what some of these players expect. For example, they dont want it to be just an open pvp based world, but said they want to cater to every play style and appeal to a larger group of players. This is counter to what you are suggesting. I think we do not see it yet, because of what their development focus has been on atm... but I also wouldnt go around claiming who the game is for as its not really up to the players to suggest that. That said, one thing I would really love to see is some better enemy AI. They literally do not recognize your presence until you are practically standing on top of them, and thats not very challenging, especially when you run into a hostile enemy camp and kill their companions a few feet away yet they remain oblivious.
+RabenWulf I am not so much claiming what it is- but giving the viewpoint of the people who are really hyped for it- and why. There are tons of aspects of the game I don't cover that encompass what the game has to offer..
+RabenWulf This is largely because no sane developer will ever flat out just say "We don't give a damn about "Target audience X" or "Group of people Y"". In the end of the day any copy of the game bought is a win for them even if you buy it for the wrong reasons and end up not playing it. I'd listen to Fevir - dude knows what he's talking about ;)
Corey And what kind of guy does your comment make you, huh? RabenWolf does not "complain" - wrong or not, they've explained their reasoning. Meanwhile I fail to spot anything constructive in your comment. If you want to just point fingers and ostracize someone, there are plenty of retards under some of the other comments. I wish it were only "one person"...
Honestly i've played different mmo's and never liked any, played this beta and loved it. I've been wanting a mmo that doesn't hold your hand or forces you to do quests. You can progress anyway you want and its amazing. The only thing I dislike is not being able to really change my aesthetics... I don't know if this changes later but I don't wanna be looking the same in the end game as I did in the beginning, I really enjoy visual progression
+MSN740 Sadly there are only about 5 different beggar appearances for each class. Only way to look better/different is to drop 32$/€ on a character bound costume lol so if aesthetics and character appearance is your thing, better be ready to unsheath your credit card bro
Hyunckel I like different outfits. I'm not someone who needs to change 24/7 but if there's about 5 different appearances it's okay. Defiantly wish there were more tho :(
+Hyunckel Yea someone mentioned they are expensive, but they must have taken a lot of time to make these outfits/costumes as the person mentioned they looked good. Also with no Subscription even if u pay 100 bucks for the Conq pack this is still Less than half a YEAR of WOW...15 bucks a month...I think a few outfits once ina while would not kill anyone.
Fevir ty for explaining these things because alot of people ik love these type of games but they do not understand the feel of the game because they are afraid that they will be alone and find it dificult and they figure that my opinion isint enough and now with your video i can finnaly convince them so ty
+Elias Von porat Very much a very small minority of people actually put off by this, judging by the posts on the 3 sites I frequent, game's forum included.
I wish there was a Male tamer but other than that I don't really care. That being said there are a few classes that have both male and female but if you're hoping to make a younger male wizard don't hold your breath.
I'll say that the beta was better than I expected it to be on release. I'll be playing it for awhile I think (the division) I just have a feeling about it
I love the whole trying to hide the failure of nothing to do at the end with possibilities that we know won't happen in the real world and will only lead to more frustration.
Its not just a lack of PVE instanced dungeons, its a lack of anything worth while PVE wise. Nothing is threatening in 99% of the monsters you face as long as you are half way competent in playing the game. AI is god awful and i have not idea how you would fix it. While the skills ARE cool, actually killing things feels more like ARPGs where you slaughter millions of monsters but nothing will actually kill you because they can barely fight back.
I played in the last beta for a bit and had a BLAST with the combat, and the world was breath taking. I did find allot of the mechanics like the worker system, horse breeding, and the node system to be VERY confusing at first and seeing as I didn't have too much time to sit down with the game (was playing the division beta at the same time) I wasn't able to figure them out as well as I wanted to. I've watched a few videos to help guide me through it since and hopefully I'll have a better grasp at launch.
You did really well explaining a lot of the issues about BDO. Many are too familiar with the generic MMORPG structure that many have adapted and BDO is trying to change that.
Yeah, and it doesn't make any sense to me since there are so many MMOs just like that out there. Why would one want to keep playing the same thing over and over? It's almost like it's become a religion. (End game raids, end game dungeons, end game content)
+Yammy Yams too bad they could not make skyrim even 2 player co-op and what year is this? 2016? I know skyrim is a bit older but still...its about time. Also have u played it? This is not ESO...so im not sure what your comment is about?
+Char Aznable Uh... what game have you been playing? Skyrim most certainly does NOT need mods to be good, I hate assholes that say shit like that. I bet you loved Oblivion and Daggerfall, and only hate on it because you can. God, gamers are an entitled bunch.
I so hoped for an statement of you to this game!!!! Glad to hear you will play this 2. In some ways this game reminds me of ragnarok :D (Special Interest Playerbase)
"Through conditioning, that mini-game symbolizes both item and character progression." Very aptly stated. Conditioning indeed. The vast majority of gamers don't have the critical lens to remain open to designs that are unfamiliar.
Guys do not buy this game because it will become free to play shortly after comes out !!!!! the developers knou the is a weak game and and they try to make as many money
+iulix max I don't think this is gonna happen soon enough though. It may take 8 months or a year for it to be free to play depending on how much they earn from release and throughout.
+iulix max This is a flawed argument. Of course they want to make money - And you know.. with licenced titles from korea they usually come with some VIP/Premium Model, which is kinda mandatory if you want to play it seriously. So im perfectly fine with paying 30$/€ for a VIP free enviroment. There is also the argument, that there are B2P games with cash shops - like GW2. It really depends on how the prices in the cashshop develope over time and what type of item they put in to feel swindled. Hell - if i get 20 hours of dedicated fun out of 30$ im completely fine with that and this is most likely to happen with a freaking good looking sandbox mmo with some nice (crafting/economic/immersion) systems in place and a good action-combat system.
+Florian H. He is correct. Most devs do this now. Buy the box for the first few months, then "cave" and go fully FTP with an even more onerously OP'd cash shop.
Great descriptive video lovely job!! The only thing that I'm worried about is the grinding aspect in this game, I'm very glad it's pvp focused. I don't care for end game pve I just want to pvp, but fairly, would suck if you get owned by someone who's spent 100 more hours grinding than you in pvp. I'm hoping the community can or maybe already is in the local chat or whatever sorting out even and fair pvp fights (similar or the same gear level or whatever it's called) If this game really does turn out to be a grindfest I'll be thoroughly disappointed. The combat looks so bloody good!:(
Thank you for this video, until I watched it I really was not aware of this game other than a single FB ad. From what you presented in the video I think it might be a game that is right up my alley, it sounds like how many people imagined ESO was going to be. Thanks again!
Anyone remembers zones like Tyr's Hand from vanilla wow? Is that the kind of end-game content in BDO? Because call me in for that, zones with increased difficulty, build around groups, which can be done solo, but often require help from strangers when things go south? As open world as it gets, helping to build communities and friendships, while thanks to pvp creating as well foes and feuds. Now the pvp just needs to be not to punishing and the world big enough to evade trouble as well.
I like what you did there in the negatives section. no one feels "lost" because quests don't give xp. they dislike it, because that's just a bad idea...quests should give xp. it's just another form of grind, yes, but it gives you a feeling of doing stuff.
Your review reminds me a lot of a review I once wrote for Eve Online. The game has a niche market, has god-awful tutorials, caters to a pretty specific type of player, doesn't attempt to contend with the WoW's and EQ's of the current time, and just works to do it's own thing. Thanks for the review, I"d already bought the $50 package, and this video made me feel better after watching people freak out the last few days. All I have to say is that if both BDO and Crowfall flop, I will never pre-order/Kickstart an MMO again. Period.
+Fevir You mean a new video every day (╯✧∇✧)╯?? You're by far my favourite content creator at TH-cam, keep it up!! I hope Black Desert succeeds in the NA/EU, I'm really hyped about it and I've been playing it to some extent on different versions and hope that it wont fail like ArcheAge got butchered :( We need new fresh mmo's here that won't fall in the typical theme park slots!
Night time in many games is often terrible b/c no attention is given to how different shadows and shadow opacity work at night. They keep the same shadow opacity during the night as the day, which creates zones of zero visibility, because what little light they give for the moon or stars is completely overpowered by shadows. Could be so easy to fix... but they don't.
I pray they dont give into the negativity and that the ppl who dont like it just move to a different game or give it another shot with a different standpoint and mindset. Also I was legit hyped when you mentioned revival glad to know its not completely unheard of :D I played the CBT2 and found that I dont want to rush to soft cap but explore every option in the towns omw to the "end game" Ive found a few npcs that if you just talk to them and raise your Amity lvl with them they can have more quest for you to do and i was blown away at how simple a task of just talking to an npc can add some more content for me and that so many ppl didnt either realize or care about that!! well anyways i hope they dont back down and who knows i may see you in the game til then keep up the great Vids Fevir
That was an awsome video bro, going to be new to the game and pc for that matter and really enjoyed your advice. I love games like the elder scrolls series and the souls series so this looks AMAZING!
Great info! Don't forget you can adjust focus, angle, and zoom with shift/alt/ctrl + arrow keys after hiding ui btw. Not hating or being picky, it just looked like you wanted to look up that tower but it was blurry.
I like that the focus isn't leveling up. That was probably the biggest thing I thought I didn't like about Black Desert. I watched some beta gameplay and decided that it looked like every other fantasy mmo I've ever played. Combat mechanics and character creation wasn't enough to draw my attention, because I "knew" I was going to have to grind. Now that I heard that level isn't the overall goal. I might be interested. I hate quests too. I will keep looking at it.
I heard someone once complain about the lack of customization from the crafting system, and I can see how that would be an issue. I personally couldn't quite figure out the crafting system in the short time I got to play. I did however notice there really needs to be some class tweeking. Valkyrie for instance can one shot just about anything with a shield throw or just a few strikes, but a Giant Berserker will have to sit there and whale on something for a good 15 to 30 seconds to kill it.I'm running on a R9 Fury X and with the high-def graphics on I was only getting about 20 FPS, turned off I was getting 50 to 60. So I know its already been worked on for VR, I'm wondering how badly this will hit our FPS.
thx for this vid you realy explained the game good so im lucking forward to play it because i like the idea of not playing a typical quest-based mmo-game :D
This game sounds sooo good to me. My only problem is that I just got into Blade and Soul and am not sure I have the time and inclination to play both. And Battleborn is coming up, a game of a different genre but one I do plan to spend some time playing, the Closed Technical Test was a lot of fun and I'm a Gearbox fan. If I didn't feel loaded down with games already it would be a no-brainer for me. Thanks for the insight vid Fevir! You may have pushed me over the edge with the Asheron's Call reference. :)
Welp, this video convinced me to give it a try. And the final straw was one phrase. Where you compared it to Asheron's Call. That game was my home for 5 years, all of it PvE. And for someone who has played this game to compare it to my first MMO home means it is a strong indication I might finally find an MMO I can spend more than 2-3 months in it.
I for one find the lack of handholding in this game really refreshing.
I swear it lobotomizes people on other MMO's
+Porkify Are you for realzies
+Porkify It is the most immersed I have felt in any game since the start of Star Wars Galaxies. Looking forward to early access to start.
Ricky Carrender You guys are making me terribly excited. I cannot handle it.
+EQOAnostalgia That means a lot from some of the old guard of MMORPGs :)
Started playing it a few days ago. Totally hooked.
I only wish I had heard of BDO sooner.
Your videos are so reflective, I love it! They give me a real insight of the games you review :) Thank you!
Nolan.. I need you to make a guild and let me be THE fisherman.
+Nolan Alighieri notice me senpai
no
***** The toxic community of arch age
You mentioned Asheron's Call in this video. Instantly subscribed. Time to watch more of your Black Desert content. Keep doing what you are doing.
So basically, its a real world in which your character has to make his/her way in without being a "hero" or "specialborn"? SIGN ME UP!!!
I love your reviews yo. Great to have someone speak intelligently about a games good and bad factors fairly while being entertaining to listen to at the same time
I love that there is no stupid Instanc in this game. This is the first MMO since long i love.
Thank you for naming AC, Me and my friend were stating how alot of it reminded us of it. Good times good times.
Someone besides me remembers Asheron's Call. 10/10, 100/100, best gamer.
Great video Fevir !! I really can't wait to play BDO I got hooked like hell during CB2, so amazing !
the game is absolutely fantastic and very unique as far as mmos go. Been playing since CBT1.
+Justin Dixon I can't get over how much better the game feels with a proper translation than when I played it back with an english patch
If this brings back old school mmo features back into the light, im happy. So many features in this game that brings me back to Ultima Online.
Asheron's Call was my first ever mmo back when I was 15 years old!...wow that was a long time ago.oh the memories.
I appreciate your viewpoint. It was very well articulated and helped to manage my expectations for this game. Well done!
I like your explanation of the "end game" content of this game, I've never looked at it in this perspective.
I need to play this game! My Brother has started to play it and it's making me so jealous.
I could cry!
+coral k You're gonna play NA or EU?
lmao
Hiro The Phantom was j/w cause it def looks like you do...if that is the case you should play on our server.
You explained the experience of this game a lot better then anyone else!
I modded my skyrim alot then i saw black desert and i just knew i had to buy that. Now im level 54 maehwa, about to be level 55. Also working on getting a warrior to 50.
I have seen several of your videos on Black Desert, and only NOW i just realised that you sound Canadian LOL
And that happening when i wasn't even paying attention to the video :) Laughed pretty hard there
The sooner players and devs get away from this raiding as the only form of endgame and all this constant hand holding...the better off the MMO genre will be.
+aPersona a Yep, that is exactly what I was implying.Straw man me harder.
+kooken58 My favorite game of all time, the number one on my top 5 of all time favorite games, FFXI
blew my mind when I heard you reference Asheron's Call. I completely agree. AC was my first and favorite mmo for many years, until Star Wars Galaxies.
Glad to see an mmo that has an open boundless world to explore without being told what to do.
From Skyrim to Black desert
+Bob Barker Skyrim sucks ass...
+M4rcin Ahahahahahahahaha
***** exactly thanks xD
+skyphaser Skyrim is a product of Bethesda. It sucks. Skyrim with mods is a product of us gaming community. It kicks ass. So there, my statement that Skyrim sucks ass is backed by facts: No one plays Skyrim the way Bethesda made it.
+Kenneth Donnelly 100% agree with You, sir. Thats why I hate Skyrim and all Bethesda games. Sorry fanboys...
that moment when u started slaying those friendly creatures dancing around having fun i almost cried haha :´(
I think the reason this game has such a low ratings is because many people see "Fantasy MMORPG" as just one type of a game, as typical style of WoW, LOTRO, Lineage, etc...
No instanced pve dungeon crap? That makes me more interested in the game.
Has you channel just blown up recently? I remember when it used to take you ages to get 1000 views on a video. Congratulations, your videos have always been well put together and I'm glad to see you getting the recognition you deserve.
I got sick of theme parks. This looks great
very well done video as always Fevir
The main gripe I have about the game is the costumes in the cash shop that cost more than the game itself... and costumes being the only way to customize your apparel, since armor changes close to nothing and the helmets/cloaks don't even show. I honestly would not even really care if the costumes were not so expensive.
+Chance Trimble Heard about this, looks like ill be buying my friends 30 dollar copies to play....lol instead of costumes.
what i like is that it makes you feel likea huge singleplayer game with other people, you dont need to grind a dungeon to get that specifik item, you go around killing monsters, and making your own history, earning your gold for the day, go home and look at the marked and buy some goodies for your hard earned money, its more RPG , and i like that
ah, the dream of old-school Ultima Online, back when the only 'goal' was to play the game and explore the world... it was a magical time back then in the 90s =], no pre-conceived bias or 'molds' to follow/copy
+CYI3ERPUNK EverQuest as well.
I love that you call raiding a mini game. I've never heard it put that way before.
whilst I don't agree with everything in this piece, I do share your concerns. I want this game to be a success. Ironically, I also want it to be niche. Not too successful that it gets spoilt trying to cater to everyone.
Always love your clear and good videos Fevir :)
God lets pray to god they never add instances to this game at all.
Most likely they are
+enma ai other than housing there will never be instances, but nice try.
They are adding more dungeons and raids though, besides the ones they already have in Valencia
+enma ai
Even after 1year + in Korea still no instances, there is one open world dungeon however and more are coming.
Damn sounds great!
black desert : moded skyrim online
+djay T-b What can be better than that? :))
+djay T-b So what ESO should have been.
the game is shit , it makes it so you have to pay to enjoy it
+djay T-b You are completely wrong actually, maybe it is p2w korean servers but not in the western ones
***** i did stop playing games, was best decision of my life
Hands down, best review of BDO I've seen. Bravo!
Life skills still done best in mabinogi, and combat still best in vindictus, and sandbox still bigger in EVe Online - but its still fun lol
+Composer Viktor It's a shame that mabinogi and vindictus visually look so bad- they were pretty decent games.
+Composer Viktor I played Mabi for years but the repetitive dungeons and shadow missions got boring, I would just sit in Dunby talking to people. Same with Vindi, the combat is fun, but running the same missions over and over gets old real quick.
+Fevir what, how is vindictus ugly LOL
Composer Viktor It looks like a PS2 game on max settings :S
+Just Kats Wait a sec...showing bones in China is forbidden?
lucioluciolucio85 Ok, poor choice of words.
Just Kats
Sounds kinda weirdo, but what i could expect? :D
thx for the info
I'd listen to Fevir - dude knows what he's talking about ;)
+RabenWulf Always one person that misinterprets something and complains. You're that guy huh.
I didn't even read all that, you must have a lot of time on your hands neckbeard
A Korean MMO with a horrible grind? The hell you say! /sarcasm
Fevir ty for explaining these things because alot of people ik love these type of games but they do not understand the feel of the game because they are afraid that they will be alone and find it dificult and they figure that my opinion isint enough and now with your video i can finnaly convince them so ty
Really no mention about the gender and age restricted classes?
+Elias Von porat you win some, you lose some.
not much to talk about that is there?
it's an issue only considered important to some, not all.
+Elias Von porat Very much a very small minority of people actually put off by this, judging by the posts on the 3 sites I frequent, game's forum included.
I wish there was a Male tamer but other than that I don't really care. That being said there are a few classes that have both male and female but if you're hoping to make a younger male wizard don't hold your breath.
the way you describe this game, sounds like i'll love it
The Division? Anybody really care about that crap?
+HisingenWolf Maybe if Ubisoft didnt have anything to do with it.
+HisingenWolf not really
+HisingenWolf Yes.
I'll say that the beta was better than I expected it to be on release. I'll be playing it for awhile I think (the division) I just have a feeling about it
+HisingenWolf Division is boring. BDO all the way. I just want to fish and sail my boat to see the Leviathan :D.
I love the whole trying to hide the failure of nothing to do at the end with possibilities that we know won't happen in the real world and will only lead to more frustration.
Hand holding and lack of content are two completely different things.
one thing i hate about this game. pixels snap.
Gonna play this game for Years! Rly enjoyed the Beta so much its rly rly good looking! thats the game i was looking for all years long. Great Video!
I don't know why but I love sailing in mmos, I even found the rowboats in Archeage fun. Seeing that there's sailing in this game makes me happy.
That distance blur effect is just horrible.
I've watched a few videos to help guide me through it since and hopefully I'll have a better grasp at launch.
depth of field the game
You did really well explaining a lot of the issues about BDO. Many are too familiar with the generic MMORPG structure that many have adapted and BDO is trying to change that.
+KennithTee So many are so dependent on the system they are enslaved by that they will resort to regression in order to defend it.
Yeah, and it doesn't make any sense to me since there are so many MMOs just like that out there. Why would one want to keep playing the same thing over and over? It's almost like it's become a religion. (End game raids, end game dungeons, end game content)
game feels terrible, i'll keep to my skyrim
+Yammy Yams too bad they could not make skyrim even 2 player co-op and what year is this? 2016? I know skyrim is a bit older but still...its about time. Also have u played it? This is not ESO...so im not sure what your comment is about?
+Douglas Duda Please don't feed the troll.
Char Aznable idk what you're laughing about, modded skyrim is still a better game than most..
+Char Aznable Uh... what game have you been playing? Skyrim most certainly does NOT need mods to be good, I hate assholes that say shit like that. I bet you loved Oblivion and Daggerfall, and only hate on it because you can. God, gamers are an entitled bunch.
eh i actually just got pissed off at skyrim, it kept ctding even with no mods and a fresh install on, compleeeete bs.
Looking at this video I thinking it reminded me of Asheron's Call. Glad to hear someone mention it since I'm not sure that people know it existed.
Well, Division is garbage, so BDO it is.
gamers like you makes sure that there is still hope in this genere
Combat is kinda gw2...seems boring.
+LoDrAkK/// dont compare it to that crap
+LoDrAkK/// Completely different.
+LoDrAkK/// it seems ppl that have never played gw2 or bd are upvoting ur comment because they have absolutely nothing the same
+Martin Ivanov It almost seems like these people are utter idiots, but that can't possibly be on the internet, can it? :)
+LoDrAkK/// gw2 has one of the best combat systems in any mmo... you probably just never got good at it ;)
I so hoped for an statement of you to this game!!!!
Glad to hear you will play this 2. In some ways this game reminds me of ragnarok :D (Special Interest Playerbase)
open world pvp... that's all i need to know to NOT play this game.
+Tcheco Lee lol what a fckin carebear
+Tcheco Lee I love owning players like you
casual spotted
+Tcheco Lee I think before you say that, you need to learn more. They make PKing/player griefing very hard, there's a complex karma system in place.
+Tcheco Lee oh come on.
"Through conditioning, that mini-game symbolizes both item and character progression."
Very aptly stated. Conditioning indeed. The vast majority of gamers don't have the critical lens to remain open to designs that are unfamiliar.
Guys do not buy this game because it will become free to play shortly after comes out !!!!! the developers knou the is a weak game and and they try to make as many money
+iulix max yup. All signs point to this already.
+iulix max I don't think this is gonna happen soon enough though. It may take 8 months or a year for it to be free to play depending on how much they earn from release and throughout.
But there really is no denying this was the plan from the get go. If that is the case, then it is hard to not feel swindled.
I'm hoping the community can or maybe already is in the local chat or whatever sorting out even and fair pvp fights (similar or the same gear level or whatever it's called)
If this game really does turn out to be a grindfest I'll be thoroughly disappointed.
Period.
Loved this review. Had so many questions about the game that you already answered in the video. Thx!
+Sergi Arilla Glad it helped :) This kicks off the 7 days of Black Desert.. so hopefully I'll answer some questions you didn't know you had
Well said Fevir.
+TheHiveLeader You should put your cartoon face as your icon. You fuckin with BDO?
Fevir I should... I'll get on that. And yeah I'll be fuckin' with BDO when it launches.
+Fevir BRO! Asheron's Call was my genesis, my first foray in MMO's. Nobody talks about AC! xD
Also I was legit hyped when you mentioned revival glad to know its not completely unheard of :D
I played the CBT2 and found that I dont want to rush to soft cap but explore every option in the towns omw to the "end game" Ive found a few npcs that if you just talk to them and raise your Amity lvl with them they can have more quest for you to do and i was blown away at how simple a task of just talking to an npc can add some more content for me and that so many ppl didnt either realize or care about that!! well anyways i hope they dont back down and who knows i may see you in the game til then keep up the great Vids Fevir
wow you're back fevir welcome back
+catybunbun Yooooo.. I been around... 4 videos this month! haha
+lakingoki I did.. but I had monsters behind me constantly messing with my dof
what makes black desert so special for me ? well it IP blocked me out cos of this it has a special place in my heart :D
