    How long do you let paint dry befor wiping away excess with acetone?

    So I have the same putter. I removed the black finish and I’m wondering (I’m a noob) if what’s left is the bare carbon steel? Or is there some other plating left under the black finish? Thanks

    • @igolf906
      @igolf906  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I believe it's bare carbon steel. Not 100% but I believe it is.

    Skipped the painting part as the putter was way better with the polished chrome look.

    Is the tp mills chrome plated or is it just the black finish?

    • @igolf906
      @igolf906  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'm not even sure what the finish was because it was flaking. Couldn't have been a black oxide. Wasn't chrome as it was black. 🤷‍♂️

    can you use a dremel for buffing and polishing? also can you cold blue a shaft?

    • @igolf906
      @igolf906  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could polish with a dremel. Would take awhile. It won't be good for getting out dents and dings though. And no. Most shafts are chrome or Nickel plated. Bluing will not work on them.

    What type of paints or brand did you use?

    • @igolf906
      @igolf906  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For the paint fill, I just used the standard Testors enamel paints. $1.99 at any hobby type store.

    What kind of oil do you soak it in? And can you reuse that oil over again?

    • @igolf906
      @igolf906  ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't remember off hand what I used on this video, but currently I use diesel oil for everything. And yes, stored in a resealable paint can, it can be reused.

    What did you do to the bent shaft?

    • @igolf906
      @igolf906  ปีที่แล้ว

      Because I was giving this putter to my daughter, I didn't focus too much on trying to fix it as its a very thin shaft. But I used the bend to change the lie angle a little bit. It was very upright so I glued the bend facing down so it had a little more flat of a lie.

  • @danos102
    @danos102 ปีที่แล้ว

    is that just regular paint thinner solvent that you apply after paint fillers?

    • @igolf906
      @igolf906  ปีที่แล้ว

      I use acetone to clean up the paintfill

    I’m actually refinishing the exact same tp mills putter rn with the same exact super blue however the chemical isn’t working at all. I applied the super blue using a cotton swab and also by just pouring it onto the putter however the blue compound isn’t even working. I tried other metals and nothing is turning black. Any thoughts?

    • @igolf906
      @igolf906  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's probably plated metal. It only works on bare carbon steel

      Do the same models of TP mills 3 putters have different types of metal? I’ve completely sanded and grinded off all of the previous finish on the putter and now it is just a steel putter

    • @igolf906
      @igolf906  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Yes it is essentially made for firearm finishing. There's also a Hot blue method out there that's supposed to be more durable but, I've never tried it.

  • @phillipthompson5027

    Has anyone tried jenolite clear coat to protect against rust? Is it worth putting lacquer on after or just accept that you need to oil and love it to stop rust? I am in the middle of a restoration and I want to make sure I don't fuck it up at the last hurdle.

    • @igolf906
      @igolf906  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've recently started toying with Cerakote clear, and have done a raw carbon, Tei3 and turned out nice. But a standard paint will not hold up.

    Where do you get the paint to do the paint fill?

    • @igolf906
      @igolf906  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I got mine at a local Hobby Lobby but, its just standard Testors enamel, used for models and what not. A lot of hardware and hobby stores will have it. Maybe even Walmart?, and some other big box stores.

  • @danc2014

    How did you align the shaft bend?

    • @igolf906
      @igolf906  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It looked almost like a factory bend, so as I forgot to mention it in the video. Before I glued the head back on, I measured the lie angle of the shaft inserted both ways, and one way was WAY too upright, so I swapped the shaft around and its just about perfect.

    What is this tp mills putter made of. And just checking cause the bluing doesn’t work on stainless steel correct? Awesome video!

    • @igolf906
      @igolf906  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These particular putters are made of carbon steel. And yes regular bluing will not work on stainless. As we speak, I am editing another putter restoration that IS stainless steel, and I've found an affordable black patina dye for stainless steel!

    • @igolf906
      @igolf906  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would have to have it powder coated to get a nice glossy coat to it. Regular paints dont do well on putters. So the cold blue and patina style finishes are what works the best for me currently.
