Only 515 Hurst built total in 1968. This is a non a/c cars which had a higher performance motor and rear. Signed by "Doc Watson". He was a GM engineer that made significant contributions to the muscle cars including the creatation of the Hurst Olds. A picture of him by the car will be included.
GM forbade the installation of anything larger than a 400 motor in an intermediate car. The Chevelle was a 396, GTO was a 389, 442 was a 400, GS was a 400. That makes this GMs biggest muscle car engine of all them all in 1968! The way around it was Hurst was to install the 455s at Demmer Engineering. Well that was on paper, the 455s were actually installed by GM then sent to Demmer for a list of upgrades. This one is Demmer #47, shipped 5-29-68 to Collins Oldsmobile Indianapolis.
EXTERIOR: The body fit and finish is outstanding. Laser beam straight, gaps are precise. No rust or damage. They were all Peruvian silver, code ZZ. The black was applied by Hurst and has a white outline. The paint on the car is like glass. Stainless trim is straight, chrome is all shiny. New windshield, original rear window. Side glass lines up real nice. The exhaust exits through the bumper. Correct 14 inch rally wheels with reproduction redline tires. The Hurst Olds emblems sparkle. Tucked under the bumper are the ram air scoops.
INTERIOR: Door panels look new, seats are reupholstered. The dash pad is very nice. It has the rally pac gauges and Tic toc tachometer. It also has an Am-Fm radio. Unique to the Hurst is real walnut trim. This one is signed by Doc Watson. They also come with the deluxe wheel. Down on the floor is the legendary Hurst dual gate shifter in a unique mini console. Excellent carpet, reproduction floor mats. Complete set of original seatbelts. The headliner looks great with just 1 small tear. It has original Oldsmobile vanity mirror on the visor.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: #s match vin on the block. They used the big 455 used in the Toronados and added some hot rod upgrades. They made an impressive 390 hp and 500 lbs of torque! The non a/c cars have D heads with big valves. 2 big air ducts force fresh air into the dual snorkel air cleaner. The motor is stock and is painted nicely. It features power steering and power brakes. Wiper motor looks new, washer bottle is hooked up. They all had the red inner fenders
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Very clean, solid metal has been spatter painted. Under the trunk lid and the jamb are painted glossy. It has a 5th matching rally wheel for a spare with a polyglass tire. It has a mat, trunk light, like new weatherstrip, no jack.
UNDERSIDE: Appears to be very solid. Original untouched metal floors, braces and rockers. Dual exhaust with correct mufflers and the trumpet tips going out through the back bumper. It also features the F41 suspension which includes boxed control arms, front and rear sway bars. Shocks, springs, ball joints, swaybar bushings were replaced. Disc brakes in front, e-brake assembly is hooked up. Looking up at the motor it's spotless, starter looks fresh. It has a flywheel cover. Correct OW 1968 Turbo 400 automatic. 12 bolt rear with 3.91 posi gears.
A performance company built a limited number of performance cars with engines that exceeded GMs limits. Sounds a lot like another super car called a Yenko. I honestly believe these cars have not hit their investment potential yet. It has all the ingredients for a solid investment!
I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my professional impression of the vehicle.
Our salesmen are happy to assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video that explains the car's condition in detail.
**These cars are displayed in a museum. If interested in a particular car make an appointment with a salesman to see that car. Without an appointment there is an admission fee to enter the showroom. If you buy a car, your admission will be refunded and you will be given a 1 year membership.

You are correct in the fact that Oldsmobile and Hurst Performance collectively produced 515 Hurst/Olds cars in 1968. Jack "Doc"Watson was not a General Motors or Oldsmobile engineer, however he did work for Hurst and help promote the cars with period magazines. The engines were based on the 4-4-2 400 engine components mated with Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight 455 engines, not Toronado 455's. The non air conditioned W-45 as featured here developed 390 horsepower fitted with 400370, D casting cylinder heads with improved intake port design and partially blocked exhaust heat crossover ports (#3 and #6). The W-45 also were equipped with the hotter 308 degree, .474 lift and 88 degree of overlap camshaft as used in the 1968 W-31 Ram Rod 350 cars. The W-45 also used the 7028255 W-31 Quadra-Jet carburetor. All the 1968 Hurst/Olds cars were based on the 4400 series 4-4-2 platform, with 451 of the 4487 body style, and 64 of the 4477 Two door post sport coupe body style. Finally, the W-46 455 engine was more closely related to the Ninety-Eight with It's 7028251 carburetor, with the Police use 1111469 distributor and 400165 camshaft and larger intake and exhaust valves. Both versions used the W-30/W-31 Outside So Induction system 4-4-2 notched valve covers, and dual exhaust manifolds.

What an amazing car. Thanks for telling a bit of the Hurst Olds story. I have been around old cars for a long time but I've never really known any Oldsmobile gear heads. A few Pontiac, Chevy, Ford, and Mopar nuts, but never really knew much about Oldsmobile or even Buick muscle of the time. I love how your turntable highlights exactly how much room Olds left in those flared fenders to install much beefier rear tires to get that shifter working hard to burn any upgraded rubber on the back. You could easily go 2 inches wider than those stock rims.
Another amazing car Volo Team. Cheers!

Your description of available motors in GM cars in 1968 is incorrect. The 1968 GTO had a 400, and the 1968 Firebird 400 had a 400 engine, and the GTO was rated at 350 HP for the standard 400 engine.

I had the same car but a 2dr posted sedan version. Traction was always a problem. I bought the car for $3000 in 1985 to restore and flip it. I sold it in 1989 for $13,000. My profit was roughly $3000.

Early to mid 80's went to check on a turbocharger for sale in the local paper. Looking at the turbo, there was a car under a cover in the garage. Asked him what it was, he said it was a Hurst/Olds. He took the cover off and it was a 1968 H/O...mint condition. Claimed it was the only '68 H/O with white interior, made for a California executive. The turbo was huge...like made for a boat or something...said he was going to put it on the Hurst. 😳
