Implying, of course, that they were calling him _wrong_ because they wanted another team, _any_ other team, to win. He switched from the Red Sox to the Yankees and his "pitching" improved. So, yeah. I don't trust the umpires in the MLB to not play favorites/take bribes/fix games.

Went to an Indianapolis Indianas game a couple weeks ago and the challenge of the pitch call is one of the best things that’s ever happened to baseball. They showed the pitch track and location on the big board to overturn two calls in two separate innings. Fantastic change for baseball. This needs to be brought up to the Big Leagues ASAP.

First pitch was probably a ball. The 2nd pitch was on Herrera. While it is a strike, Herrera started standing early instead of framing the pitch. That’s why the ump called it a ball. The 2 first base calls were both close, but wrong, and replay worked like it should. Marmol was just upset because how poorly the Cards are playing. So far it has worked, as they are playing better. At least for 2 games. Lol

Agreed, that first pitch definitely is out of the projected zone on the screen and didn't look like a strike to me. The middle two calls WERE awful but watching the last play I had the guy out at first as well live although he was clearly shown to be safe on the replay.

As someone who was at this game in the front row of 342, this clears a lot of things up. I was taking a drink and my SO pulled my sleeve and pointed because Marmol was going nuts, seemingly (from our viewpoint) for no reason. From our perspective we had no idea what his beef was to get that mad that fast. Although I did say at the time, it must be the umpires. I can think of 3 pitches for sure were wrong from where I was sitting, plus the two botched calls.
The way I was taught the strike zone as an umpire, it has to be 100% in the zone vertically and only has to clip the zone horizontally so the second pitch was actually called correctly
Marmol is being a tool. They won the challenge and it doesn't help to blame umpires to fire up team. What helps is taking accountability and to keep battling even when things aren't going your way

It's getting harder to recruit officials for every sport because people are so over the top with their criticism, including assault and death threats. We can't afford to lose sight of the face refs are human and make mistakes, or there will be no more sport as there won't be anyone left to officiate them.
