1. Track your task time manually. 2. Get clear on your priorities (preferably by a paper list) 3. Batch your tasks effectively 4. Learn to say "no" (to distractions) 5. Use deadlines
Although “rest” has bad rap in the productivity world, “rest” is one of the most significant yet under appreciated methods of balancing your energy. Deliberate periods of rest are a great way of clearing your foggy mind to focus with intensity on your work. In the context of productivity, this would be a great video.
It would also be very useful and valuable to distinguish between activities in rest and entertainment. e.g meditation vs. watching TH-cam. The latter is not helpful with resting the mind, it's more like a force shut off and can even backfire if you end up watching more in depth videos, which I do for fun but can easily overdo, especially when overworked and ready for a break. And that kind of entertainment is merely the illusion of rest.
One really good question I like to ask myself before taking any commitments; "If I wasn't offered this opportunity would I have sought out doing it myself?" Helps me choose the really important stuff.
“Remember that time is money.” - Benjamin Franklin The best way to stop wasting time : - Prioritize Put to-do’s in 4 groups: 1- Urgent and important 2- Not urgent but important 3- Urgent but not important 4- Neither urgent nor important The goal is to have as few things under “urgent and important” as possible. Those cause stress when they pile up. If you manage your time well, you’ll probably spend most of your time on “not urgent, but important” -- that’s where you can get the most useful things done and keep from feeling overwhelmed later.
Overcommitting myself is how I keep myself from wasting time. Like I have a part time job and don’t get home on most school nights till 8, so I know that I don’t really have time to procrastinate on my homework. On my days off, I tend to procrastinate and waste time and start my homework at basically the same time. So if you don’t have free time you won’t waste your time because you don’t have any time to waste.
Kudos to you! I have found that doing the same thing to a certain extent also helps; but before that a certain level of self-discipline is required, and I think a lot of people need to work on that first. In an odd way, discipline is liberating. Just my 2 cents :D
A little addition to the final tip that has really helped me: if you have difficulties setting your own deadlines, either because you don't know how long it will realistically take you to do something or because you just don't honor them (I find it hard to cram in the long work sessions I usually have for an external deadline if it is one I set myself), try deciding how many hours you want to dedicate to this task each week instead. This also allows you to take some time off when you've reached your hour-count, so you don't have to quit netflix or videogames all together but don't have to feel guilty about it either
I didn't give the point about saying 'no' much thought when you mentioned it, I've heard about this in the past but I realise now that it's a very powerful reason for why we procrastinate. If we have too many goals, you end up sitting around worrying about remembering everything you have to do rather than sitting down and starting to do at least something but more importantly, the things you prioritised for yourself.
I don't know if you saw my previous messages but THANK YOU THOMAS for bringing so many of your lovely subscribers to my video "Kupla - You're beautiful" through your music playlist.

I feel the same, too. Another productivity video I saw on youtube seemed more suitable. You create time blocks, say of 3-4 hours. So, minus the 8 hour sleep, the 16 hours can be divided into 4-5 blocks. Maybe the first one for morning daily chores like brushing, bathing and some form of exercise. The good thing about this a you have an idea of what to do but you're not bound by it. For example, exercise is the broad category. One day, it could a morning walk, the other day Yoga. Another time block could involve going out. It could involve meeting friends/clients for a coffee or for shopping and running errands. Started using toggl before watching this video, seriously, best time tracking app. You could use siri shortcut, so much more convenient than the other ones.
I do enjoy your videos and have learned quite a bit from them but here in particular you introduce so many apps and ways to time-manage your time that counters what message you are trying to spread. People will most likely waste their time tinkering with the software and thinking they are organising their time in the app whilst not actually getting to the point of doing it. This wastes time too.
Yep, time tracking is a good idea to manage tasks and make a retrospective after that. As an alternative to manual managing tasks, I've chosen time-tracking apps. As for me, tmetric.com app matches all productivity issues, I can see my daily progress in real-time, analyze and evaluate my profitability.
Hi Tom, Could you please talk about how do you teach your self? I know that you're a content creator and you have 2 other podcasts in addition to this channel. So, it'd be helpful to share your learning style. Thank you
I think videos over public speaking is the more efficient choice; it's basically the same thing, you can edit, and you can potentially reach far more people and still have income. Perhaps universities and the like just have a wholly subjective taste for traditional classroom-style lecture.
Time management can be really hard for me. I tend to get everything I want to get done in a day, but usually not in the order or amount of time I expected. I'll have to try the timer app. It will be interesting to see how long tasks really take me. I do feel motivated when there's a stopwatch going!

I STRONGLY disagree with the statement "A Busy Life is a Wasted Life". My wonderful husband was a very busy man, but he found time to help raise our two children, a son who is a Sargent in the Army and a daughter who is a pre-school teacher. Both today are very giving people. He also worked toward making a new school possible in our community, expanded a Boy Scout District, rescued a Knights of Columbus council from folding as well as forming a new council before his death. He also found time to be my husband for 32 years. DOES ANY OF THIS SOUND LIKE A WASTED LIFE? Sorry for my "yelling" online, but I had to make a point.
Busy doesnt necessarily mean wasting your life, its being occupied and you can be focused on improving yourself or doing something you love amd that doesntean your busy dat means your living a by being focused on your goal.
I make lists and when I get distracted I go back to my list to find what to do whenever I'm wondering. I bundle laundry and dishes together. I can fill the washing machine, or change them to the dryer, while the dishwasher runs, then fold and put away while the dishwasher is running. I use lists for my business as well. Loads of paper and a dry erase board...
"Whether you already know you're wasting it, because you're a couch potato" ouch 😭 But I am trying to change :) that's why I'm here. Thanks for your videos Thomas! ❤️
"a busy life is a wasted life" i disagree with that statement 100% for all of my twenties i was a depressed, anxious, stoner, and i cannot tell you how mates nights i sat at home by myself, playing guitar or scrolling through youtube videos when inside i was screaming to be doing something with someone, anyone. The days that i truly feel are good days are the ones where i accomplish alot, do something for me, something for my future, see a loved one, and squeeze in moments of calm and quiet. but the calm & quiet moments cant be your whole life.
How much time I spend doing xyz is not nearly as important as how productive I am. On a good day I can be infinitely more productive by sitting in a terrace and thinking about some problem than any other day sitting 8 hours in front of a computer trying to get some inspiration.

Wow. I was aimlessly scrolling TH-cam and I am grateful I came across this!
Thank you Frank for the amazing tips, definitely I need to work on them now!
Thanks Thomas keen to check out Toggle and start tracking my time I find what I measure properly I improve on
Currently wasting time while watching how to not waste time 😂⌚
😂😂😂🐸🐸🐸yeah
😂😂
You're not wasting it. You're learning ;)
Lol
Me wasting time on scrolling all internet
after couple of hours
"How to stop wasting time?"
Another great video! Sort of of topic: what kind of product do you use in your hair? I love the look and it seems to have a great hold.
For some reason you motivated me to wake up at 5am to be productive.
I can't stress enough how toggl helps me in time management. Great video as always!
Hi Tom, Could you please talk about how do you teach your self? I know that you're a content creator and you have 2 other podcasts in addition to this channel. So, it'd be helpful to share your learning style. Thank you
Thank you Thomas! This is exactly what I needed right now.
I think videos over public speaking is the more efficient choice; it's basically the same thing, you can edit, and you can potentially reach far more people and still have income. Perhaps universities and the like just have a wholly subjective taste for traditional classroom-style lecture.
Thank You respectfully
Thanks. This is what I really need right now.
you have here a very big fan of that sample calendar
Manifesting that I will be good at managing myself as well.
Time management can be really hard for me. I tend to get everything I want to get done in a day, but usually not in the order or amount of time I expected. I'll have to try the timer app. It will be interesting to see how long tasks really take me. I do feel motivated when there's a stopwatch going!
How to overcome anxiety during the testing period. . I really need that
I like the turtle and the hare perspective goal myself.
This channel is so underrated
Thank you from Russia
Great stuff. About that last thing-a domain. There is linkedin that does just that. No need to spend time and energy for the domain I reckon.
Thank you so much for yet another helpful video Thomas, just when I needed it ❤
I wan to be part of Pedro’s team! I didn’t know until now that I need Pedro’s House of Cards version!
Thomas you are like Disney, Pixar and Marvel combined with those cameos.
Would like to know more about that 'deep twerk' tho 😂
I had hover as my domain for my shopify website Julies Unique Gifts before I heard you talking about them. Have to agree they're awesome.
I love all your Douglas Adams references throughout your videos.
I'm a great time waster thanks Tom ❤
As always amazing. Its been really long time since I saw you last.
"Yes, it seems that most of us are perpetually rocked by at least a little bit of guilt over the amount of time we spend scrolling through netflix.."
