  • First I replace my daily keyfob that has deteriorated from daily use. Then I troubleshoot and fix my spare keyfob that has been water damaged. This Keyfob was damaged when I mistakenly left my car keys in my pants pocket and put them to wash a full cycle.

    I was recently kayaking in some windy conditions and without knowing, the pouch holding my keys in the kayak was submerged and the water was somewhat salty where it was attached to the ocean. The fob died and I thought it was done for good. After following your video (taking it apart and scrubbing with alcohol using a toothbrush), my fob is working perfectly. Great work my friend!!!

    My Acura keyfob was left in my dungarees and went throgh the wash. It didn't work. I took it apart completely and let it air for two days. Battery was fine. It now works! Was afraid I would have to spend over $400 to replace and re-program it at the Acura dealership.

      Nice yeah water damage isn’t the end-all-be-all for electronics, usually if you let them dry they spring back to life.

      @@PunkNDisorderlyGamer LOL! Before I commented that I sent him a link and asked if it was the video he watched. He said it wasn’t but I remember him complaining about how all the videos he watched didn’t cover everything he needed to do, like moving the key-blade over. His was for a 2013 Volt so the replacement doesn’t have the right icon for opening the charge flap but it totally works. After watching it I see that your video would’ve been exactly what he needed. :)

    I like the idea of removing the panic button to repurposed it. My unlock broke and replacement button is next to impossible to source by itself. Unless you find a junked unit.

      @@davidcalcote233I have to get a new key this unfortunately happened me today. Luckily I have another key that still works. The only problem with the key is that the lock button is screwed it fell into the fob. That’s why I needed a new fob to start with. Anyway my alarm started going off like crazy. It was then I knew I left my key in my coat pocket which I had thrown in the washer. I removed the battery and went in the car and put the key on the ignition and, the alarm stopped. I really need to be more careful from now on.

    Hey , bro . Your new key fob has a nail under the Chevy emblem unlike the original one . Why is that? I believe it's not original , correct ? Well , is there a way to get an identical copy of the original one that has no nail under its emblem ? Thanks .

    • @PunkNDisorderlyGamer
      @PunkNDisorderlyGamer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a screw and it’s definitely not original. I’m not sure where to get original ones. This aftermarket one works well though.

    I have a 2015 Chevy Silverado and the front rubber of the key fob is all ripped up and the alarm button in particular is exposed. I left my keys in my pocket the other day at work and I got all sweaty... (construction) so at the end of the day, I push the button to unlock my truck but nothing happened. I figured the fob got wet and started going off but since my truck was so far away, it wasn’t in range but it still drained the battery. So I go and buy a new battery, install it, and the truck’s alarm automatically goes off and I couldn’t get it to stop. It finally stopped after taking the new battery out again. Will the rubbing alcohol fix this problem?

    • @PunkNDisorderlyGamer
      @PunkNDisorderlyGamer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      J Sagil yes try saturating the key in 99% alcohol and try working the button see if that helps. You definitely seem to be having the same problem as me except your panic is being pressed mine the door lock button was being pressed. If all else fails try to see if you can remove the panic button out of circuit if that help.

    Hey my car fob fell in the drainage and was there for 2.5 hours. It’s not working now. Do you want me to change the batteries ? Or let it dry for couple of days ? Can you explain ?

    • @PunkNDisorderlyGamer
      @PunkNDisorderlyGamer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Take the batteries out and soak the key in 91% or 99% alcohol, then let it dry for a few hours and then try it out with the battery.

    Question: I'm currently having similar problem but with the panic button itself. Do you think I a can just remove it without replacing it or do I have to replace it in order to to complete de serial circuit? Thanks!

    • @PunkNDisorderlyGamer
      @PunkNDisorderlyGamer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If your panic button seems to be repeating then removing the panic all together may actually help. In my case I removed the panic and it didn’t effect the functionality of the other buttons.

    Suggestion. Indicate the title as Chevrolet Camaro and the years specific to the keyfob. Also, a cross reference to other GM models in the title and your views will increase the researchers.
